Metric 200 Flex and Trans shield
What are the best choices for Metric 200 flexplate and trans shield in a 98 F-body stocker? The trans also has a stabilizer bar mounted on the passenger side. Real estate is pretty tight in this car.
Thanks for input. |
Re: Metric 200 Flex and Trans shield
John, I got my trans shield from Tom Waters Race Products. The trans dipstick I use is a Lokar with the firewall mounting style. Tony

Re: Metric 200 Flex and Trans shield
Might want to check out Scott McClay's website, for a trans shield that is compatible with the brace.
http://www.scottmcclayengineering.co...nsmission.html Flexplate from ATI will have the correct bolt pattern, it is the same for a PG/200/350/400 THM for a sbc. |
Re: Metric 200 Flex and Trans shield
Thanks Tom and Russ.
Tom, I noticed your Lokar mounting location when I looked at your car Sunday. I got the same unit with my trans. I'll check out the info you both suggested. Thanks. |
Re: Metric 200 Flex and Trans shield
To clarify, I was asking about a flexplate shield and a trans shield. I already have the flexplate.
Thanks. |
Re: Metric 200 Flex and Trans shield
Flex plate and flywheel shield in Stock??????????
Just asking.......... Bob |
Re: Metric 200 Flex and Trans shield
The way I understand it, 10.99 or quicker requires trans and flexplate shields.
If it's something different, someone please help clarify. Thanks |
Re: Metric 200 Flex and Trans shield
I just reviewed the rulebook ....again.
In the Stock section, there is no reference to a shield for trans or flexplate. In general regs. section 2.14 it says that a trans shield (SFI 4.1) required in 10.99 or quicker. A SFI 29.1 flexplate and SFI 30.1 flexplate shield is required for 9.99 or quicker. I hope I got this right!! |

Not a class requirement in Stock and the exception is noted in general regulations.

Just a quick heads up on the NHRA rulebook..... It is written in NHRA speak which means that it is encrypted in a code that only NHRA has the key to.... The next time you want to read and attempt to decode the rule book you have to start with a well-lighted area, a large cup of coffee (strike that) a large bourbon & seven and have at it.... Understanding and making sense of the NHRA takes years of practice.. Just ask any Stock or Super Stock racer.. Bob |
Re: Metric 200 Flex and Trans shield
I have the Waters set up. Not too fun to install.

Re: Metric 200 Flex and Trans shield
If you go to any NHRA track and run the car on a regular bracket day or a test and tune day......A track official can and may tell you a trans shield is required on a 10 second car.
The rulebook has always had issues in there like this. A Stocker did not need a fire jacket when a bracket car did in the past. Now Stockers need jackets and pants so it's not an issue anymore. A Stocker may not need a trans shield at an NHRA race where Stock is run but it does if it is a 10 second car at a regular bracket or T&T day... I never had one but did see one is made for a Metric...... |
Re: Metric 200 Flex and Trans shield
I run a shield on my stocker because I bracket race it also. In bracket racing 10.99 and quicker require one, so I run one.

Re: Metric 200 Flex and Trans shield
Looks like McClay sells the Waters unit.
Based on the responses, I will use an SFI flexplate because I have one......will not attempt to install/fit a flexplate shield as it is not required.....and will likely install a trans shield for next year as I will probably bracket race as well as run NHRA/IHRA. Thanks for all of your input. |
