location of two step button in a stocker
Does the switch for the two step have to be mounted on the brake pedal or can you put it somewhere else, like on the shifter console?

Re: location of two step button in a stocker
Both N and I HRA changed rule a few years ago, and you must have 2 step activated by brake pedal. Can use electric switch on pedal or brake pressure switch.
I have a simple pressure switch, think from Jegs if I remember right, that is plumbed inline on a brake line. There are some really nice switches that are adjustable for brake pressure to activate/release also. I have a toggle switch for on/off so it does not effect my burnout. Some have a switch on shifter also, so it is only activated in low gear. I am running a Mallory ignition, and have an RPM window switch programmed, so if I hit brakes on top end, it does not activate. Good luck. Ken Stock 412 |

Thank,s Ken that's what I wanted to know

Re: location of two step button in a stocker
Ken I'm not trying to cause problems, as I see you are definitely trying to help. But what is to stop someone from deactivating their 2 step with the off/ on switch instead of the pressure switch. Say you created the required presuure to activate the 2 step, then just turned off the switch to launch? Don't get me wrong , I completely sympathize with not wanting the 2 step to come on at the wrong time, but wouldn't the switch let the 2 step release as well?

Yes, We run a two step switch on our brake pedal on our stocker..

Re: location of two step button in a stocker
Pretty simple fix....
Just wire the 2 step thru a Normally Open micro switch that is located to be closed when the shifter in Low Gear.... The 2 step will only activate in low gear... If you use have to start your burn out in Low Gear just put the pressure switch in the rear brake hydraulic circuit...... Bob |
Re: location of two step button in a stocker
Don't know if it's legal in stock classes but i use a momentary switch that I depress. I have a brake pressure switch and you have to hold the momentary switch for the 2 step to activate. Any time after launch I release the momentary switch and the 2 step doesn't activate if I get on the brakes down track. I had a toggle switch but it's easy to leave it on and have a stutter down track.
I have seen some mount a momentary switch on the brake pedal pad itself and only step on it during launch. |
Re: location of two step button in a stocker
Tim,
You have a valid point. Mine has a toggle switch on far side of shifter. I can reach it while strapped in, as I have to activate it after the burnout... Yes, guess you could do it that way. I showed the setup to tech when I first put it in, and they were good with it. Been thru tech several times since in last few years, without any issue. Where mine is located, and they type of heavy duty metal toggle switch I am using, I would think it would be hard to be accurate with it. And would be really easy for anyone to see... no way to hide what I was doing, if I tried this. Guess that was part of them saying it was ok. Tech did make me show them how everything worked the first time. There are other(better) ways to do it, as Bob pointed out. Guess its all up to tech official. Ken Stock 412 |

Ours is on the brake pedal, but I have never got comfortable using it. Guess it just takes practice and persistence.

Re: location of two step button in a stocker
Good points Ken. And very good idea to have tech look at it in advance . I understand what you are saying about a slow, notchy, or inconsistent action on some switches or toggles.

Re: location of two step button in a stocker
We put our switch on the brake pedal. I really like it just from a comfort standpoint. If you look at the photo of the button on Rich Taylor's car, ours is just about in the same spot.

Re: location of two step button in a stocker
I have an adjustable brake pressure switch plumbed into the front brake line close to the master cylinder. I have a toggle switch to energize the circuit after the burnout. I have the switch adjusted to activate about a hundred psi less than the brake pressure that I stage with. So it takes a lot of pressure to activate the two step. If you get it to come on down track you are probably sliding the tires. Just my .02
