"Live" from Rockingham Div.2 LODRS 2015
 

We arrived here just in time to get teched yesterday! As usual Division 2 personnel were all very nice and we had no problems getting parked and things all taken care of.


This morning it is already 74 degrees and sunny. We should be running time trial1 for the combo race shortly. That is a separate race to be all run today along with our qualifying runs for the divisional, too.


Our granddaughters, Aubrey and Reagan are here with us this weekend and also next weekend for Montgomery.

Stock and super stock combo cars just made their first run. Only 24 cars.

Cooter, will no more cars than are here, they are running ahead of schedule. We only have 27 stockers so far. They have already run 1 qualifying run and 2 rounds of the combo.


We got beat by Robbie Shaw in round 2 of the combo.

Are there people parked out where the burrs/thorny seed pods are yet, or is it too early in the year for the burrs to be on the grass?

I've only been there in Oct when they were plentiful.

There are lots of parking spots left. We are on pavement behind the tower so I haven't checked out the sand spurs. Stock just finished up their final qualifying for the day, but we are supposed to either get 1 or 2 tomorrow. They just announced they are going to try to complete the race tomorrow. With so few cars here, that shouldn't be a problem.

Well we made it in time to tech and get some gas, little grilling and now an adult beverage. Really need the beverage my 1 year old cried all the way here!
We're parked on the north 40 under the pines so come stop by and say hi if you're in the neighborhood. Plenty of good parking left also.

It is another beautiful day here at the Rock! It is overcast and 75 right now. They have called up super street and we are next. 2 time trials today and then run the race to completion! That sounds great to us! It will give us another day at the beach. Joe and Alice Tysinger are allowing us to follow them home and spend a few days in Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach! We already have a fishing trip scheduled for Tues. I know the grandkids are going to love it! Thanks Joe and Alice!

Stock has gotten both our qualifying shots for today. Next run is first round! A few sprinkles during the last run. Hopefully they will stay away.

Does Div 2 typically have low car counts? DRC only shows 25 SS cars?

Generally speaking they pull around the same numbers (or a bit higher) as D5 and D6. The Rockingham numbers though seem really low for what was expected. They didn't pull many .90 racers either.

Seems strange, but when they had it a Charlotte couple of years ago it was the same thing-low car count. I think they gave us 4 or 5 time trials then because of the low car count. I guess between 'crate motor' cars and mostly 1/8 mile tracks around here, there just is not enough interest.

When they had it at Charlotte there was a hurricane on the coast the same weekend. The real thing is that most D2 guys live way down south and won't travel this far unless they are really chasing points. Same thing for D1, they hardly show up to Dinwiddie so they certainly are not going another 3-4 hours to Rockingham. Another reason is it's not a real good facility, not even close.

I think with Maple Grove being last weekend (537 Cars) and E-Town next weekend (All full except for Super Gas) a lot of racers are going to stay close to home, The Rock needs to be one of those before or after Charlotte races kinda like how VMP was the weekend before Charlotte before this season so racers could just shoot to Charlotte after VMP. If you can work with the racers and make it a favorable trip for two weekends of racing they will show up.

Another thing that hurt car count was the reschedule of Montgomery for next weekend. I for one, just can not afford to race like I once was able to, and the back to back makes it even harder to do. That, along with the reputation that rockingham is not a very good facility and not ideal for fast cars is probably why a lot of .90 cars didn't show up

How about 9 Stk and 6 SS on the q sheet at IHRA race in Cordova.
Even racing for more money there since its a NItro Jam.
According to the thread from there, they are letting people come in this morning though because I guess the weather was pretty iffy the last few days.

I have some more pictures from Rockingham to post this morning. Saturday was a busy day with racing all day. Then we had some good hot dogs and cocktails on Saturday night. Then yesterday we drove over to Joe and Alice Tysinger's to spend a couple of days before going on to Montgomery.
