Re: Don't miss us on Top Gear - USA tomorrow June 3
Better show tonight then usual - no cars were destroyed! (Although I wonder if Ron could tell us if there was any under-car damage after that final wheel-stand! WOW!!)
Thank you History Channel!! |

Re: Don't miss us on Top Gear - USA tomorrow June 3
I missed the beginning last evening but did get to see the last portion. Very cool deal to see on TV (for once).
When I saw Rutledge turn the wheel with the front end up I had a bad feeling about how it was going to land. I had concerns over a rookie driver and how he would handle a car that wheel stands. I think he got lucky. lol Enjoyed watching the episode, hope no damage was done to the Challenger, both cars run very well. Modern muscle performance is off the charts these days. Was just looking at the records in National Dragster last evening. |
Re: Don't miss us on Top Gear - USA tomorrow June 3
I thought the show turned out great.
There was only superficial damage - scrapped header - oh and a front end alignment. We would do it again but I think the driving school should use more than an air shifted non-wheel standing car. A super gas car does go into the 9s but a car like most of the ones - you guys on here have - can be a handful unexpectedly. BTW - the weather conditions were off the chart (30.30 baro 47 temp) and that caused the wheels up launch which was four feet higher than ever before or since. We have shock adjustments we can use to prevent the giant wheel stands - if we ever get in that air again. Not likely out here on the west (left) coast. Ron |

Ron, only thing missing was Andy, Ron, Kevin,Jeff & John and who knows else having adult beverages and discussing the program. That would have added a new demension to broadcasting. Was that what we discussed?

Overall it was a great show. Always love seeing S/SS on TV. And the car looked super cool!
I had a couple of those wheel stands at the class national. Go straight, go straight , go straight! At about half track thinking I better tighten the front a couple turns. |
Re: Don't miss us on Top Gear - USA tomorrow June 3
It was a fun project and I think it turned out well. I spent considerable time with the production team over the months leading up to the event so they understood the classes, licensing requirements, Factory Showdown, etc.
The Cobra Jet used is actually an SS car with the 4.0l supercharger but I think we did a good job of keeping the ETs close and building drama. Kudos to Ron and his team for making the long trek to Florida! They originally wanted to shoot at Pomona but that did not allow time for licensing resulting in a Long haul for the Challenger. Setting the car up for the big wheel stand was a gutsy call that made for good tv. |

I had spoken to several people (including you) for a long time trying to arrange a match race but it took a TV show like Top Gear to "get-er-done". We also spent a good amount of time with the production crew arranging the shoot - after I explained why Pomona would not work - we tried for Las Vegas but settled on Gainesville. It worked out well - NHRA - the new factory race cars - and our kind of racing got some great exposure. Ron |
Re: Don't miss us on Top Gear - USA tomorrow June 3
Where was the COPO Camaro for Adam to drive?
|
Re: Don't miss us on Top Gear - USA tomorrow June 3
Probably recalled
Yuk yuk, sorry couldn't help myself |
Re: Don't miss us on Top Gear - USA tomorrow June 3
I got to ask. How in the world did they get you to let those guys drive your car? From watching their show once in a while, I wouldn’t let those guys borrow a wheelbarrow.
It was great to see some S/SS cars on the show. |
Re: Don't miss us on Top Gear - USA tomorrow June 3
good show
congrats on the coverage |
Re: Don't miss us on Top Gear - USA tomorrow June 3
Have to give you guys a lot of credit. I got to visit a bit with Andy and you at Fontana last weekend, and was impressed at the operation you guys have got. I'm a little surprised that a drag pak win has been so late in coming, but you guys stand the best chance of doing it. The in car wheel stand video was pretty outrageous. You know a car leaves hard when the last thing that disappears under the hood is the horizon.

Saw it yesterday. Did you have to steam clean the seat? I am sure it smelled like poo.
