Fastest A/SA - A/S Car

I thought this might be a good weekly question that Mike started. Who do you think are the fastest A automatic and A stick cars.

I think the top cars for me would be...

Auto:
Adam Keir
John Shaul
David Barton

Stick:
Robert Pond
Caleb McFarland

Kenny - All good candidates ..........But you didn't include yourself ! ! !

Re: Fastest A/SA - A/S Car

John Shaul's car is awesome and Steve Hagberg still outran him by almost 7 hundredths at Indy. He had 4-8 hundredths on Mattingly and Bruce Noland as well. Not sure what car could outrun Hagberg heads-up in A/SA.

Re: Fastest A/SA - A/S Car

Clark Holroyd's A/S Nova was awful impressive @ Vegas Pts. race. That was his 1st time out in a long time. I think he went 10.13 with 1.46 60' I was up there with him each run and he was spinning his a** off.

Bruce Noland 12-15-2014 03:44 PM

Re: Fastest A/SA - A/S Car

Keir's car is the east coast equivalent of McClanahan's car on the west coast. McClanahan's 9.57 in AA/SA is still the gold standard for these cars and probably a low 9.70 car in A/SA. John told me at Indy that he was no longer interested in running for class - "tired of beating my s**t up.". That may change now that the new cars are out of the regular classes.

Hill, like in Big Larry. At 3200 lbs with the driver and new Edlebrock heads, the Master of Manipulation will be a contender.

Re: Fastest A/SA - A/S Car

When and where did McClanahan go a 9.57 in AA/SA? Curious at to the weather and such.

Re: Fastest A/SA - A/S Car

Pomona 2013. Not sure about the air, but believe the car is capable of 9.40's in "good" Atco air.

MikeFicacci 12-15-2014 05:26 PM

Re: Fastest A/SA - A/S Car

I'm not sure I would call one pass the "gold standard" of a class. Rayburn is consistently fast posting 9.60s in pretty terrible air. Would be nice to have a shootout somewhere.

Re: Fastest A/SA - A/S Car

Play semantics or call it what you want. The boys running the 9.60's are definitely fast but they have to step it up to run 9.50's and so far McClanahan is the man with the golden number. It's there for the taking. So step right up!

Re: Fastest A/SA - A/S Car

Sorensen's Camaro can go as fast as it needs to. I'm a die-hard Mopar guy, but I don't think Little, Shaul, Hagberg, Wann, Hill, etc., can run with that 427.

Re: Fastest A/SA - A/S Car

I was told by someone who would know that Joe and Hal have been running a 396 lately. Not saying it is any slower than the 427.

I'd be fairly surprised if Bobby DeArmond was not able to step up and run deep in the nine second zone in A/SA if necessary.

This was at the Vegas National in October.. Standing on the starting to watch two Heavy hitters go at it. Hell of a race! Sorenson and DeFrank are very fast in any class they are in. I am pretty sure that Sorenson was running a 396

Lots of fast A/S cars I would also say Brett McFarland is very fast in that 68 camaro . And I know caleb can go deep in the 9's if he had too!! I think that a shoot out somewhere would be very cool . I can't wait to get mine done!

Don Little ( when he runs his car with the HEMI ) and Steve Calabro with the 69 Corvette.

The Sorensens! I've been watching them since I first started racing Stock. They know what they are doing for sure. I too am a Mopar guy but that is one beautiful Camaro. Many of us were glad when they started racing Super Stock but now it seems like they're back! Oh well, they're nice guys...

Re: Fastest A/SA - A/S Car

Given Bobby's successes, he would be on the short list for the fastest of these cars. I can not speak for him but I gather that he is very happy to compete at select races since he retired. He was the first in the 9's at sea level and also set the AA/SA record a few years ago. But, as he is fond of saying, "drag racing is an addiction for which there is no known cure." He may be out there laying down 9.50's this spring.

I think Chris Howes ran some 10.0s at B weight with his Hemi Challanger. He could be a player if he comes back out in A.

Jim Boudreau went a 10.02 at the Dutch in B!

Re: Fastest A/SA - A/S Car

Since the later model cars will have their own class next year they really dont count on that list. If your counting pre 08 cars the LS cars are the fastest with a stick hands down.

Kevin

Didn't you go a 10.02 at Indy of all places a couple of years ago??? That was in "B" correct?? Wonder what it would run at True "A" weight??

RJ, I bet Caleb's car could go 9.60s in A/S at good air easily.

Pup

I don't doubt it at bit. There are quite a few cars that are really fast, be nice to have a non-AFHS Showdown somewhere.....like Belle Rose.

Re: Fastest A/SA - A/S Car

9.60's is very attainable in good air. The problem with the Camaro is to even run B you have to run the flat hood which at the time was 7 HP more. I was 275 lbs heavy for A then.

I would like to include Hank Nordstroms Hemi Cuda here very fast with Dave Schmitz and Don Little power

I will have to put the Candies drag pak in this mix. With all the other cars they have this one gets forgitten about. I'm sure if they wanted to jump up in the mix they could at anytime. ;)

Tom Nolans A/SA Thunderbolt just might be a pretty quick car ,if he wants it to be lol:)

Re: Fastest A/SA - A/S Car

Also Greg Raucher's T-Bolt....he's been 10.00's at 134 with poor 60's. He'll run deep in the 9's with some 1.25 60's..

Joey,

That isn't an A/SA car anymore it's an FS car now.

The 419 rating on the 427/425 is for the manual transmission only.
