Where do Sealed motors run?
 

Wanted to see rules, tracks that participate etc in the sealed motor class. Not IHRA or NHRA. NMCA? Thanks

around my neck of the woods mostly all the dirt tracks (Wayne Co Speedway, Hilltop Speedway, Attica) have classes for those, none in drag racing that I know of.

NMCA Chevrolet Performance Stock and Chevy LSX series with 525 hp LS sealed crate motor. Heads up - low 10's. Also NMRA Mustang deal.

IMCA dirt track uses a sealed 350/355hp motors in hobbystock and sportmod classes or what they call a 602 crate. They come from GM with twistoff head, intake, oil pan and timming cover bolts. They also have cable ties on other bolts that make them IMCA legal. They also use a 604 in the A mods. But like everything else it who you know there are many enhanced motors out there. Tom

Yes, the enhanced 604 crate motors out there make about 60hp more than the best tuned factory GM 604 crate motors, the twist off GM 604 bolts aren't hard to find.

Yeah, "sealed" motors ain't sealed. I've heard some of them that sounded like high compression small block Chevy Super Stock engines, and even Modified class engines. Those usually were considerably faster on a 5/8 mile track than the engines I knew had been tuned and tweaked, but not opened up.

One of the guys I know well runs a dirt class with a "sealed" crate 602. They all seem to have been "enhanced." Brezinski and others offer a number of cheater parts. There are suppliers selling replacement sealed bolts etc and a couple of builders have perfected methods of cheating. The local tech inspection is rather loose and fuel is also a potential cheat. (oxygenated and methanol).

Thanks for the information about the cheating possibilities. Sounds like NHRA doesn't need anything like that. Another can of worms..
Coyote class runs the 525 motor which is the Drag race version. Seems like a more open motor class would be easier to control...

Dick, I truly hope, for your sake, that your other attributes are not as short as your memory, lol. It's only been 6 or so months ago that I posted and you and I discussed on this same forum information about NMRA Coyote Stock and NMCA LS Challenge being factory sealed crate engine, heads up classes. They are proven to work, fairly easy to police, relatively inexpensive (compared to all other heads up) classes,with factory support. What more could a heads up racer want? Lol NHRA would do well to adopt these programs.

Thanks Tony, you caught me. I had tried various web sites after our discussion. Then after the latest posts could not find again. I hoped to sneak it back out as a topic to find more information. So many guys talk about the cheaters in round track it is a shame. Maybe not enforcement... Sounds good to me too.

The classes are thriving in NMRA and NMCA, and the way they are set up makes cheating very hard to do.

I have to agree with Tony. The NMCA/NMRA sealed classes are not the same deal as the roundy-round stuff. To my knowledge, there are no "authorized" rebuilders for the DR525. The seals are also way different on the DR525.

Suppose Chevy would like to support the class at an NHRA sanction? I imagine they are sponsor at NMCA events, right? The financial opposite of SS/AH don't you think? I guess it needs input from racers who have seen it flourish at the other sanction. It would have a group of racers ready to make the introduction events....I need to read the trans rules etc

Why wouldn't you run the NMCA? They treat racers well, the payouts aren't bad, and they have a national championship. They also need the car count.

As one Grandpa to another, take this as it is meant, humor. My 8 year old grandson corrects me every time I call an engine a motor. "Grandpa, a motor is electric, an engine is gas". With that in mind I was going to post earlier that they use sealed motors at the local slot car track but some folks get upset about anything so I held of but what the heck. Really, by definition, motor is correct for both but I let him correct me anyway.

Gump, I have not really found very many local NMCA meets in Ohio. BOwling Green is good, Norwalk too? Guess I haven't found the full schedule... No problem with a new organization...New friends versus 30 + yr friends would be different.
