Live From South Georgia Motorsports Park

Loaded up the car Saturday and moved the trailer close to the shop to load the small stuff. The weather did not look good, freezing rain, my favorite. We were going to leave early Sunday morning to miss the storm, but when the forecast changed to 1/2'' of ice we elected to stay and make sure our home was going to be OK. The last time we got 1/2" ice the Weather Channel guy was here in Paducah Ky. and we were without utility power for 11 days. If the Weather Channel people are anywhere close to where you live, you are screwed. We ran on generator power that used 45 gal of diesel a day during the power outage.

Sunday we got 1/4" freezing rain, then two to three inches of sleet. Sleet is way better than freezing rain. Today its snowing two + inches so far and still falling. Its a cold 13* feels like temp. of -4*. Looking out the window everything is white and that does not look good for us going to Georgia.

I looked at the long range weather forecast for Valdosta. Looks like highs in the 70s and lows in the mid 40s for the weekend. Might be some rain on Thursday.
My rig is all loaded up in Tampa, I am in south Miami. Leaving Miami driving the toter to tampa. Pick up the trailer then off to Valdosta. Then a week of vacation at the Gators. Cant wait.

Looking out towards the road (where the mailbox is). Normally we don't like to see Dan Fletcher in the other lane, but it would be nice to see him coming down our lane with his snow plow about now!

Our dogs love the snow!

Little Japanese maple looks sad with ice and snow!

This is our truck mounted generator (100 kw) on standby in case the power goes out!

Stacker loaded with race car, but still needs all the other stuff loaded!

Re: Live From South Georgia Motorsports Park

Well Larry got the little runaround car dug out and I finished up putting everything away in the motorhome. Our plan right now is to try and leave here on Wednesday. The US Hwy has been plowed, but we have 3 miles to get to the main highway. We ended up with about 6 inches of ice, sleet and snow. 4 wheel drive vehicles can get in and out and that is about all. It is supposed to be up to 34 degrees tomorrow, after a low of 6 tonight. Then on Wed, it is to get up to 43. Hopefully the roads will get plowed or I am afraid our motorhome and stacker won't make it up and down these hills with all the slick stuff under the snow to contend with.

So hopefully we will be "Live" from warmer weather by Thurs.

Ya'll feel free to post on here and let us know how things are down there in the South!

Dyno Dan Zrust called this morning after he had driven 700 miles from Minnesota yesterday. He had just crossed into Kentucky and wanted to know if the state owned a snow plow! LOL

He is on his way!

Just from what I'm seeing forecasted I hope this won't be a repeat of what I just experienced last Monday during the conclusion of the Lights Out Race. Rain for two days, then the Sun comes out, with water coming up past the 1000' mark, and we were only racing to the 1/8th that weekend. On top of that all the tore up grass I saw when I left. But hey, Sunny and in the 70's Saturday and Sunday, great socializing weather.

Had a first in almost 64 years of life, I had to remove icicles from the car so the straps would go on the car to tie it down. The first three miles will be the test. We hope to be on the road by 10 A.M.

SO It's Dan's fault I stood in freezing temps with sleet and caught ONE bead yesterday in New Orleans. He is dragging the Zrust Polar Vortex south with him. See ya'll at Belle Rose for Tim's Chootout. Be careful.

Well we are sitting in the driveway ready to pull out, but we are blocked in. A low boy showed up here this morning to pick up a piece of equipment we had sold. After having to be pushed out of the driveway after he got stuck, he is now at the end of the road stuck again. Maybe it is like my daughter in law said, "It's a sign". Maybe we aren't suppose to go on this trip! Right now we still plan to leave if he moves in the next hour or two.

They are on their way.

Damn near crashed twice in the first 4 miles from the house with ice, snow, and ditches. I was following them and saw the complete side of the trailer twice. Really thought they were going into the ditch and rolling the rig.

