Best Engine Management System for the money?

I need a computer and harness for a '89 Mustang stocker. What's the best one out there for the money? I noticed that F.A.S.T. has a "sportsman" computer that looks intriguing for around $1500?

I also need a harness that is fool-proof for me (wiring is not my strong point). I have a Moroso switch panel that I'm using that it would need to integrate to.

Thanks!
Earle

I have tuned just about all of them. I much prefer the FAST system. My second choice would be the new Holley system.

I really like the Holley HP system. It has a lot more defenition than the other systems that I have had. It also has a pretty awsome "learn mode". The customer service is top notch.

Thanks! Are both of these comparatively priced and is the ease of installation similar?

Earle, the XFI Sportsman system has a lot of bang for the buck! It is a bank to bank system and it will datalog directly to your laptop. If sequential fueling and/or internal datalogging (directly to the ECU) are features you want or need, the XFI 2.050 is the best fit for you. This is the system that most of my Stocker and Super Stock customers use.

Earle,

I'd reccomend the fast sportsman or XFI. I'd be happy to get you a price on both Monday morning. PM me with the specifics of your combo

Thank you for your replies. I am looking at the XFI Sportsman and also one called MegaSquirt. What interests me about the MegaSquirt is that it uses the stock harness. Has anyone used this?

I'd avoid the mega squirt simply based on available data/tuners. The FAST has the most available data and most people familiar with it. Besides, do you really want to use a 25 yr old harness?

The people who sell mega squirt I believe have replacement harnesses available

David, I would not do that. You would be better off with the FAST XFI.

Re: Best Engine Management System for the money?

I've used AEM, FAST, Big Stuff, Megasquirt, and some others. I've had great success with all of them and I've had issues with every one of them. I always pick the best system that suits the customers needs. The best bang for your buck is the Megasquirt hands down, especially if there is an already made harness available. It's hard to beat their prices when you're looking at a budget build.

If you need assistance with any of them feel free to call.
