Trouble surfing Class racer
I remember seeing a thread a couple months ago with people having to click and then wait...and wait....and wait.. Well it was happening to me too and it seemed some "more computer savy than me" types were working on it. It has been so bad I haven't been back since Christmas or so. To get this thread started has taken me 13 minutes of click......go do something...click....
This happens at my home computer and the computer at work as well. I called a buddy who's not into racing to try this link and he said he waited like 5 minutes then gave up. Anybody got any idea's?? Was a solution found for those have issue navigating Class racer? (if this even posts..) |
Re: Trouble surfing Class racer
I have to set my security setting to high to block a pop up add by "genius box " and because of that it slows everything but not as bad as yours. This site and ebay are the only ones this comes up on.

Re: Trouble surfing Class racer
I was having a bunch of problems too. Someone suggested Adblock a couple of weeks ago. Its a free download. It has been smooth sailing ever since.

Re: Trouble surfing Class racer
6 minutes and 18 seconds to get this point...I d/l adblock, no difference. I'll try the security setting but I don't understand why it only this site, NO OTHER on the internet that is giving me issues.
DAMN this is annoying! |

Re: Trouble surfing Class racer
Download Malwarebytes and clean up your computer.
You will be amazed how much junk has been stored from various sites. www.malwarebytes.org/ |

Re: Trouble surfing Class racer
Thanks guys, I d/l that malwarebytes and it took out 228 "issues" I had but after rebooting as per the instructions....same thing. Now I will say it was quicker, maybe 30 seconds instead of several minutes but there must be something else as well.
Random thought, is anybody else still using XP or am I the only hold out (read too cheap to get a new computer cause this thing can't operate any newer op system) Basically I click on Classracer and the home page comes up, but if I click on anything (S/SS, S/SS tech, Clas racer builds, etc) it takes minutes to load and says "waiting for http://classracer.com/classforum/forumdisplay.php?f=58... Just noticed another difference, when I finally do get to the thread page and click on a thread, it comes up normal..it's just the main page that is causing issues, now anyway. So, would XP factor into it at all or no? And why is it more than just my home computer doing this? The one at work and my buddies does the same thing?? |

Also, use Firefox in lieu on Internet Explorer. |
Re: Trouble surfing Class racer
I still use XP. No problems, other than the infrequent warnings about blocking a download.
|
Re: Trouble surfing Class racer
Nothing wrong with XP...tried and true warhorse.
|
Re: Trouble surfing Class racer
If your using Internet explorer on XP you will have problems
Get a new web browser installed and use it instead. Google chrome works well |

Also, Microsoft stopped all supporting XP a year ago. Therefore, by modern protocols, is not secure. It lacks ASLR that prevents vulnerabilities and hacking. Also, there are no Oracle JAVA updates that work well with XP; therefore, there are many applications and websites that will not work unless you have the latest version of JAVA. This said, it will perform poorly when accessing many sites. Oracle updates JAVA frequently, however, like I said, the new updates are not compatible with XP. I suggest for anyone that still has XP, to run the disk cleanup feature to see if it helps. (Right-click, C Drive/ Properties/ Disk cleanup) Also, the computer may have too many programs and services that are auto-loading and running in the background. Windows XP does not have the capacity anymore to do so and it's one primary reason for complaints of slowness. |
Re: Trouble surfing Class racer
The bad thing about Windows 7 is that all of your old software Quicken, outlook, datafacts will not run on Windows 7.....
Bill gates is a pretty smart guy to make your software obsolete... 30 years ago when Mac came out, all of the Apple programs wouldn't run on a Mac......... Just opening up a revenue new stream........ and by the way it's called planned obsolescence Bob |
Re: Trouble surfing Class racer
Much of my computer tuning software doesn't work well with 7.

If you have Windows 7 or a newer version, you can use Microsoft's Application Compatibility Toolkit. If you have Windows 7, you can also download Windows XP Mode which allows you to run older versions of programs designed for XP, to run in Windows 7. They are free Microsoft utility programs that will allow older programs to be compatible with newer versions of Windows. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...s.aspx?id=7352 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...e-in-windows-7 |

Re: Trouble surfing Class racer
No animosity directed towards you personally SSDiv6...I just disagree with the bashing the often maligned XP operating system receives. Truth is the vast majority of businesses still operate on XP...disclaimer being the bulk of their work is for internal use. In this case familiarity does not breed contempt...it simply works.
The Vista OS was introduced to address those threats you cited earlier and was somewhat successful. Vista is a fine OS, but was ill received by the masses partly due simply because it was a change to what we were familiar with. The larger issue was the limited hardware built-in to the pc's sold to the masses which sadly continues to the present time...minimal memory installed is a sure fire way to cripple anything. Win 7 is a wonderful OS, but in reality just Vista refined. Win 8...oh boy. A corporate exercise to capitalize upon the growing mobile device trend. Problem here is it just does not translate well with the casual pc user. Sure, there are multiple workarounds to make it more user friendly, but many question why am I having to jump thru hoops. Expect another incarnation shortly. Long story short...the simple act of using a pc on the internet these days is a war on your system. There are a good many folks out there trying to counteract the threats with varied success. I understand for the bulk of people out there one cannot simply throw up their hands in surrender...we just want to use our computers as intended. I classified those programs attempting to counteract threats earlier as bandaides...reality dictates that is exactly what they are. Yes, using them will somewhat extend the life of your operating system, but the fix is often just as intrusive as the threat. I personally resigned myself long ago to just wipe/re-install my OS when it all became unbearable. :) |
Re: Trouble surfing Class racer
Wow, thanks for all the info guys. SSdiv6 and Rich, thanks especially to you two, I'll try the disc clean up then possibly reinstall and see if something works. For now I'm opening classracer on two different windows and read one then when I click, switch to the other and read until I click, switch back and by then it's loaded..wash, rinse, repeat. LOL!
Oh, and I was already told my system is too small/weak/whatever to operate anything newer than XP so I'd need a new computer and that ain't in the future anytime soon... Thanks again guys |

Re: Trouble surfing Class racer
It would be a great help to many I'm sure if there were a small section on the forum to go for assistance/tips/tweaks computer related....it is after all how we all arrive here. Bound to be lots of tech savvy members willing to advise.

At my place of employment, due to the nature of the products we produce, we test systems and software on a daily basis. Therefore, we migrated all our systems to Windows 7 and have not switched to any of the other available newer products because their issues and security constraints. If Microsoft had continued supporting the XP system, we would have kept it. The company has a Hacker contest every year and we end hiring the winners of the contest for the cyber security IT group to protect our data. |