We are rolling early. Probably be in the rain all day. Mardi Gras in Houma was wet, but not to be outdone my wife (who will be 70 on Friday) and I dawned rain suits and chased the floats. Must have caught two or three pickup loads. Kevin, wife, and little girl caught that much also. Now talking my way out of me being in Valdosta on her birthday shows what a real used car guy I am. Hope to be there before 5 pm. Somebody have the beverages ready, however we have some cold for a couple days now.

Re: Live From South Georgia Motorsports Park

Good morning from Forsythe, Ga. We got to the Walmart here about 11:30 last night. We finally got away from the house about 1:30 and as Chris said the first 3 miles were killer! Quarter inch of ice, 3 inches of sleet and 3 inches of snow was not fun to get thru! But we made it! There was snow on the sides of the interstate, but the roads were clear once we made it to 4 lanes. Going down towards Nashville, there was lots of ice on the trees and broken limbs. Then our untimely leaving put us in Nashville at rush hour. So we lost another hour in stop and go traffic. Boy, am I glad we no longer live there! I don't know if I could deal with that traffic on a daily basis again.

So now we are on the road again. Should arrive at the track about 11. More posts when we get there. If anybody reads this that is already there, please post which gate we are supposed to come in today. It is not raining on us now, but the forecast for Valdosta is rain all day. Is it raining there yet?

Larry,
We got in at 9:15 last night and missed early parking by a few minutes. We were first in line in stacking and just got in to park at 10:10. They are stacking everyone inside the south gate and then taking groups to park. They are attempting to get everyone on asphalt as it is a mosh pit everywhere else, we have had at least 2 inches of rain this morning and it is still raining at a good clip..

Our first time to SGMP and it looks like a really nice place. hope to see you and Patsy after the rain stops.

Here is a shot of the rained soaked pits sent to me, although its raining I still wish I was there. I wont be making the trip south for this race and Gainesville.

Patsy, I'm glad to here you were able to get away from the bad weather. Looking forward to the reports, Saturday and Sunday look great with temps in the mid 70's.

Any info I get, I will be sure to pass it on.

Glad y'all made it to the south. Glad it was a mostly uneventful trip. Hoped to see you this weekend at SGMP but grandchildren take precedent. Definitely planning on being in Gainesville for Thursday and Friday and will try and find y'all. Maybe get somemore wheels up like from Charlotte last September, just not quite that high.

No it is not a "Warm" rain. LOL

We have been over to Teuton's for an adult beverage this evening. We are all hoping tomorrow will be better! 70's by the weekend!!

I will try to get some pics tomorrow after people unload their cars!

Everyone is parked on the pavement so far. I don't know how many spaces are still left, because it is bad if you are not on pavement.

I haven't heard anything about if they will run the Ultimate Shootout this weekend or not.

Good morning from a rain-free racetrack! Finally!! It is still very cloudy and cool. 42 this morning, going up to 58 this afternoon if the sun comes out. We were supposed to being running about now, but the only announcement we have heard has been that they are still trying to park the overnight arrivers. I think they have run out of paved areas and said something about waiting for the grass areas to dry some.

I will let you know when I hear something about the schedule.

There was a post on Facebook last night on the division 2 Facebook page that said they hoped to be able to have cars on the track early afternoon. The shoot out was still up in the air.

Which dries faster, grass or paint?

The weather has certainly been trying. We're holding a 3-day big money bracket race at VMP next weekend, and have been keeping an eye on the forecast to development contingency plans if necessary. Rain/snow/cold are no good for anyone. Wish you all the best of luck this weekend, and stay safe!

Is the snow going to be gone in time for the Class Nationals race? We still have over 5 feet on the ground.

The only snow left here in Columbus is wherever it was piled up from plowing. We've got grass. This area really hasn't seen anything like they did up north, or well to our east. Just been cold off and on. May should be perfect!

Of course, I'll be singing a different tune come June when it's 105+ outside.

I'll have to find a place to test before it is race ready. Hopefully by mid to late April.
