Indy Super Stock Entries

As of a couple of minutes ago; Super Stock was at 54.4% of quota for Indy (87 entries with a quota of 160). Considering that in previous years the quota was 180; there may be some racers who will not be able to get in.

You are right Jeff; Indy goes to Grade 1 on Aug. 6 which is next Wednesday.

Jeff, got one point at Columbus a couple of weeks ago, Not my car but you do know the driver. LOL. Ray Daily looks to go plus Cleve Stewart, he was at Belle Rose in the blue car. I know he has at least two. I always thought you had to have at least one. There are some exceptions, past champs, etc.

Ive been in this game a long time but never paid attention to the grading point deal until now. We are building a comp car and will have no points before indy. We called glendora to check because the car may be done and mr browell has put together a really nice payout package for indy, but they told us you must have at least one gp to enter a national event, even if the quota isn't filled. Im assuming that goes for all sportsman classes. ...

Ben, I know racers who teched at Bowling Green the weekend before Indy, sent the info in and entered and got in for Indy. Never would have done than when I raced Indy (last time was ten years ago), but can be done nowadays.

Re: Indy Super Stock Entries

Thanks, Mike! BG is just too far of a tow for us just to get a point, and John and I have an obligation in Norwalk for the NMCA event that same weekend.

Plus we don't have the engine done yet......I think that might be the biggest kink.....hahaha

I was just trying to help clear up the 1/0 grade point discussion

Nitro Joe Jackson 08-01-2014 11:54 AM

Re: Indy Super Stock Entries

Ben, you should of went and got a "rental car" and entered Stock at Columbus a few weeks ago cause that would of worked for 1 grade point also for the comp deal.

Although SS/AH gets a lot of attention, SS/B looks like its worth the price of admission

SS/B is always worth the price of admission. It is my favorite Super Stock class, (just check out my avatar)!

Re: Indy Super Stock Entries

As of a couple of minutes ago Super Stock was at 144; only 16 spots still open. It will probably be filled by Monday, a full 3 weeks before the entry deadline.

Frito 08-02-2014 06:04 PM

Re: Indy Super Stock Entries

Normal operating procedure. Low counts in other classes but cut Super Stock by 20 cars. It would have been nice if the big three had asked for it to be put back to 180. Maybe Aldo and Kershaw could still try. Win Win. More $$ for NHRA, more exposure for Chev, Ford & Chrysler, more racers, more cars for fans to see. HUMMM As for the pit space argument, there is plenty of room in the North West corner for rigs.

147 now. Did it fill up this fast last year? I don't remember it like this. But, I'm old, so....

Re: Indy Super Stock Entries

There will be more jump in as it drops another grade point. There will be more drop out as they find out that they can't or don't want to attend.

I hope to go back one day. It will not be this year, there is no way to have the engine done in time, then prepare the car, especially not to make Bowling Green, as bad as I'd like to.

The last time, we did not have a solid engine, it did not seal up and run well until the next race, because we rushed it. I left with my tail between my legs and an ugly DNQ. That will not happen again.

No Ed, it didn't; it's at 158 now. In an earlier post, I predicted that it would be full by Monday; I have to retract that, it may be full before I go to bed tonight!

I find it hard to believe that Super Stock reached its quota this soon. Nhra should give serious consideration to adding another 20 entries. 180 is what they had last year.

Re: Indy Super Stock Entries

I am sure they will raise the quota to 180. There are quite a few racers that I know that plan on going that aren't entered. The majority of the hemi cars don't rave anyway so they should add more quota for that reason. Or even better don't require anyone that is only planning on running the hemi shootout to enter the race.

I believe the All Star race is the only race you can be in and not enter the event.

per the rules a while back if a class fills at grade 2 and they raise the quota no grade less can enter.

180 is what they've had for as long as I can remember. NHRA has increased the quota at other events; hopefully they will do so for Indy.

Re: Indy Super Stock Entries

Stock may be filling slow because of the Factory Stock classes. It makes it hard for ordinary stockers to make the field. Last year, I think the first ~20 spots were factory stock cars.

BRINK 08-04-2014 10:28 AM

Re: Indy Super Stock Entries

You snooze, you lose. NHRA stated the quota of 160 entries at the beginning of the year, and they meant it. The only reason that Stock has 180 entries, is the Factory Stock event which caters to the OEM's. My question is why do people wait continually till the deadlines to enter, and then complain when the fields are filled. It appears to me, that those who are upset, wouldn't have made the 128 car qualified fields anyway. The U.S. NATIONALS is the last event where performance counts. This one is not just about bracket racing acumen. INDY is the Daytona, the Masters, the Super Bowl, the NCAA Finals, and the World Series of our sport. I'm always amused at the comments from the posters with no names, who only wish they would've made one more open or divisional so that they could've entered INDY. My suggestion, is that you start planning for next year's event, now.

Im betting NHRA will open Indy up to more SS entries. It looks like Super Gas and Super Comp will not hit 120 entries in each of those 2 categories. They have done that at other National events.

If I counted correctly there are 5 entries for SS/B (ford, chevy and amc). There is a total of 27 stick shift cars entered in various classes - COOL. A car you guys should take a look at is Troy Olsonawski's 66 Chevelle Wagon. He will be at Indy. The car runs in SS/NA and usually carries the front wheels about 60 feet. He was running in the 11.20's at the Northwest Nationals. The car is a wrap, not paint and looks AWESOME. There are pictures of it in the super stock section under Combo at Pacific Raceways results - check it out

You missed 1; there are 6 entries in SS/B. There are 3 Thunderbolts (Paul Adams, Ray Pacquet, and Dallas Kelly), 2 Corvettes (Brandon Wilkinson, and Jimmy Bridges), and 1 AMX (A.H. Adkins). Don't underestimate the AMX, he won SS/B class at the Northern Class Nationals at Columbus; if I remember correctly, he beat Paul Adams in the final.

The quota for Stock was 180 entries long before the Factory Stock Showdown was even thought of; it has been 180 for as long as I remember, and I go to Indy every year.

Re: Indy Super Stock Entries

It may be that when the class is not supported, NHRA cuts down the quota

Final qualifying Super Stock:
2011 (144)
2012 (166)
2013 (146)

160 may be generous(?)

Tony DePillo 08-04-2014 05:34 PM

Re: Indy Super Stock Entries

From my standpoint it's not too generous. I've been going for 14 years straight and I can't get in this year. Only one grading point due to engine breakage. Went to the Dutch last year and rain cancelled the event - no grading point even though we towed 500 miles back and forth and payed. Got my refund but no GP.
BRINK, I agree. I don't like people who don't use their names. The rest of your post showed about as much stupidity as that comment.

OOPS. Oh well, I never said my countin' was good. I did get some good learnin' back in the day though. I would never count out any AMX. Group 19 stuff works. I remember when AMC was competitive in Pro Stock.

I just checked the stats from last year and 12 of the top 14 cars were Factory Showdown cars. The top qualifier was Gary Summers and his U/S Mustang at 1.642 under.
