L/CM combo is under rated for sure, I run the aluminum head version of it in I/CM, and
it is factored @ 285HP. The heads flow within 10-15 cfm. How it runs that fast?...( yes , I have been breaking my ***** on this combo).

Thought it was -1.15 under for 1/8th and -1.40 under for 1/4.... some people have been hit for -1.15 under in the 1/8th, while some were not. Don't care what the rule is one way or the other, would just like to see it published somewhere and adhered to.

Bottom of the list in 2000 shows a reduction to 250hp for iron GT 40 heads and 265hp for Alum. heads. Not sure if they are even on the list now. We are considering running the 250 hp motor with the good heads.

Page 103 in the 2014 IHRA rule book, shows -1.40 1/4 and -1.15 in the 1/8th during qualifing is automatic hp. I use to put that to the test and go -1.39 under in qualifing and -1.45 under in eliminations. By the book, i never got hp. Wheres the sheets for this past weekend?

That is a FAST L/CM! We have run a 1972 Maverick in L/CM using the 302/215 @240 and the 302/270 @250 both great combos only difference is camshaft both use the GT40 P (Explorer, Mountaineer) heads. A little horsepower adjust will not hurt.

I guess now we will have to wait and see! So, as it is written, you can only receive hp from qualifying runs?

It doesn't matter if everybody is fast. The way the rules are written you go too fast you get HP. end of story.

Sterling, i wish they would take the weather into consideration but they wont. Atleast they didnt when they gave me the last 10 hp a few years ago at Rockinham when it was 1200 ft below. I could use that 10 back, if they factor the weather into it. Still good run!

I run the (regular)GT40 heads on my car. 255HP. w/.480 lift cam.
I'm not sure what's on/in Bianchi's.

You have to take that into consideration when it's fast. Need to slow your car down when it's like that.

Some of us never see those conditions.

He is running the 270/250 combo with the gt40p heads. That is the same combo I had in my 95 Mustang in M/CM, the same car that Amanda Justice ran in L/CM. He should have been giving HP last year, he went 6.99 at the first race in Florida last year. That is the best Ford combo on the list. I went a best of 7.10 in the eighth before I sold the car and a 11.31 at Rockingham five years ago. I know IHRA adjusted some combos last year but did not on some that when under. All under runs should be adjusted.

From the 2014 IHRA online rule book

http://www.bluetoad.com/publication/?i=186944&p=105

"competition vehicle MAY have an increase in its horsepower rating"

Nothing set in stone here......

It doesn't help to lift at the 1000ft when you're running 1/8 mile!

1/8th mile is a lot of fun. Not much time for games. You see more all out runs. I actually prefer running 1/8th mile. Its much easier on your equipment. Everyone has there preferences.

Mike, I've tried it. Found it boring. It is easier to drive the finish line at lower speeds. Pretty much always went rounds. Just did not like it. I would stay home first.

KennyAnderson 03-04-2014 04:37 PM

Re: HP adjustments after Carolina?

Ed I'm gonna disagree with you there brother. While I too prefer 1/4 mile, most of what we have down here is 1/8th and I enjoy it for the challenge of driving the stripe. Speed has VERY little to do with driving the stripe. Closing rate is EVERYTHING. In the eigth you have very little time to get a look at whats going to happen, make a decision, and execute. Personally I feel like I have FOREVER to make a decision when running 1/4 after running 1/8th for many years.

PS; Chip is good. Picked up a lil over the -2 chip that was in it but it seems waayyy more consistent.

Michael Beard 03-04-2014 04:51 PM

Re: HP adjustments after Carolina?

Actually, speed has a lot to do with it, just *different* from closing rate. The faster you're going, the more distance per time you cover. Top Dragsters taking .001 at 190 mph is a few inches. A Jr. Dragster taking .001 at 70 mph is much tighter!

I've raced a few 1000' events, and find it to be the best of both worlds. Closer handicaps like 1/8th, but bigger speeds like 1/4 mile. From 1000' on, you're just ridin'.

Randall Klein 03-04-2014 06:16 PM

Re: HP adjustments after Carolina?

For me, I like 1000'......eighth a little quick but better than not racing. My 265 is puking it's guts after 1250 anyway. A lotta bad can happen after 1000

CRAP! Not even built yet and my combo is getting hit! Oh well, 7hp won't make the difference of qualifying or not...I think. LOL!

The hp on the 93-98 camaro was figured on ss instead of stock ...I have corrected it on the first reply #31.....
