"Live" from the Gators 2014
 

We are still in Valdosta waiting for Jeff to get up so we can get on the road. But I have reports from Gainesville! They opened the gates at 6 this morning and the Marshalls are #22. The Tysingers are #70. They are in and stacked and parking starts at 8. Pam said it rained a little down there last night, but it is not raining now.

#22 in and parked. Ground is swishy Sunny and blue skies. #41 parking now . That is about 40 per hour.

We finally got in and parked about 4:30. Then had to get race fuel since we were out. Then get teched and credentials. Then get the motorhome set up with jacks, slides, etc. Then we went over to the dinner that Scott Lamar and family puts on. This year it was in memory of Scott Helms. I have some pics that I will post later.

Sometimes it works out ok to get here late! We have a great spot in between Comp and Alcohol. Thanks, Redman!

It feels like we are back up North this morning! A cool 44 degrees. Should be some fast runs when stock goes out in about 30 minutes. It is clear and supposed to get to 62 today. Stock and super stock both have 2 qualifying runs this morning and then on to class. We should be running 1st round of class around noon or so.

Man is it cold out there! First run 46 degrees! On our gauges -651 density altitude. Wind blowing, too. 72 cars went down including factory showdown cars. A couple of -1.14 under. Lots of indexes were up wrong, so it may take a while before DRC times are up. Lots of cars way off the throttle before the finish line. We run again shortly. It looked like Skinner blew something up but there was no cleanup so maybe tire smoke, but it looked a lot worse than that. Mickey Whaley got up so high, he had to get out of it. I hope he didn't hurt anything. Bryan Phillips had a really nice wheelie also. Billy Leber is driving Scot Lamar's stocker. Michael Iacono is driving the stocker that Doug Patrick had. They announced that it was Randy Wilkes driving one of Marion Stephenson's cars. Don't know if that is so or not.

DRC has the 2nd round up. They are showing Randy Wilkes as #73, but he is not here. They had his number instead of Nicole Stephenson. Class will begin shortly and all the qualifying will change. Lots still on the brakes!

A couple of highlights from what I've been able to see so far.

Chris Holbrook's new Cobra Jet is not only a work of art, it's now the sport's quickest Super Stocker with a 7.902 pass.

Don Fezell was looking to back up his earlier 8.55 run in Class, but blew the tires off and still ran 7-tenths under

Darren Poole Adams had his COPO on the back bumper for the better part of 200 feet. Hopefully the photogs got some good stuff.

First round Factory Showdown up soon.

Some nice runs in class! The only 1000' obvious run was Butner and Strickland.

You are correct that the factory showdown cars do not get horsepower for their runs! What a crock!! Also if there are any byes in eliminations, they get them all. I love the new cars, but they are super stockers! Put them where they belong!
