I missed seeing the rain date listed. Has anyone heard if and when sportsman will get race if Staurday is a washout?
I believe Dallas is the following week, Belle Rose the week after, Atlanta the following, St. Louis the one after that, etc. And as I understand from friends that are still there, the place is worse than it was on Sunday, and many, many rigs are still buried in the field. Lets hear it for Vegas, Pomona, Englishtown, etc. |
Dan, I moved my rig yesterday onto the pavement. Several racers have already done that. Ground conditions had improved, but I still had to be pulled out, and I was in a better place than you. It was about 2 PM and they said they would be pulling rigs out 'till 5. I know that some racers that were in the really bad stuff have gotten out. We got a touch of rain overnight so that didn't help. I'm trying to find out about what happens if it rains Sat (30% chance now). In other words, would they use Easter Sun. I'll post as soon as I hear something. If I can do anything to help, let me know. That goes for anybody!!

Charlie,
Baytown got dumped on again today - wind and rain, very heavy. Anything that wasn't pulled out before today is probably really buried now. I have no idea what the fallback plan is if we get more rain this weekend - right now, Weather Undeground is showing a 40 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms both Saturday and Sunday. In case I haven't mentioned - rain sux!! - Larry - Larry |
Charlie, Have any of the rigs that were at the end of the baddest road been pulled out. We were told that no one would be allowed to move. Can you update us on when conditions are favorable to returning and being able to move our rigs? If I had known that rigs were being moved, I would have been there.
I beleive that Craig is making the decision today about what to do. I don't see anyway for our rig and some close to us being able to get out even if they deceided to have the race. I am glad that you and some others were able to get out. We are in the worst place possible and unless the road is extended I don't see any way for us to move. Richard |
Fletch u gotta think positive dude. your right it doesnt look good and no openings in the schedule except for thursday or friday of BELLE ROSE (HINT HINT)
As far as rigs pulled out I know undercover Kurt Damron was the very last rig on the row where the Lucas trailer was parked got pulled out sometime Monday. I vote for changing it to racing Friday until completed, but Im sure there is probably one person who plans getting in Saturday morning making one time run and racing so I guess that wont happen. I would like to know what the plan is if it does rainout again. Shane Carr |

The facility is drying and we are in the process of getting all of the vehicles to the asphalt. As of 10am we are still on schedule to finish the event on Friday and Saturday. There will be a test n tune from 1-6pm on Friday and we will start at 9am on Saturday with a time run and then first round of eliminations. We will continue to post any updates on the site Maybe this can be positive news from the D4 website Shane Carr |
Shane,
I totally agree...give a couple of time runs on Friday and then race until it's done. But you're right, I'm sure some folks (very few) are planning on just showing up for the one run on Saturday. To be perfectly honest, I'd like to be one of them, but with the weather forecast, you're almost forced to be there early. So I guess we'll make all the time runs you've ever wanted on Friday, and then sit in the rain on Saturday. I know, I know...it's only 50% probability of rain. Kind of like at Noble last year when Sunday was a guaranteed monsoon and we quit running time trials Saturday night at around 6pm and went to dinner. See the brick wall...run into the brick wall...brilliant! |
Shane, are you saying that if we came right now you could get any and all rigs out. When I left my car and motorhome were surrounded by water. Has that changed? Has the road been extended to my rig?
Richard |
No not me personally, but I know Damrons rig is about the biggest, heaviest rig parked down in the field and it was pulled out Monday. He was further down than anybody.
The one post is directly from the D4 website. Shane Carr |
Hey guys look on the brightside. If it rains we will have one giant public swimming pool (again).
ps: bring your own swim suit Jimmy "Cooter" Hidalgo Jr. '98 Firebird B/FIA 4865 |
Charlie, Did you leave Trip to protect your rig?
|
Guys:
I don't have a dog in this fight anymore but if NHRA can fine sportsman racers for oildowns why can't sportsman racers charge NHRA for holding their rigs captive? Is it not their responsibility to provide everyone with a 'decent' facility to race? What if a guy could not come back because of job or any number of reasons? They then would have to pay to come back and get their rigs when it became possible to move them. Turn about is fair play I say You know it's not the first time for this kind of problem ant this track. They (the owners) were going to fix this problem years ago,ha. Just like little Billy. SEB |
Dunno about swimsuits, but bring sweaters and jackets, it's going to be a chilly one.

