drive shaft sensor 12 bolt rear?
I need to hook up a sensor and magnets on my 12 bolt rear. Will a collar fit? There isnt much room on the rear yoke as a 9" ford has. Looking for ideas maybe a couple of pictures. Thanks.

Re: drive shaft sensor 12 bolt rear?
There's room if you use a aftermarket pinion yoke. I have a strange yoke on my 12 bolt and the collar that I used from racepak fit; but it doesn't have a whole lot of clearance. I have about 50 thousands to spare and that;s it. One thing I had to do was open up the collar as it was too small for the yoke. Hope tis helps. Bill.

Do yourself a favor and put it on the front , it is a whole lot more accessible.M.J

Bill, I have an aftermarket moser yoke. Its very tight. How did you mount the bracket to the housing? I have even less room on the front.

Re: drive shaft sensor 12 bolt rear?
use the set up from a 9 inch Ford housing--- find a convienent place to install the pick up holder---drill and tap a 5/16 hole in the 12 bolt housing to mount the pick up holder install the ring and set the air gap on the pick up -- when you are finished with the whole thing it will look somewhat like a MSD crank trigger set up --FED 387

Re: drive shaft sensor 12 bolt rear?
On my dana 44 I drilled 2 1/8" holes in the web and mounted an aluminum bracket to hold the pickup.

Re: drive shaft sensor 12 bolt rear?
I have a MW rear yoke and a computech 9" collar on it, made a bracket for the pickup off one of the webs on the center section. I previously had the collar on my OEM yoke I just had to take off the seal shield and round out the square area.
computech has 2 sizes of collars and I cant recall 100% but I think I have the larger diameter on my yoke. |
Re: drive shaft sensor 12 bolt rear?
I had Simpson machine a yoke with all the clearances so I could use the Racepak collar. As others have done, I made an aluminum mount for the pickup and bolted it to the lower webbing. I also have some adjustability so the pickup is square to the collar magnets. Still have the template I think.

Thanks for the replies guys. I should have no problem mounting the collar then.

Re: drive shaft sensor 12 bolt rear?
I have a Racepak collar for sale that fits the 12 bolt.
Worked for me for several years on my 12 bolt. Fits on the dust shield. |
Re: drive shaft sensor 12 bolt rear?
Drew, you have a P.M.

Re: drive shaft sensor 12 bolt rear?
Im using an Ultimate ll tach wih the tach facts software. Can I use an eight magnet collar or do I have to use a two magnet one. What are the benefits of the eight magnet one?

Quote:
With most sensors, of this type, every time the magnet passes the sensor, the magnetic field generates a pulse. With two magnets, it would generate two pulses per revolution. Eight magnets would generate 8 pulses per revolution. The sensor does not care how often a magnetic field passes it. The problem is that the data logger, in your case the tachometer, is going to assume that two pulses are one revolution. So, with 8 magnets, your driveshaft is going to show that it is spinning 4 times faster than it actually is. |
Re: drive shaft sensor 12 bolt rear?
Thanks for explaining Tom. Just ordered the 2 magnet collar.
