Live from Rising Sun, Maryland - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Hi gang - Well here we are again only this time its really, really nice at the track with temps in the low eighty range , low humidity and most of all - blue skies .Test n tune has just begun on the newly repaired Cecil County surface and that should make the fast car people happy .
Other news ------- would you believe there has been a Bob Bender sighting ????? That and he has brought along the 'fat girl'.Yeah , I know - to those who don't know thats not what we call Penny his wife but its his nickname for that huge white whale - his '70 Kingswood wagon that he races- all almost 2 1/2 tons of it .Welcome back Bob ! ! ! And Penny too ......... Believe it or not Ken is here this weekend for the second race in a row and has agreed to help out once again .........Hmmmmm - he must be planning on giving himself a huge Christmas bonus . Photos on their way from the test n tune asap ..............later . |

Lew, the weather is nice, warm but pleasant. The test and tune started about 2. Some cars were having issues with the starting line. I grab some shots early in the afternoon as people were getting teched and ready to test.
I'm headed back to the starting line to get some more photos, be back later. |

Test and tune is done for today. There were a few interesting cars testing today. Vic Cagnazzi was is his COPO, running in FS/E. I saw a few run in the high 9.80's. JC Beattie in his ATI COPO Super Stocker went 8.20.
A red record holding Camaro went a 10.12 in B along with an orange one that went 10.14. The red car had parts flying everywhere. Three converters, headers, and who know what else was changed. Just watching these guys work was wearing me out. It looks the battle for B at Indy will be brutal. Racing starts at 9am tomorrow. |

Almost forgot my in car camera video. Here is Jeff Bardekoff driving Fred Palumbo's gorgeous 1964 Dodge 330 built and painted by Eric Bardekoff.

Re: Live from Rising Sun, Maryland - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Good morning boys and girls -Today is starting out just like yesterday - picture perfect without a doubt .And the next few will be more of the same .Yippee............
As Ken wrote last evening parts were flying everywhere yesterday as many racers are using this event as a tune-up for Bowling Green / Indy and this morning we'll find out more of whats in store for the next few weeks .As the evening came to a close the track really came around even though the air wasn't terrific (2400' @7:30 by my weather station)and the traction was at its best . This morning we are to start at 9:30 with everyone getting two shots at the 1/4 mile and I'm told the possibility of a third 'freebie' is on the table .I've also been told that racing on Saturday evening will not - repeat will not be done in the dark - all should be secure by 7:30 .I'll follow up on this news so everyone can make dinner plans .............. Back in a bit ............... |

Sorry for being MIA, been busy work on the race car. It can't be fixed here, so my weekend is over. Mostly like heading out tonight so I can start working on it.
I was able to get some photos waiting in the lanes and at the scales. I hope to get some more later before I head out. Jack will keep everyone informed. |
Re: Live from Rising Sun, Maryland - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Hi Jack
think you could get the Q sheet ? thanks |
Re: Live from Rising Sun, Maryland - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
If you can get a qualifying sheet, we could put in a good word for your XMAS Bonus
|
Re: Live from Rising Sun, Maryland - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
That sucks about your car, Ken-at least you are not too far from home. As always the pics are great and special thanks for the two shots of my lifelong pal and mentor John Kunsak in his new copo, finally getting his return to racing dialed in.

Re: Live from Rising Sun, Maryland - NHRA Lucas Oil Series
Thanks Scott, its not a major issue, just something stupid I did. I think the car does not like me anymore, ever since I starting driving the new Cobra Jets

Good morning kids - Another fine day in store for us here at Cecil County .This morning we'll have our final qualifing shot and early this afternoon its first round for all .As I mentioned yesterday we'll not be racing under the lights if possible so it'll be break out the Hibachi and the adult beverages tonight .
As Ken told you last evening he'll be on the road home so I'm left to keep you informed and I'll do my best without his help ..........once again ! ! ! |

Good morning all - No complaints again today as its going to be a perfect finish for this event weather wise .This afternoon temps are to reach mid-nineties but hopefully we'll be long gone before that happens .
Most classes are now in round three - and we are to start at 9:00 . And for those of you wondering - yes, I'm over last nights' breakage and am ready to move on to the next race - its just been one of those seasons . Back later ........... |

So you're feeling sorry for yourself about losing and then having to drive a few hours home - try this once - yesterday I got to spend some time with Stock racer Thomas Sundstrum and we talked about his 'commute' he must make when coming to our events .You see Thomas is from Sweden - yep, that Sweden .First he has to get to his local airport -then get a flight to Newark ,NJ - all 8 1/2 hours of it - then rent a car and drive to Jim Morgans shop to pick up his racer and then on to the track .But he says its worth it - coming to our races is what he wants .And compared to his job back home as a cell phone tower tech ( 1,000 feet high ) its a walk in the park !
Thomas qualified # 19 with his B/SA '68 Mustang ( which by the way has been a race car since 1990) and had a tough first round loss but is ready to come back - and can't wait for the Pennsylvania Dutch Classic to begin . PS - One last thing - a bit of trivia if you will - the next time you see a car with a number on their window that starts with an 8 they are not from the states - 8's are reserved for International competitors only . |
