Another National Event price increase
$10 more over the Winter, but not much was said.
Now 2 months into the season another $20 is being added on. $30 higher since last November!!!! Is $1,000,000 in pit vehicle insurance coverage really necessary? While the extra $20 might be a "bargain" for the extra coverage does $340 to enter a National Event sound like a bargain to anyone? What was the extra $10 to start the year for?? |
Re: Another National Event price increase
Grrrrrrrrr money hungry holes. This Nickle and dime stuff is way out of line. Just another enhancement to suck up
|
Re: Another National Event price increase
Wow. I don't have a pit vehicle, I ride a 25 year old bike around the pits. Why do I need a million dollars in coverage? I would like to decline, but thanks for the offer. So if someone runs in me now, I get a cool million?

Re: Another National Event price increase
The question is..........HOW MUCH DID THE PAYOUT INCREASE and ROUND $$$$$$$ ??!!

"Certain levels of competitors in the new Pro/Sportsman and Sportsman categories can obtain a license without a medical exam and will have a lower fee to boost entry level participation." I know that NHRA would not lie to me, so YOU must have made a mistake. The entry fee is lower. NHRA said so. |

Re: Another National Event price increase
ill just stick to the local combo stuff and a couple close divisionals a year and hit a few bigger payout bracket races, NHRA isnt going to steal from me.

Re: Another National Event price increase
Why not... what options do we have? Love drag racing for 50 years. It just means doing without something elsè...like viagra.

JUST ONCE if you guys and gals would get together for just one event AND NOT ATTEND, you would get a reaction out of NHRA. But as long as you just keep paying the money, they'll keep taking it and giving themselves mega money for doing nothing every year. Your Choice. |
Re: Another National Event price increase
I've said it before and I'll say it again, "They haven't figured out how to make us go away yet". But they'll keep trying!

Our big money bracket races we promote continue to grow. We had record car counts at all four last year, so each event got a purse increase for this year, and more sponsors came on board. We've had one event already this year. Bad forecast, lost Sunday to weather, and we still had 489 entries, 100+ more than last year. On the flip side, not enough racers supported the Class Nationals, now there is no Class Nationals. As chasracer said, "Your choice." |
Re: Another National Event price increase
The added cost is probably to help offset the losses from the lower quotas, you guys didn't think they were going to eat all of that did you?
|
Re: Another National Event price increase
As long as there are people on here begging to get into events because the quota is full they have no reason for them to stop enhancing the racers.
|
Re: Another National Event price increase
$20 is for the new $1 million pit vehicle insurance coverage per event either National or Divisional entry--- go to NHRA Competition explains what this surcharge is for--Wonder if Force or DSR with about 20+ mopeds/golf carts each will be charged this fee???---FED 387

Re: Another National Event price increase
Michael Beard is to be thanked by all the racers for providing a business like drag racing which still considers the participants not just the "business". NHRA only sees the bottom line today, not the future of the bottom line. Michael sees the Bigger picture which depends on keeping ALL the parts of the racing coming back for more. Probably will pick up spectators also.
Sorry to see the Class Nationals gone but competing NHRA events helped kill the counts in classes because the NHRA addicted lost sight of the future of their options. If more NHRA addicted had braved missing an NHRA meet to support Class Nationals maybe NHRA would be questioning upping the charges for class racers at their events because they too would see the racers HAVE an option now.... Keep up the good work Michael. |

Why Did They Go Down ???? I can see if certain categories Do Not Fill Up, you can always Add 10-15 More Stock or Super Stockers to make up the difference. Or whatever categories do not make quota, lower their quota down and add on to another class. |

Re: Another National Event price increase
I'm sure there are many reasons to lower the quota - ease of parking, increase divisional participation, less cars to tech, weigh, fuel check, forgiving run schedules in cases of bad weather/oil downs, the list goes on..
I do think certain tracks have just accepted divisional events as making money off participants only and do nothing at all to advertise them, especially if alcohol cars are not present. There were zero spectators at Zmax, about 50 at Atlanta and maybe one concession stand open at both. If I had not gone on NHRAdiv2.com I would not have known there was going to be a race at Zmax this weekend. At least I hear a radio commercial for Maple Grove's Memorial Day Weekend D1 Race, and we all know Bader does a great job advertising the Norwalk Divisional. |
Re: Another National Event price increase
ZMax/Charlotte Motor Speedway did NO advertising of the LODRS (nothing on their website, no radio or TV ads) and when I called the speedway they had NO information on schedule, ticket prices, etc. I was told it was a 'lease' event and since Lucas Oil was the sponsor I should call them for information. Pitiful.

