More than sorry to say we have lost Bill Pomponi
 

Bill Pomponi, racer ,owner/crew chief, father, grandfather, and supporter of sportsman racing and the All Star Racing Association has passed away unexpectedly. Bill and his son Bill were racing with us this past Sunday. Bill was an endeared member of our racing family and a close personal friend of myself and many. The arrangements are not yet finalized. I will post the info as soon as it is available.

Our sincerest condolences to the Pomponi family. It was as much a pleasure, for me, to get to meet Bill over the recent years and have a face to the name, as it was for my father to re-connect and share some memories from years past. May he rest in peace.

Truly sad news! Bill was always friendly and most pleasant to speak with. He is a great example of what drag racing is truly about- he spent his weekends racing and crewing with his son!

The services for Bill will be Tuesday starting at noon at the Hayes-Hulling & Carmon Funeral Home in Granby , CT . The details will be available in Bill's obituary which tentatively will be out tomorrow (Saturday).

I knew/met Bill way back from his days as a youngster...growing up in Brewster Heights,Brewster ,New York...he used to "tag along" (Dover Drag Strip) in the early days with a very good longtime friend of mine Harold "Tink" Schaefer...he (Tink)...one of the very sharpest knives in the drawer both as a drag racer & engineer I've ever known... young Bill always had the ever-ready smile...evident too from our first "meeting"...he was one brilliant "cat"...and "special" person...later...his military & vocational career evidence of that...a fine longtime drag racer as well...e-mailed back & forth with him six months or so ago...a truly fine person who will be missed by many...our prayers are with Billy jr,family...God Speed...Drake Viscome & family
