"Not Live From" Orlando, NHRA Lucas Oil Series

I'm not at Orlando, but I do have racers sending photos and info. The weather is in the mid 70's and testing starts around one. There are about a 100 rigs park today. I will pass along any info I get for this weekends Div 2 race.

We have been getting rain over here on the West Coast of Florida since 5PM...

Re: "Not Live From" Orlando, NHRA Lucas Oil Series

There were 50 cars testing today, half were stock and super stockers. The weather was in the 70's with high humidity and barometer in 29.90's.

I hope to get some more photos for tomorrow and info. The Jeff Velde T-Bolt is a work of art, the photos do it little justice.

Ken Thanks for the updates and the pics sure makes it easier to deal with the snow here in ohio.

Ken, I'm not sure who told you it was 70 here today but I never saw it higher than 62. Altitude varied between 570ft and 1100ft. Humidity was 68 to 86% . 30% chance of rain tomorrow but it should be quick. The track is better than I have ever seen here. Jim

On top of that it was a cold 62. On the track comment, you can tell Wade is in the house.

Was that Velde Ford car originally from central IL? The Velde family had a few dealerships up here.

Yes, Well we are from Pekin, IL, that's where my grandfather started the Dealerships at. They are actually owned now by his long time partner and his sons. The Thunderbolt my uncle built at his Ford store in Vero Beach, FL.

I guess fixing the pits wasn't high on the list of "to-do's"....although I heard that they did a great job with the track finish....good luck to everyone this weekend

Well the race is called for the day. The schedule now is tomorrow 9am with two shots and then at least one round of eliminations. Tech will remain open today until 5pm. More to come! Jim

Re: "Not Live From" Orlando, NHRA Lucas Oil Series

Has rained off and on most of the day. As soon as the crew gets out and starts drying the track it rains again. Lots of time to socialize and bench race though! After talking to Rich, the D2 Director the plan seems to be one hit in the AM and go right into eliminations trying to get it all done. If if just can't be finished, it will be completed at Valdosta. I met and talked to Keith Fulp with KFM. Great fella and he is making the tethers right on the spot for racers. The guys from Header Tethers Inc. are here also but I haven't gotten over there yet, Tech has been tossing everyone without the tethers but so far haven't enforced the etching on all pieces of the units. I already had mine and informed them I had my receipt but they didn't care to see it. They are pretty much taking your word on who the manufacturer is. Very fair I think. More later. Jim

How are they checking welds for those that welded versus use tethers? I welded my collectors by the requirements.

Jim Wahl 02-08-2014 10:12 PM

Re: "Not Live From" Orlando, NHRA Lucas Oil Series

Cooter, I never really saw any of the tech officials get down and look at any of that. As I said before, they asked you if you had tethers and what brand they were. I'm guessing they took your work on it if you said you had your tubes welded. Jim

How many collectors did the tethers keep from falling off?

Re: "Not Live From" Orlando, NHRA Lucas Oil Series

I am on as tight as budget as anyone. i tthought the tether rule was bogus. On the first race of the season I lost a collector, the tether system dosnt matter which one could have prevented it. I dont want to weld my collectors on because they remove alot easier with the long collector off.

The Velde Thunderbolt looks beautiful. I do have a question though. I do not remember Thunderbolts having a lift-off hood. Does tech allow it if the hinges are still in place, just not bolted to the hood?

I would have thought that as well Stephen but here's a "real" T-Bolt and it's hinged!

Both ran 10.13 in the final. Harrington driving the Platt&Payne Cobra Jet. Atkinson driving the beautiful '69 Camaro.

SS was Cahelee (SS/HA Camaro) over Mike Crutchfield. 10.13 to an 8.79.

Which car is a "clone" and what is your point? The question was if lift off hoods were original which it appears they were not but according "reliable sources" they are allowed. I'm thinking in S/S only though.