Larry,
Do you have any insight as to what the potential contingency plan is if Saturday is a washout? Would we be racing on Easter Sunday? Monday? At Belle Rose? Not at all? Thanks |
Fletch,
Nope, I don't have a clue what the fallback is - I may go out to the track tomorrow and I could ask then, but most of those who are returning will be there by then. - Larry |
I know that rigs were being moved all day today. From the info I got, anybody there was getting moved. The bad areas are good enough to get the rigs pulled out. My suggestion is to come tomorrow, if possible, and get your stuff out. There is a free "test & tune" from 1-6. Then more after that if you want to pay the regular Fri. nite deal which is about $15, I think.
As far as a "contigency" plan, there isn't one. At this time there is no commitment to Sun. or Mon. I'm not going to hang anybody out to dry, but I've been told that they aren't rulling out those days. The latest forecast indicates "showers" Sat. mostly in the afternoon. They want to run this race if possible, so, if eliminations get started Sat., then get interupted, those days will be a consideration. If you have doubts, come get your stuff and leave. Your entries are transferable. I know some racers are coming tomorrow, watching the latest forecasts, and deciding what to do Sat. AM. I will be heading out there tomorrow around noon. If I can do anything, call me - 281-685-8131 Oh yea, the high Sat. is supposed to be 49 with a 10-15 mph semi head wind !! |
Saturday's forecast has progressed from iffy to down right horrible. I hope everyone enjoys making time runs in the beautiful weather today...after all, it's a free test and tune...

Dave Kommel got off his plane and checked into his hotel - then read NHRA.com and got lucky, was able to get a return flight to L.A. this afternoon.
Sorry, guys and gals, I'll be staying home this weekend after all. - Larry |
I think that all NHRA tracks should be required to have good pit spots this whole thing is becoming unreal.
And people wonder why I don?t race as much as I used to. As far as a fine taking my rig out, and they wanted to fine me I would just tell them to ck their mail. All this crap is getting out hand, when I raced IHRA I was never treated that way and I have been racing since I was 16 and now 58. 2998 |
Thank God for two days of sunshine. It appears that most people got their rigs out. Exception Stan Holt. Of course he lives in Houston, maybe he can wait for dry conditions. His appears to be a very bad deal. A wrecker could not move him I was told.
As for the schedule, fortunatly it works for me but I am sure that it sucks for many people. I would have suggested it be run after Saturday qualifing since Dallas doesn't have a curfew(I think) . We will be running after dark anyway. I guess everyone was as glad as I was to get my rig home. When I arrived in Houston at 11:30PM Thursday, everything worked and no one had messed with anything. When the tractor driver looked at my situation, he said OH! you're the one in the big mudhole. However, since we had moved everyone else out of the way. Mine came out without a hitch. Beleive me prayer works. I hope everyone else was able to get home in as good of condition as I was. It was a very good call to cancell the race for this weekend. I was back home just a little after dark. What are the current and projected conditions? Richard |
Saturday morning, 9 a.m. - cloudy and COLD! It's 49 degrees, wind chill 43, and the green blob is marching across I-10 just like it did last weekend. the front edge is close to Katy, so Baytown should get wet at 10 a.m., right on schedule.
- Larry |
The rain slowed down, didn't start raining in baytown until almost 11 - not heavy, just a nice, steady drizzle. And it got colder - now 46 degrees, with 20 mph winds.
See ya in Ennis. - Larry |
