Adware Redirects on Classracer??
 

Am I the only one getting hit by malicious redirects on this site? It's happening regularly now; when a thread starts to open, suddenly I get redirected to a page telling me to download the latest update or some crap, which is obviously an attempt to install malware on my machine. Ken, any ideas? It only happens on Classracer, I haven't seen it on any other sites.

On my computer, when you go to open a thread, it goes to a ad for Zales. It did it twice yesterday and only on ClassRacer site. J. Gower M/S 3058

Same here. I understand all the legitimate race oriented advertising Ken has on here. But the Google ads that have nothing to do with racing are where these redirects are coming from. Is it really worth hosting these ads. How many people on here are going to click one of them and switch to Gieco?

Adware and spyware is not necessarily classracer's fault. A user can inadvertently allow adware access to your browser through many sources. This link is a good description of steps you can take to remove adware from your computer if you are using Internet Explorer:

If you are using firefox, Chrome or a MAC, you are on your own.

Guys, what I would try 1st is go to downloads.com and download malwarebytes anti malware, whatever it finds quarantine it then delete it.
2 do a system restore, just simply restore ur computer back a few days before u recognized this problem.3. clik stat button and go to control panel and look for ur programs folder and what ever looks odd in that folder google it and read if u need it or not if u don't hit the uninstall button. 4 u should see something u didn't ask for in those steps, right them down and if need be u will need some assistance going to ur registry and cleaning it out for good. I can help u there if u need it. hope this helps.
also make sure u have ur popup blocker on and set ur computer up in internet properties to medium high under the security tab. and medium under privacy. while ur there under the general tab clik delete ur browser history also.

Back when I was using Internet Explorer, I went to Settings -> Internet Options -> Security -> Restricted Sites and added:
ad.doubleclick.net
ads.pointroll.com
http:/googleads.g.doubleclick.net
view.atdmt.com


I use Google Chrome as my primary browser, and I'm not having any pop-ups or redirects. Can't even remember if I did anything special in Chrome, just check to make sure you have at least the phishing and malware protection enabled:

Menu -> Settings -> Show Advanced Settings -> under Privacy, it should have the "Enable phishing and malware protection" checked.

I also have MalwareBytes.

Using Firefox, Adblock Plus, Stop Sign /E- Acceleration anti-virus.
No problem here

Some members are having issues, and I have contacted all ad campaigns about this issue. I will make some changes today. Please let me know if the issues have stopped.

"Open Software Updater" is the name of the redirect that I keep getting. It happened again as I opened this thread.

I have been assured that its not coming from any ad campaigns. I will look further into upgrading the server, but I think as Dwight said it may not be a Class Racer issue. I have tried all browsers and I can get any redirects.

Has never done this on my home computer (chrome with e-sept) but lots of times on my I-Phone

Only issues I have seen have been on my iPhone. Doesn't happen all the time...maybe 1/3 the time.

It was doing it on my computer a few days ago and then stopped. Just started again this evening. Using the latest version of Firefox, Eset Smart Security and have run Malware Bytes.

It's a tagalong that's installed on your computer. Bring up the software uninstall screen in the Control Panel and look for software that was installed around the time the problem first showed up on your computer. Unless it's something you know you wanted to install, get rid of it.

I have never gotten a redirect on Classracer. I am using Internet Explorer, the Internet Explorer popup blocker, and Norton 360 Internet Security.

I don't and haven't had this problem on this site using Google Chrome and Microsoft Security Essentials. Mots of these type problems can be fixed in Google Chrome settings> My fiance gets these all the times playing games on Facebook but I don't have the problem here at the office or on my laptop.

I had the redirect problem a couple weeks ago and it turned out to be a video downloading utility that I didn't even remember installing. Unfortunately, I was so glad to get rid of it that I didn't bother to write the name down.

I personally have never had any adware ads or anything like that pop up or redirect me otherwise in this forum. its not the class racer site. I would try uninstalling chrome first, then reinstalling it. ive read people saying internet explorer is not giving them this redirect. Symantec offers a free scan u can try. but the best way to get rid of this in my opinion would be to go into ur registry and find the locations and files its tied itself too. I can help do that if anyone needs assistance.

Just spent 2hours with norton getting my virus removed , screen we blank after clicking on false update while checking live from winternationals. My bad I guess

The software updater deal is what I'm getting as well and its still happening tonight. Even though I took my laptop in to get it looked at today. I guess I will take it back and let them have another shot at it tomorrow. Whoever comes up with this crap should be severely beaten with a baseball bat TWICE. Once for coming up with it. And if they survive, a second time so they remember to never do it again. They are seriously screwing with my ability to look at my favorite website.

I've switched over to Chrome in the last few days and haven't seen the redirects again...yet. In addition to the steps Dave mentioned, I've had good success in the past removing this garbage by going to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com
