Larry Hill's V/S Chevy PU
I just read the article in the latest National Dragster about 6 cylinder cars does Anybody have any more info on this truck. It's the 4.3 motor right. What tranny ect. Those are pretty amazing times it ran. Just curious.

Re: Larry Hill's V/S Chevy PU
86 4.3 v6 with Jerico transmission.
Indy horsepower was 155. After factoring it's at 182 and natural r/s. What other info do you want? |
Re: Larry Hill's V/S Chevy PU
If it is not top secret, what kind of horse power does one of these 4.3's make. BTW ya gotta love a truck! Don Jackson.

Its a secret at our house.

Re: Larry Hill's V/S Chevy PU
Lol, I understand what you are saying. Did I mention I love the truck?

Re: Larry Hill's V/S Chevy PU
If you want to get an idea, consider that it weighs around 3500 lb and ran around 100 mph at Indy. There are websites with formula calulators that will attached a hp figure to those numbers. Not exact, but at least give you a lower limit. Oh, and consider that it has all the aerodynamics of a UPS truck.

Re: Larry Hill's V/S Chevy PU
Best mph 106.65 second round at Indy.

Re: Larry Hill's V/S Chevy PU
That truck is amazing ! A full size truck with a stock V6 running in the 12s. I don't think anyone else will ever run that far under the index.
I can hardly wait to see what he has planned for the 70th U S Nationals. |
Re: Larry Hill's V/S Chevy PU
Chris that's why I posted. Just real impressed by the truck. I ran a light flywheel 11lbs. In my 4100 Impala with the 396/325 which goes against what some people think. Do you run a heavy flywheel 30lbs?

Re: Larry Hill's V/S Chevy PU
Will, thanks for the heads up on the article. Compared to the other racers in the article I should be listed on the back page under the heading of "other racers that have raced a six cylinder". Perry, Ambrose,Daniels, Ingersoll, and the rest are great racers. I have to admit that Garley Daniels and Gary Jennings have been a big help since we first built the truck.
The truck has a clutch and flywheel system recommend by Gene Bichlmeier: big heavy flywheel, McLoud softlock clutch, and a deep gear in the back. Make et on the low end 'cause its not going to do it on the top end. Engine is a back yard bullet with help from CP, Total Steal, Chris@ Comp, John@ Bullet, Bridges, Marshal, Van Lant, and Wingo. Machine work by Frank @ Tommy's Truck prep and clutch linkage by Gary Jennings, he is quite the craftsman. Brain trust and coaches: Jennings, Danny Byrd, Keven Helms, and Jim Schaechter. Race pack computer tutor: Randy Eakins Hp of the V6 just a little north of 320. |

Re: Larry Hill's V/S Chevy PU
Yes Larry I have been around 6 cylinders with my brother Ed running a V/SA 68 Nova in the eighties. Also Clem LaChance "Mad Frenchman" 6 Ford Maverick H/MP later C/SX. That Jerico 4 Speed is some tranny too. I made 100 passes in my 4000 lb Impala never broke. I had Soft Lok too. Yes my 396/325 is sort of a backyard build too with no real "tricks" CP. Bullit can "old" Shubecks s290 Heads still made 490 using slide rule. Same motor going into my 65 Impala.
Thanks for the info. Will |

Re: Larry Hill's V/S Chevy PU
No bigger cheer at the Nats than rd 1 win, at least I think it was rd 1
|
Re: Larry Hill's V/S Chevy PU
Think about all of us, myself included, who were listening in on-line and cheering for the truck on every pass ! Great story for sure.

Re: Larry Hill's V/S Chevy PU
I go to Indy every year, so I was able to see Larry's truck in person. To say that it was impressive would be an understatement!
