Hood pins in stock

It sure would be nice if the high sheriffs in the NHRA would let old stocker have hood pins as a safety precaution.

Great exposure , next thing you know we all will have to install "NHRA Legal" SFI hood tethers that have to be replaced every 2 years.

Re: Hood pins in stock

I had hood pins on a Stocker as far back as 1971 and received no comment from tech. And, those were the days when you might be sent to the reject line because of a missing piece of trim on the dash or the location of the interior door locks.

I was told by Division 5 that if it didn't have pins from the factory I could not have pins. I guess I should not of asked and just done it. I just didn't want to have two holes in the hood when they said NO. I don't see why it would be a problem after all we are all about safety. I am curious what Travis has to say about this.

If they are not a performance advantage and 100% for safety reasons they should be legal.

Rex,
How bad is the damage to the roof? That is very sad too see. I do not recall seeing Stinnet, or others with the same vintage cars with hood pins. Maybe some additional latching is in place on their cars. It may be worth asking. It is always easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Good luck
Sean

Hood pins should be an option if you want to run them. It is for safety.

Who would want to try and drive at 1000 foot when your hood pops up?

Re: Hood pins in stock

I remember a lot of S and SS cars back in the day with aftermarket pins for this very reason. The rulebook has always said "must retain factory hinges, latch, and hardware". Nothing ever said you couldn't add pins.

Do the Challenger Drag pack cars come from the factory with no hinges?

The roof damage is what really sucks. Getting the windsheild to fit along with the roof to look like it is suppose to is going to be a challenge. I never had any problems before but it only takes one time. It takes the fun out of it.
We have another car in stock I hope we don't have any problems with it. I don't like the teather idea. But I myself would rather have hood pins along with the factory latch than having collector teathers. I guess we will see what happens.

Wow..worse than I thought.
Seeing you're going to have to pull the headliner and the windshield anyway..I'd pull the back glass and splice in a roof from a donor car...Easier in the long run.

Re: Hood pins in stock

Great idea Mark, but you just don't find a donor car just everywhere. People think that first gen camaros are like gold.

I figured the roof was the last thing to rust out up there...and may be the only thing left on some.

Easier to change the whole roof, than to skin it...in my opinion.
