live coverage?
Why can't Nhra do eliminations live on tv? Perhaps ESPN doesnt like the idea, but somebody like MavTv would. The show on sunday is what 4-430 hours which is what a Nascar race takes or a football game so why not. Eliminate all sportsmen classes to 16 and run everybdoy as a field on sunday. Maybe cut between rounds to 80 minutes instead of 90. The thought of watching stock/super stock on the big screen with the surround sound on makes me smile. Some good announcers explaining what is happening will bring new sponsors and more money for everyone.

Re: live coverage?
If they did that they wouldn't have time to do all their interviews with the pros. Not to mention the 3 to 4 trips they usually make down to the Force circus.
|
Re: live coverage?
You could always split the screen like indy or soccer does for commercials. Figure away to get fuel back to quarter mile also.
|
Re: live coverage?
Never happen. All they would need is a couple of the fuel cars to explode. Drag racing doesn't have a caution flag to allow the racing to continue while they clean up. They tried a few races running the semis live. That almost killed them to be ready in time.
Just too much uncertainty. Dan |
Re: live coverage?
Look perhaps they need to adjust the fuel cars as far as power. If you take say a fuel pump and a magneto that would make it cheaper and less explosive. Think the racers would adjust....help me out here.

Re: live coverage?
Skills, You can watch NHRA. national events live on the internet on ESPN 3,if you have the right internet service? they don`t talk much when the sportsman car`s run. Tom

Re: live coverage?
Skills,
1 - The Sunday action is 5 to 5 1/2 hours, not 4 to 4 1/2 2 - Rounds are already at 75 minutes, not 90 mnutes 3 - The sportsman fields are already cut down to 4 cars or less before Sunday so there would be no sportsman action to show except for semis and finals. |

Can I ask, what is this Chromecast device? Where do you get them?
|
Re: live coverage?
Ed,
You can get one at the Best Buy at Tulsa Hills. They appear to be on sale for $29.99 Bill |
Re: live coverage?
Cool! Thanks Bill!

Re: live coverage?
There is a little delay but, I usually put on ESPN3 and NHRA Live Timing on on the side bar. You can see the cars go down the track then Live Timing is delayed about 10 seconds but, you know who is who and who is racing. I think it's the best we will ever get to live timing.

Re: live coverage?
The thought of seeing live coverage of any NHRA National Event on Espn2 is long gone. NHRA continues to pay Espn for its coverage of the Nationals Events just like back in the early days of Diamond P and NBC/ABC broadcasting. The problem goes back to TV ratings being low, and lacking variety. Pro Stock has always seen the short end of the stick when it comes to overall broadcast time which lead to Pro Stock Truck even going back to a class in Competition Eliminator. We need more people to write/ email the NHRA and Espn if you ever want to see any changes in the way NHRA National Events are broadcasted.

Re: live coverage?
People are missing the point, I understand what we have right now. I was talking about how to improve our coverage. I am not a racer so I dont have a horse in the race. If 5-530 hours isnt long you could alway work around the commercials. Maybe, have sponsors buy blocks of time. Fix the fuel classes to speed things up a little so we can fit 16 in sunday for all the classes. Give me a break in Pa where its cold and snowy.

Re: live coverage?
Here is the real point. Because you are not a racer, you are talking about things that most of us have tried to deal with for many years. They used to show the final rounds of all sportsman classes during the Pro televised sessions. Not any more. Now it's just the finals during the Alcohol television series.
Here is another point, if you aren't a racer, why are you on this site? Just sayin' Dan |

Re: live coverage?
Live timing will always be delayed so that a racer can't have someone watch the computer and relay information to them about their race to get an advantage. Just keeping thing fair.

I am talking about the live AUDIOCAST that does not sync up with the live ESPN3 video coverage. (at least for me it doesn't,slight delay) |

Re: live coverage?
So, if I go buy this Chromecast thing, we will be able to watch our Stock and SS friends Bob Cruzen and Mike & Paula Cotten at Pheonix this weekend, on our TV?
Sorry if I'm not real clear about this. I'm old. I have zero interest in watching the pros since Mike Edwards quit. |
Re: live coverage?
Ed, do you know if your internet server provides espy 3? Mine used to, now it doesn't. Tom
|
Re: live coverage?
Tom, we have Cox Cable, only two ESPNs.
|
Re: live coverage?
Ed - ESPN3 is online
|
Re: live coverage?
Yeah, I was wondering if we could watch S & SS on it. Not just the pros. I've never watched in on a computer. Only heard about it recently.

Re: live coverage?
So your point is because I dont race then I shouldnt care about class racing? I brought this up, because I am a customer of Nhra and most importantly enjoy watching as much racing as possible. When I attended Etown from Friday-Sunday I am there before the first run and dont leave till the last. This question was to improve the racing coverage which will bring more fans and sponsors. If you have live racing on people like Fletcher have an easier time getting sponsors to race.

Dan[/QUOTE] We should be welcoming everyone to this site getting more people interested is our future. |

Re: live coverage?
I like the idea and more so the poss. if what could be . Ya we could send e-mails . But before "we" do that, lets talk about the kinda show we could put on (everyone likes the on track coverage , thats top shelf ) , we can air ( add in some colorful pit or stage lane stuff by the wright interviewer ! ) And what kind of adds , could suport a live race on some TV channel .There are some of the most creative and entertaining people at the races and on this web sight that just might have enough ideas to pull this off for a season or 2 . If you ever watch pass time you now know this is do able . Now lets kick some humorous ideas around and ways it could be pitched to sponsors .......Who gets the vote for the report in the pits/lanes ? And who gets the vote for annoucing the on track racing/action.

Go to espn3.com and try to watch something, anything. If it works then great. If not, your Internet provider is not partnered up with them. If it works, you may be able to use the Chromecast device to watch it on your TV but there are things to be aware of in order for it to work. |
Re: live coverage?
Thanks Ricki. I'll try that first. If I can get it, we will buy the Chromecats device. Rather watch them on our 70" TV than a computer monitor. We are old & blind. LOL

Re: live coverage?
Maybe I can shed some light on watching ESPN3 live or NHRA live on flat screen. First try your computer or lap top to see if you can watch. If it works on the computer, most flat screen TVs have an HMI port just like the computer. Hook up the HMI cable and set the TV. Done. Watch every car and every clean up.

Re: live coverage?
Wow! Thanks Chris! Need to look into that.

Agreed! The more interested the better. Without fans (and possibly a new racer) there won't be drag racing, especially class racing. Without ticket sales to spectators, who pay the bottom line, is there National/Divisional Event racing? Still recall the Chicago event where the NHRA announcer told the fans to leave the stands and go see the pros in the pits when class cars began rolling out from under the tower. |
