Thinking about buying a Cobra Jet Have some questions
I'm just getting back into racing after about 10 years away. I sold my business so now I have time and to play. Really want to buy a cobra jet. But not sure if I want to start with a low 9 second car. What are the NA motor combo's you can run in these car's ? I was poking around on the net and came across a guy named Robert Hindman he has a cobra jet with a coyote motor in it. I would be interested in a combo like his. I heard that car runs mid 10s. Please give as much input as you can. Thanks

I have a 2014 for sale in the classified section. I've raced them for several years and will be more than happy to answer any questions.....

I love these cars and they are well built!

Re: Thinking about buying a Cobra Jet Have some questions
Steven's is a very nice, very fast car. I love those Mustangs, and if I decided to buy one it would be Steven's. If your serious, you really need to look at that one.

Not looking for opinions on what car I should buy. Looking for information on the different motor combos.

Cobra jet 5.0 if I'm not mistaken Stephen offered to talk and explain them to you. I'd give him a call. After you could determine if his was for you. As he has knowledge on the different combos being involved with them for some years. Best luck on your decision when you iron it out and get your own.

Re: Thinking about buying a Cobra Jet Have some questions
Up near the top of this page is a link to Nhra Competition, press that, then on the left side of the page that comes up, look for stock car classification, then you can go to 2008 to 2014 ford engine -mustang cobra jet combinations. George Wright and Jimmy Ronzello built Roberts car and you can find pictures at 9500rpm.com under shop projects.

Re: Thinking about buying a Cobra Jet Have some questions
The naturally aspirated combination is really good. Ford only built three of them in 2013. I'm not sure if any of the 2014 cars were built that way.

Re: Thinking about buying a Cobra Jet Have some questions
If you are thinking about purchasing a car that requires a license, it would be wise to make sure that you can pass the physical first. I only say this because you had quit racing for 10 years, and sold a business, leading me to believe that you may be older. Not being cynical, just trying to help.

Re: Thinking about buying a Cobra Jet Have some questions
Robert Hindman's car is a 2012 built by George Wright and Jimmy Ronzillo.
NA combinations 2010; 4.6 3v modular that uses the Mustang GT shortblock, FRPP CNC Mustang GT heads, FRPP intake and FRPP cams.(Charles Downing runs one) 352ci pushrod based off of the FRPP crate engine. It uses the 302 Windsor block.(several out there and is one of more attractive factored combos Sam Tufano, brian Wolfe, holbrook, the Richards crew) 428ci pushrod basses off of the FRPP crate engine. It uses the 351 Windsor based block. (Several out there also Roger Cook, Chris Holbrook, Richards crew) 2012; 5.0 coyote modular. Uses Mustang GT heads, cams and intake. Pistons have a little more compression then the factory Mustang GT(Robert Hindman's) 2013 5.0 coyote engine. Uses Boss 302 heads, FRPP Cams and intake and the higher compression Pistons from the 2012.(platt, Charles Downing) Pushrod combos more revisions and 363/427(Richards group, Bo Butner) 2014: Carry over from 13 except for pushrod is now a d3 head 429 with FRPP intake(cook, Bo Butner) Now do you want to build a combo or buy a turn key model? Do you want a turn key from Ford Racing or one some one built? What's your preference on maintenance and ET? |
Re: Thinking about buying a Cobra Jet Have some questions
There are factory VIN car combos in the guide also but aren't factored as favorably as the Factory Cobra Jet combos.

Re: Thinking about buying a Cobra Jet Have some questions
If you are wanting to stay out of 9s and needing to get a license then you're looking at the 3v, 5.0, 352, 363 combinations. BUT it's a matter of time before these guys eventually make it there also. The 3v is the furthest away but is factored softer then the 2012 5.0.
I should say was factored softer. I haven't looked at the NA combos since the NHRA separated the classes. We are considering building a 352 combination for a friend in the shop. |
Re: Thinking about buying a Cobra Jet Have some questions
No I'm not older. I am only 48 just worked very hard from the time I was 17. I have no wife or kids. I did very well with my business and was able to sell it and retire at a fairly young age. Plus I am in very good shape for a guy 48. I never smoked and drink very little and I watch what I eat and work out. Plus I already have a valid NHRA License. Made sure I kept it up to date.

Re: Thinking about buying a Cobra Jet Have some questions
I have a NHRA license already. I kept it up to date. I am only thinking about starting out with a slower car. Then step up to a faster car. Just want to get some seat time. I have never driven a really fast small tire car so don't want to go out there and make an *** out of my self and end up on my lid. I plan on starting with a slower car then buy a 2nd car for me to run and let me nephew drive the slower car.

Yes I have a phone wise guy. I don't like to bother people. If I was going to defiantly buy his car I would call him. I have found a few closer to me that are for sale. Just wanted to hear what the guys on hear had to say.

Re: Thinking about buying a Cobra Jet Have some questions
We are building a 2012 Cobra Jet right now with the 5.0 NA engine. We also wanted a car in the 10-11 second bracket. If I was doing it from scratch again I would probably go with the 2013-14 for the better intake and throttle body but I think ours will work out just fine. There is 25 HP difference and fewer cars running our combo. You can PM me if you have any specific questions.
