D1 at Maple Grove or Jeg's Sportsnationals at Bowling Green?
I will be attending 1 of these races; however, because they are on the same dates, I obviously can't attend both. My question is; which should be the better race to attend from a Stock/Super Stock perspective? Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: D1 at Maple Grove or Jeg's Sportsnationals at Bowling Gr
If you have not been to Bowling Green, you may want to go just to experience the track, that being said you could also go there the week before Indy and then drive up for the Labor day weekend race. With Unk announcing, you can't go wrong either way.

Re: D1 at Maple Grove or Jeg's Sportsnationals at Bowling Gr
Bill - Go to Bowling Green. It's a legendary track and there will be class run offs in stock and super stock. If you're a Stk/SS junkie, it's a no-brainer.

Re: D1 at Maple Grove or Jeg's Sportsnationals at Bowling Gr
We are contesting the 3rd annual SS/AH Tim Hebert Chootout and have over twenty cars intending to attend. NHRA giving a grade point is also a big plus. A little bird told me some old camo cars may show. A little SHAM vs SECRETARIAT show.

Re: D1 at Maple Grove or Jeg's Sportsnationals at Bowling Gr
It would be great if NHRA gifted the class racers at the Sportsnationals this year by turning off the AHFS for that special event and let us run without penalty.

Re: D1 at Maple Grove or Jeg's Sportsnationals at Bowling Gr
I may be a little biased about this (as Maple Grove is my home track ) and the Sportsnationals will certainly be a great event with Unk announcing but the Divisional at Maple Grove will be packed with Stock/Superstock action as Stock will have as usual a full field and S/S certainly will have a high number of entries . And the weather is always terrific for the MG event .
And Bowling Green doesn't have the 'Shady Maple'....... |
Re: D1 at Maple Grove or Jeg's Sportsnationals at Bowling Gr
Jack quit giving this gentleman bad info. BG sports is by far a way better choice.
Alan you need to get back to reality. Not having AHFS at a national event (lol). If turbo cars we're factored close to correct you and Marty would have nothing to worry about. |

Re: D1 at Maple Grove or Jeg's Sportsnationals at Bowling Gr
Maple Grove is a good race track - the guys from D1 do a great job and, of course, they have a national event there. But, that being said, there is only one Bowling Green experience. It has everything that a drag racer could possibly want. The Shady Maple is what the Shady Maple is. But it cannot be compared to the restaurants of Bowling Green with a straight face. Also, I'm not sure they still give grade points for attending SportsNats. So it comes down to whether a racer has the time and money to tow down there from the Mid Atlantic. A racer will have the time of their life if they can make it to that race.

Re: D1 at Maple Grove or Jeg's Sportsnationals at Bowling Gr
Thanks guys. I have decided to go to the Jeg's Sportsnationals at Bowling Green. I have never been to Bowling Green, and I have never been to the Sportsnationals; so I will be crossing 2 items off of my "bucket list"!

Why wouldn't they give grade points? |

I've never been to Maple Grove, but BG is awesome! Only gripe from last year's LODRS race was the PA system. Couldn't hear it in my pit spot or get a radio signal, but that is mostly due to my arrival time. Couldn't hear it very well in the covered stands either. |
Re: D1 at Maple Grove or Jeg's Sportsnationals at Bowling Gr
Don't forget that on Friday evening at 6 the Jones Family/ Jegs will have a racer cookout adjacent to the track.

Re: D1 at Maple Grove or Jeg's Sportsnationals at Bowling Gr
I will surely miss the Cajun sportsnationals, which was the first Jegs sportsnational event. However, Bowling Green is a great venue. I think it will be a huge event. It may be one of the biggest sportsnational event in several years!

Re: D1 at Maple Grove or Jeg's Sportsnationals at Bowling Gr
The Jones family and crew has BG looking like new money, everything has been repaved! A very clean and family friendly place. If you don't have a great time at this race your engine must have died. So Y'all come.

Re: D1 at Maple Grove or Jeg's Sportsnationals at Bowling Gr
Well my opinion may be biased also. From a fan perspective, Bowling Green may be the place to be, but, from what I hear from fellow racers who have raced at both places, I think I'm making the right choice and staying home at Maple Grove! I heard the timing system at BG has something to be desired. Either way, I'm sure you won't go wrong with either venue.

Re: D1 at Maple Grove or Jeg's Sportsnationals at Bowling Gr
It really is disappointing that these events are on the same weekend. MG is my favorite Divisional of the year. That being said I'm heading to BG for the first time ever and hope the car count is a lot greater then the pre registered entries. I'll be working with Stephen Hebert videoing the Hemi "Chootout", can't wait!

Re: D1 at Maple Grove or Jeg's Sportsnationals at Bowling Gr
Nitro, be careful ...would like to remind all racers traveling southbound 65 that the large rest area before you get to exit 58 has been closed since the first of the year due to a fire....the rest area on the northbound side is still open....

Bill....I wish I had "tough" decisions like yours! DO go to BG like many have said...it'll be
a first-timer for you and you'll have lots of fun there.... If you still need MG this year...remember there's the Keystones and also the Dutch later this year...both have intense class racing.... You're going to Indy too?? WOW!!!! |
