Plenty of Mavericks and Comets still left..

Note that he is claiming a '76 Maverick, which is 133hp, not the 152hp he got hit with as a '75.

Note that the ...he, is actually a she ...BJ......carry on....

Re: hp in vegas ....

So next week she has to weigh 3030 as a 76. She will only be 70 heavy then. I need to put bigger brakes on it. Darn that ahfs. Grill, heads, intake, and thicker head gaskets then it is a 77.. Maybe Mark is right. Thanks Jack. The smile when she got the Wally was priceless.

Just e-mailed NHRA to get them to correct that. Dwight is correct.

Maverick is much more aerodynamic than Mustang. What is good for goose.

They tagged the Comet, the Granada and the Monarch, but not the Mustang. Shake my head.
You should have left it alone. You could still have run the '76!!

Mike Graham 04-05-2016 03:52 PM

Re: hp in vegas ....

That won't hurt the 76. 164 would have been painful for the people building a 75

Congratulations on all the hard work. How soon will this combo be in R?? Just curious. Love the lower class cars.

Amazing a U/SA hitting the 12's

What does this engine have performance wise over the years before and after?

Re: hp in vegas ....

Dan, what Mr. Derby City means is that there were letters of request to lower the HP rating some time ago. When NHRA granted it there were several posts here on Class Racer that the newly factored Fords were going to be #1 qualifiers immediately.

With a stroke of the pen, NHRA can alter the playing field either in a positive or a negative point depending on which side of the factor you are on. This practice has been going on for quite sometime. NHRA knows that the AHFS will put things back on line, though most times it is in small increments.

This is not to take away the performance that is extracted by the competitor from his combo.

The three F's that precede the word FFFord may be a sign of difficulty pronouncing the word, or a manner of stuttering, but in fact stand for Factored Flying Fords.

Their numbers are impressive though. I hope this clears things up for you.

Re: hp in vegas ....

I want the 55 thru 59 Fords back in the class guide. Then I want the 312 ci 245hp reduced to 170hp. One more thing bring back the class 21.00 to 22.00 the V/SA back in the day, oh I need a little money to build that killer 57Ford.

What an awesome story. All I can say is what a great inspiration you both have shown. I'd be proud to meet you both sometime.

Now about that FFFord of ya alls. That thing flies and has a really cool paint scheme on it. Nice, way to go.
