Is this allowed NHRA Stock????
I am working on a new car for Stock, and was wandering if I can take my 90 Mustang 2.3 auto daily driver and enter the first, or maybe the first two divisional races to get my grade points, and entry points? My new car should be ready sometime in April, but hate to miss the start of the season since the races are close to home. i really dont think the daily driver can run the index, actually doubt it will be within 2 seconds of the index, but still, thinking it would at least be fun.

Re: Is this allowed NHRA Stock????
Interesting.
I would think if the car meets the requirements for your class in Stock, and your dial in on the first round of the race is the class index , I couldn't see why it would not work. Just make sure it has all the required mods ( i.e. driveshaft loop, helmet, etc.) copy-n-paste from the rulebook: DRIVELINE Aluminum driveshaft prohibited except OEM. Carbon fiber driveshaft prohibited. Driveline loop mandatory in all rear-wheeldrive cars. See General Regulations 2:4. |
Re: Is this allowed NHRA Stock????
Just be sure to meet all the safety regs.

Re: Is this allowed NHRA Stock????
i believe that if the car is still in 100% street legal form, as in catalitic converters still being used, where you have to use unleaded fuel, i do not think any unleaded fuel will pass fuel check, not sure if you have to pass tech or actually make a legitimate qualifying run to earn any points, Dave Ley a little help here thanks

Re: Is this allowed NHRA Stock????
This depends on what division and who's the director at the time.
Some you have to qualify and get on the ladder.. Some you just pay the tab. You'd think it would be a uniform procedure, but it may still not be.. First hand experience... |
Re: Is this allowed NHRA Stock????
You only need one grade point to enter just about any National Event (exceptions would be limited to D1 and possibly Norwalk or Chicago) so are you just trying to get a grade point for the Gators?

C-9 unlead will pass. We use it in Penny's car.

Re: Is this allowed NHRA Stock????
In Div 2 in the past. You just have to get thru tech. I did it a few years ago with my PT Cruiser. Failed fuel check but got the grade point.
Call the division office and see if that has changed. |

be glad to accept and keep your money.....in exchange for a grade point. |
Re: Is this allowed NHRA Stock????
Several years back I forget who, but someone only needed to show up at Pomona to win the championship and did so with some sub-compact rental front wheel drive in stock. and it seems it didn't do badly qualifying either with a soft index for the little four banger.

Re: Is this allowed NHRA Stock????
Thanks guys, I will check with the div. office to make sure. I am not worried about the Gartors this year, but we are making the transition from heads up racing to Stock or Super Stock. We have one car almost done that will easily fit in GT/JA, and my project stocker is coming along nicely. My 18yo son will more than likely do the driving till both cars are done, and he has not been on the track since mid last year when we lost the motor in his N/A 10.5 NMCA car.

Re: Is this allowed NHRA Stock????
As of last year here in D2 you could show up to tech to get your grade point, then go home.
As long as you paid your entry fee & passed, you could race or just load & leave. -Karen I just confirmed with the boss man....Car must be on site to purchase a tech card, car must pass tech. After that do what you please! Just make sure all safety gear is up to date, helmet etc....present with the car. |
Re: Is this allowed NHRA Stock????
C10 will pass

Re: Is this allowed NHRA Stock????
Thanks again, I called the division tech director and he explained to me what we had to do to actually race, or we can simply enter, go through tech and be good. We are thinking about trying to race at least first round. We are going to make a pas with the car this weekend to see how far off the index we will be, spoke to a friend who has almost the identical car and he told me his was faster than we thought. As long as we have fun I dont really care, as the new car is coming along nice and he will run a few races with it before moving up to the Comp car....

Re: Is this allowed NHRA Stock????
I was in the same boat once. In 2009 I entered my 95 Camaro daily driver, had to have the class and car number on it. Was told not to make a pass as I would not pass fuel check. This was in Div. 3. I would double check with your Div. director though.

Re: Is this allowed NHRA Stock????
Used to be in Div 5 you could tech somebody eles car as long as you did not race it. again check with you div person and make sure the guys in tech are on the same page. Why would not take some ones money for no where a tear on anything, just take the tech card and money. But then again you can't fix stupid. Tom

Re: Is this allowed NHRA Stock????
When we first got the MegaManiac I drove it in Altanta, and Drooze drove my Pacifica (while listening to my Neil Diamond CD for the whole 23 second run) and we both got our grade points that day. That was in 2010.

Just wondering here cause I dont know for sure. But do front wheel drive cars have to have driveshaft loops. And I think as long as the stud is threaded into the nut the width of the stud (IE 1/2 inch diameter stud has to be threaded 1/2 inch into the lug nut) you would be OK. So a front wheel drive rental maybe would work if its in the guide???? |
