Midwest Class Racers Make-A-Wish race Sept. 19-20

On Saturday, Sept 19th Thunder Valley Dragways along with Midwest Class Racers & Watertown Ford Chrysler, have invited 25 Make-A-Wish Families to the track for an exclusive VIP experience. Like last season, the Make-A-Wish kids can climb into the passenger seat of their favorite Stock or Super Stock car for the parade 'pass' down the track before eliminations begin.

Our challenge : raise $7500 to make one child's wish come true.

Our reward : the satisfaction of seeing the smiles on their faces because they got to ride in a race car down the track, get their photo taken with a driver, their shirt signed by a driver and the knowledge that we as a group helped make one childs Wish come true.

We'll post more info as we get closer to this event.

Thanks to Ken and Class Racer for letting us spotlight this event here.!

Re: Midwest Class Racers Make-A-Wish race Sept. 19-20

Update: We've already got a nice start on the donations needed to fund a wish for one special Make-A-Wish child.

The staff at Thunder Valley Dragway is going to make the donation process easier by letting the racers add their donation amount to their entry fee when they come through the gate. For example, if you wish to donate $100, just add that to the entry fee and the staff will direct your donation into the fund.

Like last year, the kids will be getting lots of goodies.....special t-shirts that drivers can autograph, meals and access to the VIP section of the tower. New this year will be some limo style golf carts to take the kids and their families around the pits.

More updates as we get closer to this.

This truly is a special race for a great cause! Last year a group of 10 children (and there families) melted the hearts of the crustiest racers with there smiles! The parade lap down the track was a huge hit for the kids and the racers. Please join us for 1 of the best races of 2015. MCR has set out a huge challenge to all racers to collect enough Money to fund a wish ($7000) . Look forward to seeing all our great friends at Thunder Valley Dragways Sat Sept 19.

The Make A Wish donations are already coming in. We are well on our way to our $7,000 goal...incredible! :)

In addition to the normal payout, we have some other sponsors that are getting involved with some financial incentives:

-Terry Grosz is offering $100 for anyone that wins with a stick.

-Rob Angland from A&A Cycle in Watertown, S.D. is putting up $100 for anyone that wins with a station wagon.

-Long time Thunder Valley and NHRA Division 5 starter Marv Lovro sweetened the pot by offering $100 to the winner of Sundays race.

-Bill Fiest's 'Wild Bill's Perfectly Strange Award' offers $100 to the first racer that runs exactly on his or her dial in with a zero on a winning run (example: 10.500 on a 10.50 dial in). This is for both Saturday and Sunday races.

-On Sunday, Bill Wittstruck will be distributing gifts donated by various Mitchell, S.D. businesses to racers chosen by random drawing.

We also wish to thank our associate event sponsor for Saturday, H&R Salvage, for their generosity and support. On Sunday, the associate event sponsor is Selland Trucking, also from the racing town of Mitchell, S.D.

More to come as we get closer. :)

Some quick results from Saturday's race. With 64 cars, the final came down to Ramsey, Minnesota's Jason DeForrest in his GT/CA Camaro and Watertown, South Dakota's Doug Engles in his '66 Corvette SS/HA. Jason got the win...his third MCR win this season!

I wasn't there due to a family function, so thanks to Mark Verba for posting qualifying sheets and the final round photo on the MCR Facebook site https://www.facebook.com/groups/1544371742488480/

Also thank you Al,Mark, and Liz for sharing the pictures with us.

62 cars for Sunday's race. The winner was Pappilion, Nebraska's Paul Merolla in his E/S '66 Nova over Bell Fourche South Dakota's Bob Swan in his C/SA 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang.

A bit of trivia....Paul's Nova build is documented here under the Class Racer Build section. Bob's GT500 is a real-deal original Shelby.