Re: Another National Event price increase
I did not run a National event from 2001 to 2014.
I entered 1 in 2014 and 1 in 2015. No real big complaints other than the amount of time we are forced to devote just to run one..... I always have fun and enjoy myself at any race... Increased costs, time etc all for a greatly diminished potential reward. For those that can do them and maybe have never won or can justify it at any cost for whatever reason.....I can see the attraction..... For me.....It just doesn't really hold the attraction it once did so I am unlikely to even attempt to enter one again... |

But lets not forget that NHRA is a Business ! I'll bet most of the post on the subject don't attend national events at all . Bader has his %%it together and know's how to promote a race and NHRA needs some lessons on that subject. Getting back to the increase in fees for adding insurance coverage on Pit Scooters- Golf Carts I think is a good Idea ! I see those with Kids riding them unattended and Flying all over the pit areas and have had a few misses myself- Not my Fault ! I have always carried 500 K on my Scooter and G-Car , but my bet is most of the racers attending these event don't have coverage on anything- Golf Cars --Scooters or Race Cars. In today's world of I'm hurt - "I'm suing " World --you better get real ! Look , this is not a Cheap Sport we are attached to and there are cost related that need to be adjusted from time to time ! Just My Opinion ! |
Re: Another National Event price increase
520 cars ran 4 days of big bucks bracket races at Vegas including a $260,000 winner payout this past Friday. Put on by 2 classracers. Monster huge success. Not a single NHRA anything in site. Do the math. Shoe polish is no stranger to anyone on the board. Rant over, carry on.............................

Re: Another National Event price increase
BVR retires and then NHRA raises the entry fee in the same week. Makes it a little suspicious. I ride a pedal bike also. I don't need a million insurance policy from NHRA.

Re: Another National Event price increase
23 national events
300 min sportsman cars per national event $20x300 entry's =$6000 per race $6000x23 events= $138,000 (with pros paying $0) Did I miss something? I think the extra $10 they charged us at the beginning of the 2016 season more then covers the insurance increase. What was the $10 increase at the start of the season for? |

Reality:
You'll get very few S/SS racers to make a steady diet of big buck races because to really be competitive you need as much electronics as there is in the space shuttle. Maybe the Super categories racers could make the move easier. Just a thought. |
Re: Another National Event price increase
I just wonder if this was a knee jerk reaction by NHRA because a Super Class racers wife just creamed a vintage 69 Camaro Superstocker at the Vegas fall race last year ? She was driving a golf cart when the ACCIDENT occurred....Seriously, how many pit vehicle accidents are there ??

Every once in a while, I'll Footbrake in the Box class, too, and in my experience, none of the electronics makes them much tougher (if at all). The thing that makes the Box class tough is the speed, consistency, and quality of the cars in competition. |

Re: Another National Event price increase
We all like racing a lot or we wouldn't even be on here, but I think the main reason a S/SS guy wouldn't want to attend foot brake and bracket races very often--no matter how good the payout is-- is that he doesn't want to put extra wear and tear on the expensive, specific, and likely very hard-to-find parts and pieces that allow him to be competitive in S/SS in the first place. It would almost require a second dedicated car to be used for bracket racing only. Otherwise, you'd be a real busy guy doing constant maintenance.
If you had a zipper on the Stocker engine bay and could slide a mildly modified SBC and plain jane Turbo 350 in and out of your easy-to-work-on '68 Camaro in the span of a couple hours every Tuesday night when you wanted to go run a big-money bracket race for the weekend, yeah, they'd be more apt to do it. But they don't. |
Re: Another National Event price increase
Ok, this is from the none racers point of view.. So obviously i could be wrong.. But, IMO you guys have the power to make the change. Dont support NHRA. There are so many races like Mike Beards events.. Work as a group to effect change. I dont know if any of you are familiar with the Demoulas battle that happened here in the Northeast a few years ago. The customers said i have had enough. And started going elsewhere and it made a huge change in what happened with the stores. You guys as racers protest by staying away. You all know that they rely on your money to pay the bills. And when they start getting hit in the wallet, much like all you are. Things could just change. And dont say you dont want to support things such as the Northern Class Nationals.. Because if you did Mike would be planning his next one..

Re: Another National Event price increase
What happened while I was away??????????????
About 10 years ago NHRA required all pit vehicles to carry insurance..... I called my agent and added my golf cart to my home owners policy..... The cost was $35.00 for the year to add my golf cart to my home owners policy that gave me coverage for $1,000,000...... Why not allow racers that have coverage to be exempt???????? Because the money grubbing A******S won't be able to cook the books and steal........ Is this a great organization????????????? They don't wear a mask and carry a gun when they rob us...... Just my thoughts, Bob |

Re: Another National Event price increase
The last time I recall a pit vehicle / race car accident was when an intoxicated NHRA official on a pit bike crashed into the side of a race car. In that particular instance, NHRA did not pay. Maybe now that they have insurance, they will pay???
