nice write up. Any word on price and weight with the different combos. The eco boost engine, is that the same one they are using in the Daytona Prototype race cars?

Ford Racing will have the 2015 Mustang in our PRI booth. This will be the first time the general public will get to see the car as all the festivities today were press reveals.

AND we will have "the King" Richard Petty on hand to sign some autographs and help us unveil the car alongside chief program engineer Dave Pericak.

I can tell you that Dave is one of the most passionate car guys I've ever seen leading a vehicle development team. It's definitely worth hearing him talk about the car, he knows every bolt!

Reveal will be 11am in the Ford Racing booth next Thursday.

Hope to see you there!

The Daytona Prototypes will be using the 3.5L V6 Eco Boost engine and 2015 Mustang is a 2.3L inline four.

Was said to be 200lbs lighter than the S197 models; hopefully this is factual. Nothing better than free HP

Aluminum fenders help the cause.

I wouldn't kick the turbo out of my garage....since I seem to have a thing for quirky turbo cars. Would be a nice stable....64 Corvair Turbo...13 Veloster Turbo...15 Mustang Turbo. (oh and a little orange 73 BMW) Might need a bigger garage.

2015 Mustang Eco boost 2.3L :

Can we get that submitted to NHRA for inclusion into the classification guide ?

Maybe start with a factor of about 185 h.p. ? :D

Sorry....that's all I have on my mind. lol

I forgot we also have a 82 Volkswagen Caddy LX Turbo Diesel...its the farm "run for stuff" truck. But she sleeps in the barn, not the garage.

Good point,Evan... or maybe a mini Torino?

I don't know who would ever race a 4 cylinder turbo..lol...but I don't imagine that will be the combo submitted by Ford for 2015..
You know, the one it comes with?

Probably not ...but it would be nice to see a new Ford VIN car in the guide again.
It's been awhile.

If that 2.3 EB Mustand ever does make it into the classification guide, I would imagine it would be a K or L combo.

Here is the "progression" video Livernois made of their 2015 EB Mustang.
11.81 @ 114.

I believe those cars are capable of a 10.99 when a Stock Eliminator racer gets done building it to Stock rules and it is in it's lightest class.

So if this car is able to run that fast in stock, will it need a rollbar. NHRA bracket racing tech rules allow a 2008 or newer stock engine car with no external modifications to run as fast as 10.00 without a roll bar.

I have no doubt it will need a rollbar for Stock Eliminator. ( if it ever is listed in the guide)

As per NHRA rules, every " M " Stock class car and quicker requires a rollbar.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who saw the Livernois video and thought it would make a very interesting Stocker!

The 2.3L EcoBoost motor is factory rated at 310hp which would put it somewhere in the F/S-G/S range. Even then, the Livernois car is already close to the index!

Ford spec weight for the Ecoboost fastback automatic is 3524 lbs. If the 2.3L turbo 4 were to go into the guide and NHRA follows their usual way of starting with the NHRA HP = Factory HP then the weight break is 11.37, or a natural G with a 12.0 index, so it is already under that with the Livernois setup.

Wonder if the IRS in the new Mustang uses the same ring and pinion as the Ford 8.8? If it is a completely new differential it's going to be tough to get a serious drag race ratio for it.

rawhide 01-03-2015 01:32 PM

Re: 2015 Mustang Revealed

Ford Racing shows a different part number for the 2015 gears. The only ratio's that they show at this time is 3.55 and 3.73. Neither is available as of this time and my back order list shows an available date of 1-15-15.
The following is their description:

  • Fits 2015 Mustang GT 8.8-inch IRS center section
  • Requires M-4210-B3 2015 Mustang GT 8.8-inch ring-gear and pinion install kit
  • Made in United States in Ford's Sterling Axle Plant
  • OEM Quality - our superior surface finish, hardening and manufacturing consistency provide the strongest and quietest gears in the market.

It's the 8.8 irs same as the explorer or navigator or whichever one uses it. Regardless, wouldn't it be the same as swapping out the irs on the vette? The 2.3eco is one thing, what happens when somebody runs a coyote or the new 5.2 in the gt-350? That 5.2 is readlined at 8000 from the factory! Flat crank, forged everything, blah, blah, blah...I'm guessing dropping the clutch at 7K with slicks should throw u-joints quite far!

edit: Something else I noticed on the video, notice how it sucks the rear down as he's torquing it up? Modifying angles for straightline only should really improve an already awesome package.

Ford Racing is already working on the solid axle conversion.
I didn't keep the link, but a little while back I saw where they were working on a kit.

Good choice on the trans Fred.

I like those wheels better than the "blacked out" versions.
