"Heavy-Hitter" Chevelle?
Friend of mine attended the recent Epping LODRS race and saw a '68 or '69 Chevelle
stocker called "Heavy Hitter. Wasn't that a West Coast car at one time? |

Re: "Heavy-Hitter" Chevelle?
I believe that car was orig. run by Rob Robinson from Ore.? If my memory serves he had some connection to baseball so hence the name.It was a hard running car in the late 80's,I think he sold it around 90'.The current owner has/had it for sale on here. gsa612

Re: "Heavy-Hitter" Chevelle?
Donny Moulton was driving the car yesterday at the ASRA race at New England Dragway. I don't know who owns the car, I think Don is just driving it. He frequents this forum, hopefully he'll reply.

Re: "Heavy-Hitter" Chevelle?
If my memory is right....it started as "Heavy Hitter" in Portland as Stark Street Pizza's Rob Robinson. Then the Emmons Bros, then to some guys in Kentucky then to Ohio.....

Re: "Heavy-Hitter" Chevelle?
john and linda melvin had it in the 90s and i think it went to the emmons after that

Danny Gracia originally owned the car and sold it to Delmer and Tony Wood who sold it to Rob Robinson. It was owned by the Emmons family for a while then went to someone in Kentucky. Can't tell you where it went from there.

Re: "Heavy-Hitter" Chevelle?
I think the "Heavy Hitter" name started with Rob Robinson as he had a '65-'66 Chevy wagon with that name prior to the Chevelle.
|
Re: "Heavy-Hitter" Chevelle?
Rob picked up the car from Woods at the MileHighs... either 85 or 87... I was there pitted near Rob when he got it... sorry I don't remember which year... and I'd agree that the Heavy Hitter name was carried over from the wagon...

Re: "Heavy-Hitter" Chevelle?
The Heavy Hitter Chevelle is rich in history.Owned by Rob Robinson of Stark Street Pizza fame, I have been told Rob is a member of the softball hall of fame, hence The Heavy Hitter. When I met John Melvin he couldn't wait to show me the paint job on the Heavy Hitter. Hidden in the paint job a very talented painter or artist used the smallest brush in the world to depict a couple .....getting their groove on. LOL... John was very proud of the artwork. Sadly, years later John had a stroke and his racing days came to an end. John was quite a fierce competitor. The Emmons Brothers acquired the car and raced it occasionally although I couldn't tell which brother was driving the car at the time..LOL....My close friends from Horse Cave, Ky. ,The Forbes family then bought the car from the Emmons. After running it for years they traded the car to MR. Erwin in Ohio and I shortly lost track of the car. So nice to hear that The Heavy Hitter is back on the track.....Regards, M.J.

I had the pleasure of owning this car for five years. Loved the story and history. Did not get to do everything I wanted as far as updating but was able to do a little. Very happy to see Donny already at the track with it going rounds.

Re: "Heavy-Hitter" Chevelle?
So does this mean the Mustang is retired or just waiting for a better NHRA HP rating
|
Re: "Heavy-Hitter" Chevelle?
The Mustang is just resting till I get the money to put another Cobra Jet together. Someday, but till then it is just the Heavy Hitter.
|
Re: "Heavy-Hitter" Chevelle?
I would love to hear any other info on my car. I love the history behind it!
