R.I.P. Danny Durham (Geerhead55)
I just got the phone call about an hour ago. Danny Durham lost his battle with cancer yesterday evening. He was only 62 years old - WAY TOO YOUNG.
I know he would say Thank You to all of you for the thoughts and, especially, for the prayers. |

Re: R.I.P. Danny Durham (Geerhead55)
One tough phone call. Cancer wins again.
I met Danny last year through this board and the local racing community here in Washington. I'm sure it was Danny on the PA at Bremerton some years ago who totally raised the hackles on my neck. He praised every Chevy that rolled (or was pushed) to the line for all it's beauty, then insisted every Mustang was a "Rustang" I'll miss that this season. Turns out he was right about that rust... Alex D and Danny D will street race forever and love every second of it. Dale |
Re: R.I.P. Danny Durham (Geerhead55)
So sorry to hear this. Danny was so excited about my SS/K shootout at the class nationals. I met him in person there. He sure liked his Chevy II's. Prayers to his family.

I met Danny years ago at a Mission Divisional, he came to my pit and introduced himself. With in minutes it was as if we were old friends, such a sincere and knowledgeable guy. He will truly be missed, I am shocked, I knew he was battling illness but I am shocked. |

Re: R.I.P. Danny Durham (Geerhead55)
Even though I knew it was coming, this one is hard to swallow.
Still trying to wrap my head around this. I have to agree with all the comments made here about Danny. He was a class act, great racer, true gentleman and, above all else, a true friend. His knowledge of class racing was very impressive, to say the least. I had, personally, known Danny just a few years, but it seemed much longer than that. A great guy to hang with and talk about the future of drag racing (class racing). Yes, I will miss him very much. Thanks for letting me vent. |

Re: R.I.P. Danny Durham (Geerhead55)
I had no idea that Danny was that ill. I always looked forward to talk with Danny whenever I went racing at Bremerton Raceway, Danny always pitted just off the return road, and always had a smile and wave when I`d drive by. Like others have said, within a few minutes of meeting Danny, it seemed like you had been friends for years, just a great, friendly guy. He had a memory like a steel trap, and his knowledge of Northwest drag racing history was amazing. RIP Danny.

Re: R.I.P. Danny Durham (Geerhead55)
I know this is last minute and a busy weekend with Easter and all. I will be at the NW Rodarama (Puyallup Fairgrounds Showplex) all weekend. Stop by and share your Danny stories with me. Just look for the Hotwheels Drag Strip display and enjoy.

Re: R.I.P. Danny Durham (Geerhead55)
One of the first people I saw at Alex’s class nationals was Danny and his son who had flew in for the race. He said we had met in the 70’s at Seattle and Bremerton when he was a teenager and I lived up there. He even brought some pictures of the car he had bought from Rich Carlson then in hopes we would be there and he could share. As someone else said his memory of those days was amazing as he recalled things I had forgotten. We spent quite a bit of time together that weekend talking about past and present racing and the Nova he was building for him and his son to race. (He loved Nova's) We stayed in touch and would check in from time to time to get racer and family updates.
As been said here many times what a classy guy and a great ambassador to our sport, he will be dearly missed. The win light is on in your lane Danny and will shin bright for a long time buddy. Jim Parsons Harmon & Parsons 5305 F/S Chevy II Nova |
Re: R.I.P. Danny Durham (Geerhead55)
I also met Danny at Alex's race and again at Mike's first Class Nationals. Seems like I am saying RIP all too much lately. The racing community is a special group of folks that walk the talk and should always remain close.

Re: R.I.P. Danny Durham (Geerhead55)
We were so saddened to hear of Danny's passing. The first time I remember meeting Danny was at Seattle in 2010 on our West Coast Swing. That was when he presented Larry with this!
http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...3DE0493F20.jpg Then we met again at the 2nd US Class Nationals in Columbus in 2014. He gave us some photos that he had taken at the 1st US Class Nationals in Byron, IL in 2001. We may have met at that time, but it was so hot, I did not get out of the motorhome except when we were running down the track. When Danny gave us the photo, it brought back such memories that I went back inside the motorhome and cried for a while. This picture is of Larry and our dear friend Jerry Newsome running for Class in B/SA. Jerry has been gone from us for a while now. Hopefully he and Danny are running for the big Wally now!! http://i368.photobucket.com/albums/o...5483704296.jpg RIP, Danny and Jerry Patsy & Larry |
Re: R.I.P. Danny Durham (Geerhead55)
Our thoughts and prayers to Danny's family. I had the pleasure of meeting Danny in 2014 at the Northern Class Nationals in Ohio. Another great person gone from the racing community. God Speed Danny.

Re: R.I.P. Danny Durham (Geerhead55)
R.I.P Danny.
I always looked forward to his postings here and his extensive knowledge of who is who in class and old school class cars. We are on opposite coasts but class racing thru the net really makes friends. God bless Danny's family in this time and the future. Chris O'Keefe Thanks to all who wrote before with wonderful stories and pictures. |
