Norwalk ??
It has been quiet on here, anybody know how things look around there ?? Linders lot ?? pit
area (for those of us that don't get paved pits) ?? We always look forward to going to this event !!! |
Re: Norwalk ??
If you go to Norwalk's site and click on upcoming events it gives a breakdown of schedule, you can park 1pm to 10pm and tech is 2pm to 7pm Thursday.
|
Re: Norwalk ??
Spoke with Bobbi last night... Based on her comments, and the new rain received last night, I doubt they will use Linder's Lot, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them start parking (much) earlier. They were considering stacking on the pit roads on the grass side, as they did in the past. Best advice -- from someone at the track this morning !

Re: Norwalk ??
Anybody at the track that can report on the weather forecast & current pit conditions ??
Trying to make a decision here !!! |
Re: Norwalk ??
Cellphone reception has always been an issue at Norwalk. Might explain the lack of response.
|
Re: Norwalk ??
We are about 20 mins from the track and there is a bunch of standing water in the fields. Will try to report more when we get there if possible.
|
Re: Norwalk ??
We are here they are bringing us in the Budweiser side on the east side of the track and then parking you from there. taking your money right at the gate. Lenders lot is closed.
|
Re: Norwalk ??
The guy parking us on the west side said it's a one shot deal. We are parked the pits are very wet.
|
Re: Norwalk ??
Stock & S/S got the east side asphalt and as of 9:00 am it's full. First time run is done. Conditions should be good w/ a density altitude of about 900 ft and temps in the mid 50s. A S/C car just had an issue past the finish line - that means a schedule delay of TBD. Have not seen any Q sheets.
|
Re: Norwalk ??
Just like Atlanta the Stock and S/S were instructed to see Travis to verify correct classification and weights.
|
Re: Norwalk ??
63 Stockers in the first session and about 15 more for the second time run. The usual players are on the top. As of 4:00 S/S just started its second session as the clouds darkened and very light sprinkles started - just like the Weather Channel said it would. There is a full card of entertainment planned tonite including Gassers, Drag Radial cars, jets and fireworks. Cars are going in the trailers.

Re: Norwalk ??
Thanks for the update Mike.

