I still want to see the language concerning the old muscle car, restomods, street machine type vehicles that may go to the track on occasion, but typically are just used for a toy on the street. I don't know of any locale that currently would go after a guy with a Hemi Dart that came new with a slant 6. Some states have Street Rod, Street Machine, Historic or other tags to address this. Is EPA planning to come down with new federal initiatives to overule years of precedent? |

Re: EPA-Its not over yet
April 20, 2016
Dear Mario, Thank you for contacting me to express your support for the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act. I appreciate hearing from you about this important issue. On July 13, 2015, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced its intention to establish carbon dioxide emission standards for new on-road heavy duty vehicles. EPA anticipates the regulation would go into effect in 2018. I have heard from a number of constituents, like you, who are concerned that the regulation would prohibit the conversion of on-road vehicles into racecars. To address this issue, on March 9, 2016, Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) introduced S.2659, the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act of 2016. This bill would amend the Clean Air Act exempt the modification of motor vehicles into racecars from regulations pertaining to greenhouse gas emissions. S.2659 is currently pending before the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, of which I am a senior member. The Environmental Protection Agency has clarified that the proposed regulation would not affect the conversion of street cars into racecars. The agency is now reviewing public comments on the proposal and is expected to issue a final rule in the coming months. Please be assured that I will continue to monitor this issue as S.2659 and the EPA's rulemaking process moves forward. Should there be a need and the opportunity to consider the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act, I will be sure to keep your views in mind. Thank you again for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future about other matters of importance to you. With best personal regards, I am, Sincerely, Tom Carper United States Senator This is the reply I got from my Senator. Mario |
Re: EPA-Its not over yet
Sen. Menendez's office sent an email that he would be responding to my email. I'm waiting.

Re: EPA-Its not over yet
Congress people always "keep your views in mind" while voting whatever is in their best interest.
Congress people beating their chests, claiming victory because the EPA threw them a few carrots. If the industry hadn't gone apoplectic about it, they would have never even noticed. These are the people who gave EPA all the power to begin with. https://theshopmag.com/news/congress...e-mod-reversal I still don't see anything addressing protections for companies making non-street legal parts or for people with older street legal cars that aren't bone stock. |

Re: EPA-Its not over yet
Signed, sealed and delivered. Passed it on as well.
Actually got a response today from Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) which is nice I suppose. She (or someone from her office) said she'd "keep my views in mind". Guess we'll see about that! |

Re: EPA-Its not over yet
This is the disturbing reply I got !!
Member of Congress Riverside, Ca. April 22, 2016 Dear Mr. Cunningham, I want to thank you for sharing your concerns with me regarding automobile modification. As your representative, I need to know what issues affect you in order to serve you best. For decades, the Clean Air Act has protected our precious atmosphere and the air we breathe from pollution. The Environmental Protection Agency and the Clean Air Act are instrumental to defending our environment from the effects of air pollution. Among other things, the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act would exclude select motor vehicles from the EPA’s regulations. Vehicles made and modified for organized racing events would no longer be included in the Clean Air Act’s definition of a “motor vehicle.” American’s affection with the sport of automobile racing goes back to the 19 th century, and has grown exponentially over the years to claim a special place in the heart of many Americans. This legislation opens up a conversation regarding automobile classification, how EPA would implement the proposed changes, and what intended – and unintended – intersections it could have with other federal and state laws. However, Congress must balance our obligation to protect air quality while ensuring that the EPA has the ability to enforce measured and fair environmental standards. Please know that I will continue to work with my colleagues to protect public health and preserve our environment. Thank you for passing along your concerns on automobile modification. I will take them into consideration if this bill comes to a vote. Please email me with further concerns. If you would like to receive periodic updates on issues affecting the Inland Empire, please follow me on Twitter , “like” my Facebook page, and sign up for my newsletter . Sincerely, MARK TAKANO Member of Congress Please do not reply to this email. The mailbox is unattended. To share your thoughts please visit my webpage . |

Re: EPA-Its not over yet
Dear Mr. Calabro:
Thank you for contacting me to express your support for S. 2659, the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports (RPM) Act. Your opinion is very important to me, and I appreciate the opportunity to respond to you on this critical issue. As you may know, this legislation would prevent the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from setting emission standards for any vehicle used exclusively in competitions. The RPM Act was introduced on March 9, 2016, and has been referred to the Committee on Environment and Public Works, of which I am not a member. Recent reports have indicated the EPA intends to ban the conversion of street vehicles into racecars in its rulemaking for heavy-duty greenhouse gas emissions. However, the EPA has indicated that it simply intends to clarify that an existing exemption in the Clean Air Act for non-road vehicles pertains to certain competition vehicles like dirt bikes and snowmobiles, and that tampering with the emission control systems of motor vehicles has always been illegal under the Clean Air Act. I understand that on this issue, as with any other, there are many different viewpoints. Please be assured that I will keep your thoughts squarely in mind should the RPM Act come before the Senate for a vote. Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of further assistance. I invite you to visit my website (http://menendez.senate.gov) to learn more about how I am standing up for New Jersey families in the United States Senate. Please do not reply to this e-mail as this address is not monitored. To contact my office, please use the contact form found on my website at http://menendez.senate.gov/contact/ |

Re: EPA-Its not over yet
Just recieved a reply from the New York Senator (NY values?) I emailed. My reply is on bottom too.
Dear Mr. Lamprecht, Thank you for writing to me regarding your support of S. 2659, the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act of 2016. I understand your views on this legislation, however I am concerned that, S. 2659, the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act of 2016, would remove protections placed in the Clean Air Act. The Clean Air Act authorizes EPA to establish National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) to protect public health and public welfare and to regulate emissions of hazardous air pollutants. Without protections like these, our children and families could suffer health complications, including asthma and other respiratory ailments. As a member of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, I believe it is important to ensure we are protecting our clean air. We must not create loopholes for emissions that would potentially harm our environment and families, while also protecting racecar enthusiast's rights. Thank you again for writing to express your concerns, and I hope that you keep in touch with my office regarding future legislation. For more information on this and other important issues, please visit my website at http://gillibrand.senate.gov and sign up for my e-newsletter. MY REPLY Thank you for your reply. I just see it as another over reach of the Federal Goverment and over regulation. The EPA needs to go. Maybe Mr trump can win NY State this time. William Lamprecht Will Lamprecht 65 Impala H or I/SA in progress. |
Re: EPA-Its not over yet
Considering that an entire season of NHRA drag racing does not put as much pollutants into the air as one of Mr. Obama's vacation trips, it is easy to see who they are concerned about.

At least he had the guts to tell you to go pack sand. Most of the time with these guys, it's "I will keep your views in mind as I struggle with this important issue" without committing one way or the other.
