"Live" from Norwalk Division 3 LODRS

Just pulled into Linders Lot at 12:30 and I'm #171 to be parked. The lot looks good -not too soggy. Weather is perfect with clear blue skies and mid 60s. Forcast for the weekend is getting better with no washout expected.

D-3 is producing the strongest car counts of any division. D-1 used to be comparable but it looks like D-3 is king of the car counts now.

The Summit Motorsports Park Staff has a good process going - selling the credentials in the order of arrival. They even have a PA system in the lot to instruct everyone what to do and when it will happen. Nice.

Parking has started!

Re: "Live" from Norwalk Division 3 LODRS

The parking went very smooth - me #171 - was inside and parked by 2:45. It seemed like 2/3 of those in Linders Lot were Super cars and headed to the west or grassy pits. The east side or asphalt pits were beginning to fill in by 5:00. The sunny skies were replaced by a complete cloud cover by 4:00. KB Trailer Sales and Vintage Trailers was having a Racer Appreciation dinner tonite with dogs and burgers.

The COPO Camaros are here early - Boburka and Novosel with a couple of Division cars too. Racing starts Friday morning with S/ST out first followed by Stock.

That's it for tonight.

Hats off to the Baders for a very well organized credentials and pitting procedure. I was number 179 and the wait was not that long considering the number of racers ahead of me.The Norwalk experience is usually worth the trip.

Several big lines in Linder's Lot, but registration was a breeze here at Summit Motorsports Park, Norwalk, OH, for the NHRA Div. 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Cavalcade of Stars, always the biggest spectator attended LODRS in the country. We have a challenging forecast for the weekend, but no one works harder (as they proved here last year).

Big thanks to the folks from KB Trailers and Vintage for the great racer appreciation feed tonight, as well as Performance By Fisher Top Dragster Reveal Party.

I typed a big long thing, and my phone wiped it out before I could post it. -=sigh=- Short version, it's raining, slept in, redid all the Volare contingecy and sponsor decals last night, and might get some new M/T's if it lets up a little.

Good morning. It's raining.

The forecasts call for this rain cell to pass by 10-11:00 am. I drove in from Michigan this morning and it rained the entire trip.

Today's "Cavalcade of Stars" schedule is full with 2 runs planned for all classes and the "show" starting at 6:00. Schedule adjustments are likely - stay tuned.

I believe that's an oxymoron...at least if you are at a drag race.

Re: "Live" from Norwalk Division 3 LODRS

There was a little window and the crew was proactive, working the track with brooms and blowers, but the back side of the cell just caught up with us. Rain has resumed.

Got some more decal work done, taking the old single-color cut vinyl M/T decals off of Terry's trailer that I made him in 2005, and replaced them with the full color printed ones that I just took off the Volare last night! Gotta love reusable decals. :-) I made some bigger ones for my car.

Getting some new M/T's mounted during the downtime.

Coming down pretty good now...

Re: "Live" from Norwalk Division 3 LODRS

Bad afternoon. After about an hour of track drying a rain cell hit and wiped out much of the progress. So Mike Fuller, John Dinkel and I headed out to lunch. We're sitting in town and can see blue skies heading in from the west

A second jet dryer from IRP is here and was ready to fire up when that last rain hit.

Racing should be going by 2:30 - 3;00.

Re: "Live" from Norwalk Division 3 LODRS

Just about 1 round of everything Is complete. The weather is cooperating and we may just get the second qualifying run that has been moved to the "Show". It's 7:00 and the alcohol cars are ready to go. Because of the rain delay all the classes lost 1 run today.

The day has been incident free. There is a strong tail wind and the barometer is hovering close to 29.0 - the DA 2200+ feet. Temps are in the high 70s.

No drama to report from the first qualifying session

A number of class cars came in this afternoon - and there is still pit space on the asphalt.

Yep, got Q1 in for both Stock and Super Stock. Pretty stiff crosswind, moved me around a bit in SS, but not in Stock. Just depends on when it gusts.

They'e in TA/D now, and have called all the Harley classes and PS Snowmobile.

Re: "Live" from Norwalk Division 3 LODRS

Stock finished its Q2 run about 9:15. About 3/4 of the cars made it down the track while it was still light out before there was an interruption for a clean up. The tailwind died and the barometer was just a few hundredths lower. As part of the "Show", the Stocker wheel stands were judged by a panel of fan judges. Mike Fuller in his B/SA Camaro had the longest distance - not sure who was the winner of the style award.

80+ Stockers are here. Chris Holbrook was #1 after Q1 @ -1.14.

S/S had been called to the lanes but the Super Category semis were to be run first.

I was looking through the qualifying for stock and found something amazing. It shows Bob Michael in K/SA at .7 under in a 1962 Grand Prix. I assume that is a typo, or what combo does he run in that car???

Thank you Mike for all the updates. Was the longest wheelstand past the 60' clocks? I heard he had to make a steering correction fast when it came down.... Any photos?

According to the qualifying data, which should match the tech card, it's a '62 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 389. Since I know zip about what class that puts him in, you now know everything I know.

Ron, It's a 389 ,Tri power 318 factory hp rating.
It went 11.77 a couple weeks ago at Indy.

A couple of photos before heading back to the track. Btw, the signal at the track is weak so posts are a struggle. Norwalk is famous for its $1.00 pound of Ice Cream. The line can get very, very long

Quick update from the track. Some light showers passed thru the area early this morning. The jet dryer is running at 8:12 and the skies are clear. Racing starts at 9:00.

Good Luck this weekend Mike. I know the cell phone signal has always been an issue at the track. Standing on top of someone RV helps. I don't think it matters what provider you have either.

Now for the news that matters. Stock and S/S will not get the Q3 run and will go directly into round 1 at mid day. S/S got their Q2 run done by around 10:30 last nite.

S/ST just got called to the staging lanes followed by S/G.

They're catching up with Q2 for SST, SG, SC, and then we'll go into E1 of Stock and Super Stock. Any new entries today will be put on the bottom of the sheet.

Ran a number of SST, now down for just an itty bitty sprinkle. Should pass.

Mark, thanks for the info. That car has to be one of my favorite stockers out there, now that I have seen a picture of it. The cool factor has to be pegged. Any idea how much the car weighs?? It can't be light. I remember a friend having one of them back in the day.

In Super Gas Q2, and one more rain cell has hit, but it has reportedly lost a lot of its intensity before getting to us. Still, it's enough that we're on hold and it will require drying. I believe they said tech is open til noon, so they have yet to post ladders.

Re: "Live" from Norwalk Division 3 LODRS

It's raining at 10:42. Had progressed about half way thru S/G when a steady shower hit. This will require jet dryer work to get the track back

First round of Stock and S/S are scheduled to go after S/C Q2 which had just been called to the lanes when the rain hit.

Mike Fuller won the Stocker wheel stand contest last nite - both highest and longest- and pocketed $200 for his performance

Rich Rinke set the FS/D record - it was a minimum - you can pick up his time off the Drag Central sheets.

Rain has stopped and track drying is in process. And "Disco Duck" is playing over the PA as a backdrop to the track drying equipment. That could be an annoying ear worm for the day. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...pshwrohcgy.jpg

Cell signal has gone away... Will try to post S/SS ladders, but if I can't get them to post, you can get them on www.facebook.com/LooseRocker

Several cars came in, shuffling the ladders, freeing up some from heads up runs, but putting others together. Make sure you check for your opponent and the first three designated pair.
