powerslide?
i'm having issues with a glide. first blamed the new 7"convertor-then new kit -including band-then dual ring accumulator ----pressures within specs--the problem is that it acts like it slips in low gear-went up and down with the launch rpm--3200 #car--327 engine----high gear it seems to hook.what am i missing?----thanks for any help:confused:

Re: powerslide?
If it is slipping in low gear it will burn the band up almost immediately. Is the fluid burnt smelling? what makes you suspect that the trans is slipping in low gear? Are you using a trans brake? if the band is slipping the car will try to back up when you get up on the brake.

Re: powerslide?
thanks for the input----with my combination i can't get a good 60 ft (1.80) . one time during the burn-out i was told the tires quit turning----with the 7" convertor -456 gears -9"slicks i thought i would at least pick the front end up---i have no burnt fluid-new kevlar band---steel drum---what rpm launch do you think? shift at 8-85----could it be the new convertor? .

Re: powerslide?
Is this a foot-braked et-bracket type car? I'm wondering if you got too much converter
for your combo....assuming you went to the 7" after running an 8". |

Re: powerslide?
tranny worked good with an other combo--just went though the trans-6 passes on convertor for test- sent back once --too loose of a convertor? i'm frustrated and the end of race here for the winter with no fix

Re: powerslide?
Is this an IHRA class car or a NHRA SS/CS car and what is the low gear ratio? If it is a NHRA class car and your engine is built for high RPMs I believe your problem or at least part of it is your rear gear ratio. My NHRA SS/CS car uses a 6:20 rear gear and a 2:08 1st gear and uses a 7" converter that flashes to around 7600 with the 60's in the low 1.30's.

Re: powerslide?
more than likely too small of a rear gear for that heavy a car-- probably 5:83-6:20 would be more in order and 5:83 could be too small more like a 6:14 to 6:20 for sure--whats current low gear ratio?? need at least a 1:90 something or more too

Re: powerslide?
What size rear tire and rim, radials or bias? You may have the tires slipping on the rims.
When I first got my GT Olds running, I had a similar issue. I replaced the transmission, PG, twice before I found out my radials, 9x30, were slipping on the wheels. I ended up having to pin the tires. My tire shop used the normal liquid when they mounted the tires. They would actually slip on the rims for a split second or so. Something else to check. #5457 Curt Rees |

The shifter was actually traveling beyond where it needed to be and the car would porpoise on the launch. Some fine tuning and learning to leave the shifter alone until it was time to use it cured the problem. |
