SS/GT question
Is there a place, in GT categories, where you could run a newer , late model FI engine, in say, for instance, an 84 Cutlass ? Just wunderin'

Re: SS/GT question
The factory hot rod motors - CJ, COPO, DragPak - are restricted to 08 or later bodies. Other than that I think "any engine same make as body, year optional" means just that. I've seen 55 Chevy's in GT with late model LS motors. At least on TV broadcasts of NHRA events.

Kenny
You can put any corporate engine you want in your car and run GT. You can run an earlier or later model engine as long as it is in the guide. |

Re: SS/GT question
Question: with all these alphabet soup classes, how do they handle class runoffs with single cars nowadays?

On the flip side.... Anyone ever hear of a SS/GT racer using a '08-'16 Factory Stock body (or clone of one) and using a 2007 and older engine ? |

OK Kenny
I know that is not a random question. Spill the beans. What's the plan? |
Re: SS/GT question
It might be hard to put one of those FS engines in an older car, without a big change to the intake manifold .

Re: SS/GT question
New body (08 up) with matching motor FSS/something. New Body old motor FGT/something. New motor old body FGT/something New body/new motor/different years FGT/something. Smaller the motor, the more screwin you get because there is no stick/auto in the FSS and FGT arena and NHRA used the stick factor and in the lower FSS and FGT classes, the difference is as much as .25 and that's a lot. If you goin that way, use the new high horsepower stuff. Using an old motor in a new car probably won't work well. This applies to DP, Copo and CJ bodies/engines. Showroom stuff is SS and GT.

Just an idea I've had rolling around in my narrow mind, for a couple months now, nothing in steel or aluminum , not yet anyway, Stewart.

I would have thought a new body with an old carbed engine would put it in the regular SS/GT classes. I was thinking the engine is what dictated which group it runs in. |

It is possible to run regular SS/GT with a 2008 or newer non COPO, Cobrajet, or Drag Pac body that started life as a regular (read as heavier) street legal car and is in the NHRA classguide. At least that was the way it was explained to me by tech. |
Re: SS/GT question
BBF, you are correct. Unfortunately only Mopar has applied and got put into the books some of the newer models. It would be great if Chevy and Ford got new showroom in the book. I think NHRA has encouraged them to get them sent in.
