"Live" from Z-Max 2014
We should be there in a couple of hours. We left last night for the almost 600 mile trip. It has been a nice ride so far. Even Black Mountain wasn't so bad! I think they are parking til 5 so we should be in today with no problem.
More later! |

Good afternoon everyone, I just finished up with tech and had time to shoot some photos. Its a warm day here, in the upper 80 and humid. Hoping we can get a early qualifying shot tomorrow. Local weather is calling for a 60% chance of rain tomorrow for tomorrow afternoon, we should get some racing in before then.
Parking here is always a pleasure, plenty of room. If your on the fence about this race, it should be on your bucket list. Its has to be one of nicest tracks in the country. |

Re: "Live" from Z-Max 2014
Well the first round of rain has arrived. We were down at Scott Lamar's eating great steak when it started. Thanks Scott! Great dinner! Now it is really pouring! Looks like TV and early turn-in tonight. We are supposed to go out at 8 in the morning, but I am sure that is all subject to change. More later.
Oh and thanks for lunch, Rich. 5 Guys is great! |

Good morning all, no rain yet, but man is it sticky out. Very warm, very humid, and no breeze. Weather forecast for today in no rain until 1:00 and only a 40% chance at that, who knows we may get a whole day of racing in. They will be calling stock to the lanes at 7:30.
The weather numbers for this morning..... Temp 78 Humid 74% Bar 29.33 DA 2861 Water Grains 107 Wind none |
Re: "Live" from Z-Max 2014
49 stockers made the first run. Drew Skillman #1 at 1.02 under. Hot and muggy. Showing we get another run before beginning class.

Re: "Live" from Z-Max 2014
Audiocast isn't working and live timing shows the pairs but no times.

Re: "Live" from Z-Max 2014
Not getting audiocast either.
|
Re: "Live" from Z-Max 2014
music just started playing. hopefully we'll hear some racing soon
|
Re: "Live" from Z-Max 2014
Rubber coming up off of track. We are down now and cancelled out until after both sessions of pros. It is bright and sunny now, but rain forecast for later. Hopefully we are not done for the day including class. But we just have to hope it does not rain!
|
Re: "Live" from Z-Max 2014
We are on hold, they have being working on the track for over an hour. Super Stock finished up and I believe a one pair Super Gas went down and then we went on hold. They told Super Gas to go back to their pits. Not sure of the issue, but alcohol will be out and then the pros before the sportsman get to run again.
The weather is surprisingly nice. The humidity went down, it is warm about 85, but its not bad out and there is no rain in sight. It could change later today according to the weather forecasters, but who knows. Opps... sorry Patsy did not see your post. |
Re: "Live" from Z-Max 2014
Just got word that Stock is stand by for class round 1. After that that the pros will be up. Nothing else about the rest of the schedule.
|
Re: "Live" from Z-Max 2014
Changed their minds! Just called round 1 of class to lanes!

Re: "Live" from Z-Max 2014
Broke a driveshaft u-bolt right at the hit this morning but Terry had spare everything. Think we're ready for the next run...
Although the torrential downpour last night didn't last long, apparently they're battling some water seepage. Been awfully quiet for a dragstrip! For having a 40% chance of rain, you'd figure it'd at least be a little overcast. ;-) Hot, humid, and very sunny. To be honest, I didn't even know they were running Stock Class Eliminations here, until yesterday. They moved Class up, so Stock got their second run in before the alky and pro stuff, so I imagine Stock is done for the day other than finishing Class. The car went down the race track, so we're on the sheet and as ready for tomorrow as we can be. We went out to dinner last night, as Terry did plenty of research planning our Charlotte itinerary. Midtown Smokehouse was our destination, and it was flat out incredible. With a crew of 7, we were able to sample a little of everything from bbq chicken, sausage, ribs, brisket, pickled onions, sweet potato fries, and the best bbq baked beans I've ever had. If you're here and can get away this weekend, definitely put them on your list! I've taken a few pics, but the signal's been hit and miss. Taken all day just to post this (if at all!) |
Re: "Live" from Z-Max 2014
Broke the Jerico again! Larry has it out and has taken it to Jerico who is a mile and a half from here! Not a happy camper!
Just called round 2 of class back up |
Re: "Live" from Z-Max 2014
What did he break this time? He sure has had alot of trouble for a new trans with less then 25 runs on it.
Imput shaft twisted in less then 20 runs broken finger in less then 20 runs l guess iam not the only one with Jerico troubles |
Re: "Live" from Z-Max 2014
Seems like a lot of people are having trouble with their Jericos lately.

Re: "Live" from Z-Max 2014

Here are some photos from the first round of class in the staging lanes. Still no rain, but very warm and humid. I know some of you like to know the weather numbers, here are the numbers for first round of class. It was about five slower then the early morning shot.
Temp 91 Humid 44% bar 29.39 DA 3700 water grains 105 wind light cross Pros are running the last qualifying for the day, and Super Stock, Super Classes should be out after they are done. |

That one you have should not have broken. I love the Jerico stuff, but I fear there is not the level of QC that once existed there. |
Re: "Live" from Z-Max 2014
Jerico is only 2 miles from the track, and Dad personally delivered it for "service" work.
I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when he was sharing his concerns for the transmission. If a v6 stocker can break items, I'd had to see something with real hp and torque. |
Re: "Live" from Z-Max 2014
Scott at Jerico did an exceptional job replacing the finger and checking out the transmission and replacing shift levers to the shorter ones so I won't have as much mechanical advantage over the shift fingers. I showed the broken part to Rick and suggested a radius be placed at the bottom of the cut to add strength to the finger. Jim Marshall and I had it installed back in the truck in less than 30 minutes. I race Don Fezell in the morning and that's what the crowd enjoys. A 5 second spot! Thanks Jim for helping!
