Re: My Indy top end crash photos

I have a couple of photos that were taken once the car was pulled out of the sand pit and back onto the grass (upside down) and a couple as the tow truck drove by on the return road. They are not great photos and were taken from behind the fence in the pit area.

Hated to see that happen to ya'.

PM me your email address if you want them.

Jeff

Hard to believe that NHRA doesn't have some pics. Have you asked them?
There is bound to be somebody with the pics of the car upside down in the nets.

NHRA supposedly videos every run, maybe ask them for that.

Yeah RJ I don't think any sportsman footage was taken on a Wednesday of a SS car run, you got that mixed up with the Pro cars. They wern't even concerned with what caused it not to stop. My GoPro cam didn't even start until car was back in my pit.

Believe me NHRA does not want any photos out in the public if they can stop them.

Jeff I feel your pain, beautiful car that was part of you. Everywhere we raced in D-4 you had an R on the window; what class racing is all about. Hope you can come back.

Yup.. at our track any incident is photo'd by the approved camera guy and kept under wraps by the track. I suspect that's in case of any liability issues arising. Non approved coverage especially at a NHRA event is not allowed.

Sorry to see your nice car get hammered. Did you figure out what went wrong? Anything you can share that other racers can check their cars? I remember a while ago when someone lost their brakes and wrecked due to the pedal push rod coming out of the master cylinder on launch. When I checked my car, it was possible for the same thing to happen.

I did get the run on Video Jeff, and video in the trap...from half mile away! nothing close though.

Yeah Bill when I first built the car had the same problem and built a rod that wouldn't come out of the master cylinder but was a two piece design that had a set screw holding the rod in the piece on the pedal was up in the piece about a inch and after nearly 30 years set screw came out no telling how long it had been that way. Roll pin would have solved the problem or some loctite, just my bad as they say.

Perhaps Bill is referring to Ken Etter's Fontana wreck...based on how badly he got banged up I'd say yours could have been far worse. Nevertheless I hated to see your car get so damaged, first saw it at one of Valdosta's National Opens and I was very impressed, in some ways more so than the Barton/Wescott battles waged there.

Thanks Rob, Guess I missed that one but thanks again that's a good angle. Guess no one had closeup top end photos. NHRA would not let anyone down there.
