Four wide Nationals track repairs

Has anyone heard anything about the track repairs. Myself and some friends want to make plans to attend. We want to make plans to attend and time is running short. We heard through the grapevine that they haven't started repairs to the track.

I am quite sure that the repairs will be completed well in advance of the Four Wide Nationals the last weekend in March. Don't worry about it; go ahead and make your plans.

Re: Four wide Nationals track repairs

I was surprised when the problems came up again this year. Was there in 2011 when the track was pulling up and have been to 4 wides in 2012 and 2014 without the problem occuring. Was on the track checking it out and it almost looks like the base concrete has a very thin smooth topcoat that comes off/pulls up when the sticky tires go across it. Maybe somebody who is involved in concrete fisnishing can provide some insight.

PS Best race to attend as a spectator is the 4 wides and I have probably been to over 30 national events. Just make sure during at least one session you stand next to the fence past the grandstands as 4 fuelers go roaring by at 300Mph, really awesome.

might want to do what dragway 42 did and start all over, btw, eliminate the darn 4 wide bs, looks like hot wheels going down the track.

They started the repair work at ZMax in Concord NC. The rumor is there will be concrete to the 700' mark then asphalt to the finish line in the 4 lanes.

The saddest thing is that even before the repairs, this beautiful facility cost so much to build and has such high overhead just to open the gates that no one can afford to promote events there.

do you have approx cost for 2 day weekend event? I know some local tracks that will open the gates and supply track prep, starting line crew and tech inspection for $3,000 a day and sometimes a cut of the gate, depending on dates.

Let's just say that's not even close to the zipcode of the ballpark...

Part of the problem at Concord is coordinating dragstrip events with actiivities at the other facilities at that location because several tracks share parking spaces. Even so, I'd like to see greater use of the dragstrip but it's not a case of "the property is sitting idle" because there are almost always events going on at one or more of the other facilities.

I attended the WoO World Finals a few weeks ago and ever since I bought those tickets, I have been receiving at least one Charlotte Motor Speedway email each week listing events for the coming weekend and the coming month. It's a busy place.

The Four Wide was one of the most well-attended events of 2014. It's not going anywhere. Most pros have also warmed up to the concept.
