COPO shootout
I am looking for input about having a COPO shootout at Beacon Dragway in Paducah, Ky. We are thinking of having this race on August 16th. This is the week before the Beech Bend points meet . We are planing to pay $7500 to win, and the race will be run off of the then current 1/8 mile indexes. Also going to open the track for COPO only testing on Sunday and Monday, and rigs can stay at track until ready to go to Beech Bend or Indy. If we could get at least 8 cars to commit to this, I think we can make it happen . I mainly need opinions on our target date of the event; any other input would be appreciated as well.

Re: COPO shootout
Is this going to be a heads up race or a dial in ? Would come to a heads up but would not on a dial in !

Re: COPO shootout
Gump I was one of the people that signed your license at bowling green, you may remember me now. the plan now is to run off of the then current 1/8 mile index, no dial under no breakout , does this sound good? We have also thought about a separate heads up race. We have also planned for the cars to run at legal weight with no fuel check.Thomas we would love for you to attend your to close not to attend!

Re: COPO shootout
The entry fee will be $200 . The payout will be $7500 to win,$2500 runner up,$500 semi, $250 quarter. If we decide to do a separate heads up race it will be a gambler format. I should also mention that the track owner is Keith Murt who owns a 2012 427 COPO . If anyone has interest in attending this event please post here or p.m. Me so we can see if we can make this event happen. Keith is also sending out emails to some of the owners he was in training with.

Re: COPO shootout
We would be interested but it would put us on the road for over 3 weeks. COPO Shootout, Bowling Green, then Indy.
|
Re: COPO shootout
I will bring at least one COPO.

Re: COPO shootout
What are the details of the heads up gamblers race? NA cars run at X weight and SC cars at Y weight? I assume that heads up gamblers race means that entry fee is a certain amount and all is paid out to the winner?

Re: COPO shootout
Is the "no dial under rule" etched in stone?

Re: COPO shootout
The heads up race would be like an outlaw deal no weight no tire size anything goes. This is just a thought. Nothing is in stone right now , we need input on the format so we can get the maximum number of cars so any input is appreciated , our thought was use the index then no dial in ,no breakout if this is not the best way no problem to change right now. Thank you for any input, Keith wants this to be a big and fun event.

Chevy only? no fords or dodges?
|
Re: COPO shootout
The heads up race would be all run heads up any tire any power adder, this is like a outlaw deal . I don't know how many cars fit this but there must be a few. This race is COPO only , if this race is a success we have discussed a factory shootout later.

Re: COPO shootout
No way that you can convince a person with a 350 ci COPO to come to race heads up with a person that has a 327 ci 4.0 super charged COPO. Doesn't add up.

Re: COPO shootout
Yes I am aware of the different COPO combos but as mentioned there is a few that are not class legal now like Keith's car which is a 427 car but has nitrous on it and I know of at least 2 more that have changes that makes them illegal for class racing. I think a big blower car and a nitrous 427 could be a very interesting race! Do we have anyone else that would be interested In coming to this event I know a lot of you already have this year planned but we would like this to happen just seems interest is a little light.thank you guys for your input

Re: COPO shootout
I have to wonder why a legal NA car would want to run a blown car heads up.

I think you mean Copo shootout, COBRA JET Showdown, and then Indy! I kid, I kid, but we do like to see the Candies trailers roll in. Per Brett's request the CJ rules were amended this year to take into account being over the minimum weights to make it more fair. On a serious note, it's tough to get the cars equal for a shootout. And as the years go by the gap widens between cars of even the same engine combo as some stay stock and some get WAY faster! To the original poster, feel free to message me if you've got any questions on how or why we've done the CJ showdown over the last few years. |
Re: COPO shootout
Jesse, you know we would not miss the Cobra jet Shootout:D. Where would we go to have heads up racing and have some great fun with great racers.

I don't see an invitation to your lil fat buddy down here? I learned how to take a shower last year, and I bring my own beer.
