LIVE from Indy - D3 LODRS
Somebody has to get the report started, so let's get this going. Rolled in just before 11am to no lines. Parking must have started early. It's still pretty wet here. Those that are parked have picked the asphalt or high ground. The crew is working on the track and we'll need some sun to help dry up the water on the pit roads.
Weather is the big unknown this weekend as MJ reported earlier. Right now Saturday and Sunday look challenging. Time to unload and head to Tech. |

Re: LIVE from Indy - D3 LODRS
T & T resumed after 30 minutes of downtime. Big puffy clouds overhead with an occasional bark one. Pretty strong wind out of the west. It's a nice day here ............

T & T picked up pace into the afternoon with a number of Top Dragster, Top Sportsman and alcohol cats making runs. All was going well till an Alcohol Dragster hit the wall about 6. Racing resumed about 7:30.

Good morning. It's a beautiful morning to start Friday Qualifying. Lots of racers came in last nite and the pits are filling up. Stock out first at 9. Weather is still the issue for the weekend with Saturday looking wet all day. Sunday much better. Stay tuned for more. I gotta warm up the car.

Re: LIVE from Indy - D3 LODRS
Q1 Stock is done. About 20 minutes of downtime for a broken gear on the starting line. 3 pair into Super Street and there is an oil down resulting in another 30 minutes of downtime. I'll look for a Q sheet.

Re: LIVE from Indy - D3 LODRS
Friday afternoon update. It's 3:40 and SS Q2 has been interrupted by a top end oil down. I estimate the schedule is about 2 hours behind now.
The Ray Skillman dealer network is advertising on local TV to stop by any of its stores for free tickets for the race. 90 Stockers this year - 128 last year. Stock Q2. And we are done for the day. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...psim9seuni.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...psofsjccbc.jpg |

Re: LIVE from Indy - D3 LODRS
The John Nemeth corvette is the ex Conway Witten Vette. It survived a major crash a few seasons ago and is back on the track. Today, young Kristi Shipp made her maiden voyage in Superstock driving a late model Pontiac Firebird. When we last saw her photo on ClassRacer she was dressed as Jungle Pam at the Las Vegas fall race.

Re: LIVE from Indy - D3 LODRS
NHRA owns the track. New Top Elim. Club under construction. Now you know where the higher entry fees this year went. Missing this less and less and less.

Re: LIVE from Indy - D3 LODRS
Indy 2016 :
On the left is Charlie Downing's 2010 Cobra Jet which I believe is the quickest 3 valve modular in Stock and on the right is the first S197 Mustang GT in NHRA Stock Eliminator, also with a 3 valve modular engine. Since this 2009 Mustang GT runs in I/SA, I believe that also makes it the newest model Ford in NHRA Stock in the "traditional" classes. Re: LIVE from Indy - D3 LODRS
8:00 update - a fine drizzle has begun to fall. Never mind - it's now bigger drops that I classify as rain. No question now that the car will stay in the trailer.
All that stayed home - you got it right so far and stop smiling. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...pskcu6yqkz.jpg |
Re: LIVE from Indy - D3 LODRS
Looks like the D3 coverage is up and running with an accurate shot of the wet track. D3TV is a great thing and on days like this you can run back to the Hotel and monitor what's happening at the track. Last year at the Columbus LODRS it was hot - so instead of waiting at the track I went back to the Hotel, got a shower and rested in comfort till it was time for R1.
Here's the link for D3TV Saturday coverage. https://youtu.be/I7azY7YVhBE http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...pshar3txmn.png |
Re: LIVE from Indy - D3 LODRS
9:00 am update from the tower - "We are on Hold and will be back around noon with a plan for the rest of Saturday and a look at Sunday".

Re: LIVE from Indy - D3 LODRS
I've left the track for the comfort of my Hotel room and some Netflix binge watching.
I've had a number of people ask how to post from the track. With a smart phone and a web connection it's easy. My Sprint phone service works well at just about any track except Norwalk. I upload the photos from my phone to a Photo Bucket App account ( also easy) and paste the link in with the text. The biggest challenge is working in the small area of the phone display and the miniature size text. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...pstwnnxxbm.jpg |
Re: LIVE from Indy - D3 LODRS
Accuweather shows periods where the rain will stop during the day. With the rain that has already fallen it will take some time to get the track ready.
http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...psrf30kcca.png http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...psjcubtsfy.png And your Live Reporter. Thanks Chris. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...psjwb6gxuj.jpg |

Re: LIVE from Indy - D3 LODRS
Noon update: We are done for Saturday. Stock and SS round 1 will be on Sunday at 9:00. Fields are set for all classes that have had 2 qualifying runs. There will be 1 more qualifying run for the Top classes and Comp. The plan is to get It all in tomorrow.
Jack, I'll back it down for the rest of the day......maybe just a few more photos to post. |
Re: LIVE from Indy - D3 LODRS
Mike thanks for the updates. Did they happen to say what time the qualifier runs would be for Comp , Top Sportman and Top Dragster? We might drove down from Michigan if the forecast looks promising.

Re: LIVE from Indy - D3 LODRS
Update : 10:40 am and half way thru SST and we have an oil down.
Drew Whelan broke a yoke, driveshaft and pump in the trans on his first run Friday morning. He and his Dad thrashed and got back together in time to make the clean up run that nite. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...pstpsrepwo.jpg I want to thank Bill Dyer for helping me this weekend at the starting line. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...pssnpirlg1.jpg Denny Hillman has been running this stick shift Camaro Convertible since I started racing in D3 ..... Which was a long time ago http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...psyjjfa2h7.jpg Mike McGinley drove the ex-Sam Hamod Firebird to Stock RU at the US Nationals several years ago. Sam bought this car new and it was immediately turned into a Stocker. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...pspzvkqq8m.jpg |
Re: LIVE from Indy - D3 LODRS
SS R1 is done. It's 1:15 and R1 of SC just finished. The TOP
Classes and Comp are up next for their second qualifying run. Stock is out for R2 after the Alcohol cars. It's cool to see that some SS cars have figured out you don't need a 14x32 To go fast. Both of the Running SS cars are on 9" tires. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...ps450ym3wo.jpg At the other end of the high buck toters and stackers are the Father and Son Campolito tow rig. These guys race with an open trailer and a Trailblazer SS tow vehicle. Eric qualified that cool Caprice Stocker on p14. Smart. http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...pshttnfq5z.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...psovujp47q.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e2...psxltzo08h.jpg |
