Looks like it's time for the D-1 guys to break out the old shirts.

Re: Any one live from epping
Good morning , well I really shouldn't say this but its dry out this morning ,overcast but dry. Seems like the George Washington bridge barrier must have been up again as car count from the other side of the bridge is close to non existent again. Couple records were set . I believe I/SA and the F/SA of course pending tech. Try to get you more later.

Re: Any one live from epping
I explained this a few weeks back when I was asked a question about this event and I personally think that it's just on a bad weekend and too much going on. I think if they could make the open in a spot close to the divisional or national event at Epping the car counts would be slightly larger. People could leave their stuff there to save on travel. Going to Virginia twice in three weeks put a hurting on A LOT of people's wallets (Still think that should be a D2 race and might with Rockingham back in the mix and SGMP going to IHRA). Then you take into account this weekend, Norwalk D3 event from what I was told is an event that you must attend at least once, Atlanta National & The Flings down in Bristol. Now I know the Flings is a bracket race and that's a different type of racers but, Kyle & Pete put on a show and I know a few of my association guys went down there for the weekend to race. The .90 guys would have had a warm-up race at Maple Grove if I felt the track was ready but, thought it was n better interest to move it to September.
Also to be quite honest the Opens really have no "Wow" anymore for people unless you want a grade point. It used to be in the day, the northerners only had Leb Valley to gain a point if they wanted to go to a National so the migrated down South to gain a point at E-town or Atco, now with New England having 2 grade point events, Naperville and LV they don't have to travel to get into big events. I mean you can get into a National Event with a 3 or 4 when you needed to be on the computer at 12pm sharp 15 years ago with a grade 7 or you were on the outside looking in. Atco's National Open was bad also, weather could have been a factor but, I heard only 183 total cars so I think people are looking at different avenues or spending time with family instead of racing. Hopefully after that survey that was sent out we see some improvements for 2016 but, time will tell. |
