We're planning on it.

Ten hours each way, and about $1100.00 worth of diesel. Don't want to sit in the rain that bad. Two Houston racers tipped me off to their weather and forecasts a couple hours ago. Worse than the weather channel app on my phone. Local forecasts are normally more accurate. Thanks to my friends, I'm skipping this one. I can make it up at Topeka. Already loaded up too. LOL

As cool as it is supposed to be, slowing the car down enough to stay out of trouble would be tough too.

You guys have fun.

Just looked at weather underground. Only one I trust. It says 10% Fri 40% sat and 60% sun. So maybe they will try to complete race sat. My car and engine are in pieces so I'll just be watching. So if it rains I won't have to be pulled out like last year.

Re: baytown mud fest

Ed, that is what my phone shows. I was told a local TV station there says 60% Saturday & 70% Sunday.

Bill's sister lives about 15 minutes from the track and she says it has been raining there for 2 days and forecast for Sunday is rain.

One told me it was 33 & raining all day today. I don't want a wrecker or winch truck pulling my motor home out of the mud either.

The weather looks too bad. This race should be rescheduled. It would be different if the entire pit area was paved. The pit area will look like a swamp.

We might go to watch. Sam still working on putting the motor in Big Red.

John, I don't want to get anybody in trouble, but people we both know from Houston have contacted our div director about rescheduling it. They said he won't hear of it. Me isn't buying diesel, is he? LOL

I got my pre-entry stuff in the mail today. Wasting that is cheaper than buying fuel to get there for nothing.

Local TV forecasts are now showing clear Friday, 20-30 percent Saturday, 40-60 percent Sunday.

It will take us a single tank of diesel to get there. That's not the problem. Getting stuck I. The mud is the real problem! This race should have been cancelled and a make up date posted. We will make a decision to go or to sit this race out on Thursday morning. Good luck to everyone attending this event.

Any of you Div 4 guys going to Lufkin next week? My car isn't near ready but I was thinking of going over on Saturday to hang around.

Bill Bagley 03-05-2014 11:07 AM

Re: baytown mud fest

We'll probably 'roll the dice' on Houston this weekend, close enough that a rain out wouldn't be too painful. I have a bigger concern for pit space, given all the rain that has fallen the past several days. If I have to be pulled out, my raggedy rig would probably come out in pieces.

We'll miss Lufkin next weekend due to a higher priority in south Louisiana.

And by the way, mega cudos to the Lufkin bunch and IHRA for calling in advance the big money bracket race scheduled for last weekend. Had they taken the chance and not cancelled, I can only imagine how many racers from the Dallas region or anywhere northwest of the track might have been stranded as they headed back home on Sunday afternoon.

Re: baytown mud fest

Looks like we will not go to the mud nationals this weekend. Good luck to everyone who braves the water and mud. Like Lil Joe Teuton says, this is supposed to be fun. When the fun is removed, it makes the decision more easily to make. NHRA should have postponed this event!

I just talked to Seth Angel. The grounds are not bad at all. He said there "may" be a few spots that they will block off. The weather shows 20-30% Sat. & 40% Sun. on all local stations. I know what everybody is concerned about from past experiences, but I live here, and I don't see it being a problem. We've had some rain, but not the kind that washed out the Nat. Event. I'm going out there later today. I'll let ya'll know what it looks like.

Sammy, let's say there is 0% chance of rain. The problem as I see it is since there was way too much rain in the last week or so, the ground is saturated and too soft. 18,000 pound trailer will sink and get stuck. Just not going to take the chance. Good luck to everyone who is going.

Bill Bouges and my self are out. But next week we are in IHRA Pine Valley. Then No Problem. Just saying

Ed Wright 03-06-2014 08:25 AM

Re: baytown mud fest

I'm out. Already in the trailer. If I don't decide to run Pine Valley, I guess it will sit there until the No Problem or the Houston nats.

Last minute decision ..... we're pulling the plug too. See you guys in Belle Rose.

I am close so going leave rig and dually the RMRE Hemi car for chassis recert and get a GP Friday. If you see me DQ is SS/AH it could be one of the following:

Plastic bumpers and valance
R&P coil over suspension
572 stroker
2900 lbs wet with me in it

Weather was great today.
Track has roped off suspect areas, so kudos.
Hope the rain holds off for the weekend.

It's going to be pretty swift out here today. Currently, it's 48 degrees 30.03 baro 93% humidity (DA -473). I still have to get teched in. The grounds don't appear to be to bad, but they do have some bad spots. The issue is when the grounds are this wet when holding a national because everybody is shoved back to accommodate the pros.

No Troy, more bad weather ahead. This race probably should have been rescheduled. It's just a thought. Could have had another 200 cars...

You won't even notice them. Just 25 total entries. 19 pairings and they're all done.

But most screw around longer than a top fuel car making a run. We could run 2 pair while they run one.
