7 second SS club

Just in case this gets lost in the IHRA Baton Rouge thread...PB wheeled our Candies Family Motorsports Super Cobra Jet to 4 consecutive 7 second passes this weekend! The runs were 7.88, 7.90, 7.88, 7.88...fastest speed was 176!! Thanks to Kyle & Jim for thier relentess efforts on this fantastic accomplishment. Our leader was sure smiling down on us! Know he is proud up there. :D

No, I told you when you have a stocker that runs1.15 under the SS index, the hp factor is bogus. Nobody is that smart, or can work hard enough to make a legit combo do that. Several of us have talked about that, and all agreed.

Those runs by that CJ last weekend are impressive. Good job!

>Sonny said: "Good job Ed thinks everybody that runs fast just buys there stuff"<

Sonny, you know I don't think that about you guys. Your old Volarie <SP?> was fast way back when. I know you guys do your own work, and work hard at it. You have to know I have a lot of respect for you guys, I have told you, James, and Lloyd that.

Most guys that run fast do buy their engines. Makes me feel really good if I can ever outrun one of them.

Re: 7 second SS club

Bret, monitoring manifold pressure with blown engines to make the racing as close as it is not would be a nightmare. Measuring pulleys sure won't do it. Impellers and internal case modifications will alter boost and boost curves. I doubt NHRA has anybody capable of policing that, or would want to. I do a lot of tuning for ATI Procharger, and have been through their plant several times. Different engines get different impellers, they all look the same to the untrained eye, and would take measuring (and knowing how & what to measure) to know the difference. I would be amazed if some Stockers & SS cars didn't now have, or end up with, modified blowers. They would need to develop and furnish blow-off valves like F1 does. And, just like Formula 1, somebody would figure out how to screw with them. Thinking measuring pulleys like they do now is all it takes is comical.

I call it "Back to the Future". ;-) We have already floated the idea and are looking forward to talking to the racers at the Auto Meter Northern Class Nationals about a serious implementation of Factory Pro Stock (SS/AA and SS/AAA) and Factory Stock for next year.

Re: 7 second SS club

Instead of talking about what "can't" be done, why don't we put a little effort into what "can" be done? No, there's not going to be a single class that all different cars fit into. That's the nice thing about racers having their own event. We can gather feedback from racers, make the classes that we think makes sense, and market & showcase them accordingly. We have more than a year before the 2nd Annual Northern Class Nationals.

Any ideas as to what Barton's car could run in Super Stock form, is there any room left for improvement with a few more engine mods and the bigger tire?

Ed you are definetly right about the blowers in S and SS, I know a few of them in SS that are modifying the internals and gears and they are not even lasting after a few passes...........

Re: 7 second SS club

I think these cars need to be featured more! They look very close to what you buy on the showroom, they could get a lot of interest to the sport if showcased properly....

For the "record" we made 2 runs in the 7's this weekend at Houston, TX NHRA national event. Trans & starter problems prevented from more than 2.
