Headers for 85 Camaro

Building a 85 Camaro for IHRA crate motor stock. Fast burn 385hp. version. Looking for 1 5/8 headers. Whats the best choice? Not a lot options. A little help please.

Since Jere Stahl has closed up shop, if you want 4 into 1 headers, KromerKraft is the way to go.

Make sure the headers you get match the ports, esp at the top. Some headers do not fit the FB heads correctly. Don't just let the seller tell you it fits, check it yourself.

the Hedman flat collector header for those cars is not very good. the collector just doesn't work, and there's not much you can do with it.

How is spark plug access? I had 2 sets on my '96 car before Stahl built a jig off Bobby Warren's car. Had to unbolt the headers to get some of the plugs out. #5 was boot almost touched the tube. With my Stahl's I can get all my plugs in & out, and they picked me up 5 hundredths (same size tubes & collectors).
I was very lucky to get one of the last sets they built.
Performance Welding would probably be your best bet.

It's excellent. I actually loved those headers except for the flat collector. You can't really change it, and I'm not sure that it gave a good average on the wide band.

I think 1 5/8 straight tube header is too small for that motor. Maybe a two step 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 with a 3" collector.

Re: Headers for 85 Camaro

Greg,
My testing says you are right. The 385's I've done respond to the 2 step. If you are running a P/G combination the 15/8 might help by rocking the Tq curve down a little. Always lost MPH and high #'s on the dyno with them. A collector change to a "Too big" helped, but not enough. didn't respond to a merge. the big 2 step did show something with the right merge on the track.
