Process for HP Review
Can someone offer the proper procedure to request a horsepower review for an existing Stock Eliminator engine combination?
Who should be the contact? Send email or certified hard copy? Followup suggestions? Appreciate everyone's help gcasey |

Re: Process for HP Review
It is now a pop up form on the NHRA site, Fill in the engine /combo data and press submitt. No longer need to tell a story or give reasons why. The ets for the combo are researched and a determination is made relative to 5 tenths uner the index. Then and adjustment is made, up, down - or not.

Re: Process for HP Review
It looks like you must have a nhra number and raced to have a say. A 3 hp hit back in the day took me on a long trip to keep my car competive, putting it in a class that I do not think anybody could get to the min weight, but that's my problem. Just taking off 1 hp off my combo would make me happy, making me be able to run two classes in regular SS. GT was not a problem and has a lower hp rating but still had a 3 hp by the same person back in the day. Tom

Re: Process for HP Review
I think you will find that you need to be currently running the combo so that they have some real world documentation that there is a problem. Their theory is that they don't want to be inundated with requests for theoretical combinations. Not saying this is fair or not, just the way it is.

Re: Process for HP Review
For next year, requests had to be in by Nov. 12th. Anything submitted now will not be looked at until the 2nd half next year. Dyno

Tom,
Unfortunately the cutoff for the 2013 second half review was Tuesday November 12th. With that said I have added your request to the 2014 first half review file. Pat Cvengros Pacific Division Technical Director I guess you just have to have a number. Tom ( |

Re: Process for HP Review
After reading this thread and NHRA's procedure, I take it that the person requesting the change must have entered and raced the combo at least once at a national or divisional event ??
And...that the combo must not have made any passes any quicker than .6 seconds under the index ? Am I correct ? I know the national opens do not have the ahfs in place, so if a racer ran a combo ( that he wants a hp change on) at a National Open, it would not help him because those runs would not be included in the review process ? |
Re: Process for HP Review
Reread the AHFS rules. No review if combo goes one run -.85 under or two runs of -.65 under. Runs -.10 don't count, fastest run is used to raise or lower hp.
The system works, you have to read and understand the rules, its not easy but it works. Like Smokey said " I can read 'em to y'a but........." |

So If a racer wanted a reduction in h.p. he needs to make all his runs (with that particular combo) in the .110-.150 under range ? |
Re: Process for HP Review
Reread.
.101 to .165 under for 2.25% reduction and so forth. If there is a lot of your type cars running, I would also recommend reading a couple of books on herding of cats! The system works both ways, trust me on this. The only way it works is in the framework of the rules as written. As they say, "Almost correct is still wrong" |
