Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
Thanks to all the racers who committed to coming to the race!
I just got word that the Stock, Super Stock, NSS Combo race date is Saturday October 25. This is great news. The combo race will be the track first S/SS event. Beach Bend last combo race is Sunday October 26. Now we can race Paducah on Saturday and Bowling Green on Sunday. Its about a 2 1/2 hour drive or about 140 to 150 miles track to track. More later.... |
Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
For those racers planning on going to both races, it will be ok to spend the night at Beacon Dragway, or leave your trailer there for the night and travel to Bowling Green Sunday morning.
I spoke with Dallas Jones at Beach Bend and if you arrive Saturday evening, stacking will be in the camp ground entrance. I think with the deer population we have in western Kentucky it would be safer to travel in the light of day. In the fall of the year deer are a real road hazard. Trying to help organize a race is very time consuming. My hats of to Michael Beard and Loose Rocker. More later on price, rules, and eliminations. |
Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
I've been hunting in western Kentucky and those monsters could do some serious damage to someone's rig.

Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
Here are directions to the track:
http://www.bing.com/maps/default.asp...ah%2c+KY+42003 S/SS,NSS Combo race at Beacon Dragway October 25, 2014 1/8 mile Gates open 10A.M. Open time trials 11A.M. to 12 P.M. Two regular time trials sessions after open sessions closes. Eliminations start after National Anthem around 2:00P.M. Entry fee $70.00 for car and driver. 100 % payback. Crew pass is buy one, get second at 1/2 price. That is two crew for less than $20. Parking. We have a reserved spot behind the office. We will be parked on asphalt or on grass with the car on asphalt. All cars need to be pitted behind the trailer. The smaller your rig the better. It will be close but workable. Cars eligible to compete : NHRA Stock, Super Stock, and NSS using NSSNA Rules. One exception to NSS rules will be, racer has to declare class before making a run. No making a run then declaring a class. Vp fuel will be available from Kyle Hanrahan 270- 269-9169. Fuel available will VP 11, 12, 14, 14+, and C25. If you have any other needs call Kyle and he do his best to make it happen. Beacon Combo Rules (a.k.a. Union Hill rules) 1. Tech card. must have number, class, class index for 1/8 mile, minimum weight, advertised hp., factored hp. and trans type. Tech card must be turned in and ladder position established before making any run. 2. Ladder. It will be a draw ladder without qualifying. When a racer turns in a tech card they will blind draw a number from a pool of 30 or more chips. The number drawn will be place the racer is on the ladder. Who ever draws #30 will receive a bye if odd number of cars first round. 3. Race procedures. #1 vs. #2, #3 vs. #4, and so on. If there is a gap in the numbers the next filled number will make up the next pair. Ex. #5 vs. #6 but #6, #7 not drawn so #5 would run #8 the next number used. When called for elimination pairs will run in numerical order with the lowest numbered pair first and will continue in that same order until racing is completed. Ex. round one run order, #1 vs.#2, #3 vs. #4, #5 vs.#8, #9 vs. #11. Round two run order winner of 1vs2 races winner 3vs4and so on. If a racer draws #1 that person will always be the first pair out as long as they remain in competition. The lowest numbered pair of cars will always be the first pair out in any round, followed by the next lowest numbered pair. Lane choice by coin flip. 4. Byes. Byes do not carry over. No driver will have two byes until everyone left in competition has received a bye. Byes will be performance based. The bye for round 2 if needed will be the winning competitor from round 1 that goes farthest under their dial. Ex. #1 vs. #2, # 2 red lights # 1 goes -.031 under, #3 vs. #4 is a heads up NHRA run # 4 runs -.453 under the dial of the national index, #5 vs. # 8, #8 wins by going .002 over the dial. If a bye was needed in round 3 it would go to #4 for running the farthest under. #1 would race #8 in in the first pair in round three. After the bye run # 4 would be reinserted in the ladder in normal position and would race the winner of #1 vs. #8 5. Heads up. NHRA classes each car will weigh before entering staging lanes, must meet min. wt. at scales before going to staging. NSS do not have to weigh since they run of off index with breakout in effect. |

Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
Can we run our IHRA stocker you came down and supported our combo here in memphis
|
Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
To my knowledge it is just NHRA class cars and NSS cars. Will your car fit a SS class maybe SS/ GT ?
|
Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
Gary I know you can run IHRA stocker at BG but never been to Beacon.
|
Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
I think they did away IHRA stockers and super stockers at Bowling Green a few years back, I could be wrong. Best thing to do is call and check before you make the trip.
|
Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
Bowling Green hasn't allowed IHRA crate motor stockers to run in years, however Larry if you are allowing Nss cars...why not IHRA crate motor cars...just wondering ?? M.J.

Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
A friend of mine that lives a mile from me got a call to bring his IHRA pure stocker to this race but it is a mopar

Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
I called BG just before last 2 day combo race and asked Dallas and he said I could run my S/GTF IHRA stocker said you can run at regular combo races but not at Sports Nats or points race before Indy. We didn't end up taking it we took Jeff"s Chevelle.
|
Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
I know for a fact that BG would not let Larry Deakins race his crate motor stocker at the combo races. Maybe the Jones family has changed their policy ?? M.J.
|
Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
I thought the same that's why I called first. anyways hope to have my motor finished soon then it will be H/SA :) and just maybe someday we will be fast like you MJ. But first we have to crawl before we can walk let a lone run.

Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
I called Don to let him know of the S/SS NSS combo race and ask him if his car would fit NSS.
In fact I called every racer that I had a number for that lived close enough to race the weekend. Thanks again to all that called or text me and committed to be at Beacon's first S/SS NSS combo race. IHM Used Parts is sponsoring the best wheel stand! |

Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
Crate motor and Pure Stock owners knew the landscape at NHRA tracks when they picked the combination...how about letting Larry concentrate on running the race? Hats off to everyone who goes out of their way to organize a combo race.

Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
Seems to me the IHRA car question would be resolved by the whoever is promoting the event.
If a group of S/SS racers promise the track they'll bring in 60-70 cars, but NO IHRA classes, I'm sure the operator would listen. On the other hand, with a track rental situation it's up to the promoter. I would allow IHRA cars in our combos, if we had any out here, as well as Comp cars that want to dial in. I'm sure the racers would appreciate the increase in pay out. Michael Beard had plenty of IHRA cars this past May...at an NHRA owned track Good luck , Larry and company |
Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
I am not running the race, Beacon is. I want the race to be a success so we as class racers have another place to race.
Beacon has everything in place to be a very successful track. Easy to get to, less than 5 miles of off exit 11 on I-24. Good parking, pavement and grass, the cars stay very clean. Race procedure is fair, firm, and friendly. Climate controlled and very clean restrooms. Good food fairly priced in the concession area that is also climate controlled and has comfortable seating. The track is family friendly! Track prep is done with PJ1 it used to be called VHT. The track has a counter rotating four race slick tractor that puts down rubber on the racing surface, plus the conventional tractor that sprays and drags slicks on a weighted sled. The starting line crew is pro active on the bald spots using "Gold Dust" to help maintain the hook. NHRA 1/8 mile indexes on NHRA Racer.com See you in the lanes! |
Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
Larry, you may want to talk to the people at Beacon about allowing IHRA-class cars into the combos there in the future. I've been promoting/putting on these types of races for sixteen years with our TSSSSA events. Most, if not all, S/SS Associations allow IHRA cars (except Bowling Green/Ohio Valley for whatever reason(s) ). There can be a decent addition to the car count by allowing IHRA cars into these races, especially if a car count of x-cars needs to be met for the track. I always believed a S/SS combo should be open to ALL cars that are NHRA and IHRA-legal cars (and many S/SS Assn's allow N/SS now as well, to help car counts). Just a thought for the future.

Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
Everyone knows that the IHRA cars people try to class race are mostly pieces of ***** just thrown together like the first episodes of Pinks. If they don't want IHRA cars at their race, I don't blame them.
...now if you think my comments above are absurd, it is not nearly absurd as not letting any IHRA cars participate in a S/SS combo. What is the difference between an IHRA Crate motor car and one of the new factory stockers? Ford Motorsport/Ford Racing sold my GT40 engine in 1992. I can't see where that's a whole lot different than buying a 5.0 Coyote in 2014 and stuffing it in a Cobra Jet. Am I wrong, crazy, what? What about a 500 cube Hemi running N/SS? What is stock or superstock about that? Just some thoughts from a West Virginia Hillbilly. |
Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
This weekend @Indy will be the first NHRA race for me and my car. I have bracket raced it and been out testing with it. But this is really its first time out to a sanctioned race. If all goes OK I am going to try and come to this race and maybe the BG race the day after. Only problem is somewhere in here it says something about rig size. I am almost 75 feet long and right now its the only thing I have to haul it with. Hopefully we can figure something out.

Bowling Green is NHRA cars only. Ohio Valley, it's been a couple years since I've been down there. They used to allow Crate Motor stockers and SS/Production IHRA cars. No GT/Stockers or Pure Stockers though? Don't understand that but the way it is/was. Bob |

This is the best chamber of commerce weather that we can have. It would be great to see us put on a real good show for the folks in the stands. Don't forget we will have VP fuel at the track. VP 11, 12, 14, 14+, and C25. Come one come all! |
Re: Combo race at Beacon in Paducah, KY
Wanted to say I had a very good time yesterday. And Thanks to Larry, Patsy, Beacon Dragway and everybody who put in the hard work to make this race happen. Cant wait for the next one. Would have liked to come down to BG today. But I gotta work and make some money today if I want this heap of mine to get faster.
Thanks again Rob |
