Why?

Why would an organization have three races together that would canabilize each of them? I'm talking about the National event in Charlotte, the Sports Nationals in Columbus, and the divisional race in Shreveport. I realize the Shreveport race is a stretch but Columbus and Charlotte would draw a lot of the same cars.

Add to that the Goodguys race in Bowling Green. Another fan drain.

Re: Why?

There are just too many races! IMHO, NHRA needs to cut it's number of National Events by at least 1/3 and preferably by 1/2. That would shift more importance to the Divisional level and make National Events into something special again.

I agree with Billy so many races and organizations it doesn't leave any room to avoid having races conflicting each other.

Re: Why?

x2 with Billy on big race reduction...just too many choices on places to race today.

Wasn't always this way...remember the old days?

Maybe it's good (in a way)....BUT......

Re: Why?

Never thought I would see there be "too many" races to pick from.

Good problem to have, IMO, considering what the flip side could be.

It does create a bit of problem with all the races stacked on top of each other tho.

Gotta pick and choose the most important ones first.

Re: Why?

As long as they're making money, I don't think they'll cut any out.
And I imagine they're not worried about any Sportsman schedule conflict.

Re: Why?

It real simple
52 weekends a year

26 national events a year counting sports Nats
50 plus points races a year

This gives us total of 75 plus races. 50% of the country only has 26 or so weekends to race a year because of things like snow and cold weather. So 5-10 weekends a season are going to have 3 or more NHRA races on them.

Re: Why?

The strong trying to kill the weak. The 2 dragstrips in AZ did it for years with one trying to get the other to go away. The 2 finally decided that it was hurting both and neither was going away so they started working together on Team races and not having them on the same weekend.

Re: Why?

2016 LODRS scheduling ought to be interesting with 4 straight national events in the east in June.

Re: Why?

Business must be good doing it this way. Lots of racers through out the country to fill the pits and pay the entry. Enough Pro teams to attract the paying spectators. Enough Big money sponsors to keep them financially supported.
If one group or the other thins out that will be the only thing to affect the "Business" and call for a change.

Charley Bob, as usual, you've stumbled onto the heart of the matter. D is in total agreement.

Pro sponsors will love that.

They do it to alleviate the congestion. ZMAX was packed. They still ended up running 2 rounds of Sportsman on Saturday night. Imagine if another 40-50 cars showed.
I had a Big Buck race promoter tell me once he would rather have 200 cas than 300 because tsmore manageable and he still makes a good profit.
