Probably are discontinued since GM is offering the Vortec Bowtie heads which are light years over the older Bowtie heads.

I have 1 head new. It is out of box but has never been touched. I would like to give it a new home.

Firebird…Try Reher-Morrison's. They might have some "upstairs". Good Luck…MB.

What pistons can i run with the vortex heads----i have Mahle dome pistons with my rotating assembly. Is it wise to machine them to fit?

Re: cast iron bowtie

Firebird, an experienced machinist will have a fixture to measure the piston dome/top thickness. If you can machine to the needed dimension and have enough thickness remaining it will be fine to do so.

I "think" it has been said the Vortec is best with very small or no dome.

I do not know the min thickness needed but figger someone will help with that.

You can use the large port Bowtie Vortec cylinder head or the approved Dart Cast Iron head.

Re: cast iron bowtie

Firebird, in that situation I expect you will want a piston specific to the head you decide to run.

You should contact Randy or Michael Mans.
They held the record many times in the class with the Bowtie Vortec heads.
They also flogged and tested every cylinder head in the market and stayed with the Bowtie Vortec.

Do a search were Michael speaks about his experiences with the different heads for SS/CS.

DO NOT USE vortec bowtie heads!!!!!!!!!! Ask me how many sets I have seen cracked for my SS/CS customer.