Re: Norwalk ??
Cell phone signal is very hit and miss, so I haven't been able to do anything with pics. Busy day getting two cars through tech, two hits in each, plus a little tinkering inbetween. Discovered a brake issue in the Volare, but got things squared away for Q2, thanks to Terry Knott.
The air on my station has been pretty stable from the cool morning into a fleetingly semi-warm afternoon, and then into quickly cooling early evening (and now downright cold), ranging from 790' to 900' and back to 719'. We had a couple of tiny sprinkles, but the track has been very proactive about checking, stopping, and dragging. I was first pair out after one sprinkle and subsequent drag... Track was perfect! Picked up .02 on 60', and yanked the wheels noticeably higher (such as it is). Fun pass! |
Re: Norwalk ??
Saturday morning update - RAIN - with a forecast that is not encouraging for the rest of the day. But tomorrow looks perfect. See the following announcement from NHRA division 3 that kills the planned third Stock and S/S qualifier.
NORWALK, Ohio - 9:45 p.m. A lengthy delay following an accident during the first Super Comp qualifying session, an hour-long misty, fog-like period of rain in the afternoon and a prolonged cleanup during the first qualifying session for Top Alcohol Dragster pretty well discumbobulated Friday's racing schedule at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park. The first qualifying sessions for Competition Eliminator, Top Sportsman and Top Alcohol Funny Car have been moved to Saturday, along with the DRAW/RFC Super Shootouts presented by Moser Engineering and first qualifying sessions for Top Fuel Harley and Pro Fuel Harley. Planned third qualifying sessions for Stock and Super Stock were scrubbed. We will post the revised Saturday schedule as soon as we receive it, along with the results of Friday's abbreviated qualifying. |
Re: Norwalk ??
I heard the pitter patter on the roof this morning, rolled over and turned my alarm off. It sounded very light, and later I heard the tractor out on the track. In the last few minutes however, the rain has picked up, and the tractor is off. Well, now it's tapered off again. When it does quit, the drying process will likely take a significant amount of time. Whatever can be done, Norwalk can do it though. I'm sure they have to give priority to classes that didn't run yesterday, though.
Must've stopped raining, as the first 'Stocker alarm' just went off. Not sure where they are going! ;-) Tractor's back on the track, brooming water in the shutdown. Lots of work to do. |
Re: Norwalk ??
11:20 am. What progress that had been made to get the track dry has been wiped out by a shower that's hit the area. No announcements yet about schedule adjustments.
|
Re: Norwalk ??
AAAAAAAAAAARGHHH! I feel for you guys.
|
Re: Norwalk ??
Please keep us updated if possible, I was thinking of making the drive tomorrow.
|
Re: Norwalk ??
The pattern has repeated all day, with rain off and on, punctuated with drying efforts continually erased. We even had a couple minutes of light, tiny hail. The jet dryer is back on track. Nobody works harder, that's for sure!
I'm not sure what's possessed them, but Terry and Holgar have cleaned my car off yet again, almost ensuring another passing shower. ;-) Speaking of, congrats to Holgar on the E/SA record! |
Re: Norwalk ??
Racing scheduled to resume at 4pm. Top Sportsman has been called to thelanes, to be followed by Comp, TA/FC, T/D, and a bunch of show stuff, etc. Eliminations start tomorrow morning at 8:30am, with Super Street, Stock, Super Gas, and Super Stock.
|
Re: Norwalk ??
Looks like they are trying to squeeze in whatever got squeezed out yesterday before the next green blob gets there...
|
Re: Norwalk ??
And this just in from the Weather Channel: Frost advisory tonight through 9:00 am Sunday.
|
Re: Norwalk ??
Never did get a car down the track. Yet another shower hit, and they're drying the track yet again. Sun's out now at least, and I had a much needed nap.
|
Re: Norwalk ??
There's another line of green-and-yellow blobs that should be there in 20 minutes or so. Sure wish I was there...(I lied)
|
Re: Norwalk ??
They made it to the national anthem aaaand... It rained again. Sun AND rain at the same time, had a decent rainbow. Stands were packed all day, and watched jet dryer and tractors... to no avail. The plug has been pulled. Start time tomorrow moved up to 8am.
|
Re: Norwalk ??
Did they announce run order?
Thanks! |
Re: Norwalk ??
Didn't hear... Keep an eye on dragracecentral, maybe they'll post a schedule.
|
Re: Norwalk ??
Will Do. Thanks!
|
Re: Norwalk ??
Jay Hullinger was working on it at 7:30, I hope to get a copy shortly.
Plans to start at 8 a.m.ish and run the final qualifying for Comp, Top Sportsman/Dragster and Top Alcohol starting at 11. That would put TAD/TAFC at 2:30, 5 and 7:30, work everything else around those times. Gonna be busy, almost certain to spill over into Monday. |

Re: Norwalk ??
What a difference a day makes. Yesterday's clouds have parted, leaving a gorgeous blue-skied sunny Sunday for us. It was cold this morning with overnight temps in the 40s, but with little to no wind and the sun out, it didn't feel to bad. Stock was even quicker than Friday, with a DA just into positive territory. Harold Costello suffered a bad meeting with the wall in the shutdown area. EMS took him out, but reported he was alert and responsive.
It's warmed up quickly, turning into a picture-perfect day for racing. The DA was still only about 700' for Super Stock, running .04 quicker than even Friday's excellent conditions. All weekend long, people have been continuing to talk about the Class Nationals, from big thank yous to 'I'll be there next year!'. The enthusiasm has been overwhelming -- we appreciate it so very much! We got to present John Dinkel with the Honda generator from Bagley Tractor & Equipment, and Altronics presented Jim Clark with a new Performaire PA-2 Weather Station for the Perfect Dial award, as he was the first driver to run Dead-On with a 0! We're into Alcohol final qualifying and a boatload of other stuff to follow. It will likely be this evening before we see Rnd 2. |
Re: Norwalk ??
5:10 and no more Stock / SS runs. Top Alky / car going again, motorcycles, and who knows what else. A jet truck just went past.....Top Sportsman is up in the lanes for E1. There is 20K people here watching, again today, and they deserve the show - and they are getting it.
|
Re: Norwalk ??
Harold also got into the side of Rob Bihl.... Both cars were pretty messed up
|
Re: Norwalk ??
Life in the sportsman pits.....Motorcycles running again - they just ran Alky again - Super Gas got the call and Stock so far. No updates on Dragraceresults here either.
|
Re: Norwalk ??
They've completed second round of just about everything and will be running Top Dragster as well as the Alcohol finals etc, and then call it an evening. We will pick up with Super Street at 9am. They project we'll be done before noon tomorrow.
