Well, most of us didn't have 100K laying around.....but I know where you're coming from
I'd rather take something and max it out thru test & effort rather than write a check...just sayin' Take care Alex, if all goes well we'll see you in Columbus (hope your doing well) |
Re: Why didn't they sell these when we were kids?
Brain is great Randy, just the body and the@^$@^%$@^% insurance company that's unco-operative.
in 1969 dollars I figure it would have cost around $10 grand or so looking forward to seeing you guys, boy do I miss BIR and racing in general :-( |
Re: Why didn't they sell these when we were kids?
Brain's OK? Your thinking $10,000 was do-able in 1969? I'm making $1.65/hr pumping DX Super Boron @ .29/gal. trying to swing 36 equal payments for my '69 396/375 Nova that listed for $3,625, lying thru my teeth to my Insurance guy that it was a small V-8 to pay for premiums.....'ya sure, coulda had a ZL-1 for $7K plus and had the $3 in the pocket!!!
Better have that brain checked again! Just kid din' ol friend.....take care |

$3.50 an hour in 1969? Yes, he was your uncle. Everybody else in the country was making less than 1/2 that.

Re: Why didn't they sell these when we were kids?
What will they be worth in 40-50 years? I bought a '67 GT500 in '77 for $3,900. I could probably trade the GT500 for 2 Cobra Jets today (if I still had it)

Re: Why didn't they sell these when we were kids?
I dunno, 40 yrs from now it may be better to invest in play stations, nintendos etc the way the younger set is trending.....not much into cars.

I didn't get to mess with cars in earnest until I was out of HS. I well remember the insurance racket. I passed on a lot of neat cars. The car I could afford, it was the insurance that was the killer. Those were the days, I remember passing on a 67 Corvette 427-425hp single carb motor, $2500 I believe, 1973. Don't recall the premium they required but do remember it was expensive. |
Re: Why didn't they sell these when we were kids?
When I got back from Nam in 1969 I bought a fuel injected 61 Corvette for $1300.00 I saved while in Nam. Went to work in a service station for $1.60/hr. traded the vette straight across for a 66 Shelby. In the small town in eastern Washington at the time was what turned out to be a rare car. A Mexican friend bought a new (1969) firebird TransAm convertible. I guess they only made like 8.
