HP off / HP on ??

been thinking (dangerous) ....

how is it possible that one request for HP off was written and it was levied against (for) and ENTIRE motor family not just the individual combination...

therefore would it be unreasonable to expect as those FAMILY were levied HP penalties it would count towards the ENTIRE FAMILY that now is statistically a group per NHRA as a indicated by the aforementioned group reduction ?????

anyway can only get them hit as fast as i can .... got one at the SPORTS :)

captain jack

and thanks to Jimmy Harrison / Thomas Arnett / Deano for the #2 qualifer spot !!!!

Jack,
Congratulations for qualifying #2. That's a tough class you are in.

Jack, that run, 13.70, was really impressive!

Cheez Jack, the poor baxtids that are running that 75/302 combo are at 140 HP now! That's the same rating as my 230 inch straight six with a monojet!

Billy, 1975 Maverick fact. 122hp now 164hp. 1975 Mustang fact. 129hp. now 140hp. same motor. Maverick must be a slicker body? Kind like 2000 corvette Ls1 345hp and 382hp, 2000 Camaro & Firebird.Tom

Tom, It is a little more complicated than that. The longer wheelbase and more rear overhang of the Maverick allow it to pitch rotate better than the Mustang. This allows the Maverick to plant the tires better all the way down the track. Keeping in mind that we are only allowed 9 inch tires this is an important advantage. The addition of wheelie bars on the Maverick controls some of this rotation.
As a side note.. The Mustang(like the Chevy wagon) has MUCH better brakes.
I hope this clears up some of the confusion.

You just don't understand the whole situation. When you put engines in a Mustang, it becomes a whole different engine and must be considered separately. The '75 302/129hp engine in a Monarch or a Granada is 164, but 140 in a Mustang. The '76 302/133hp engine in a Monarch, Granada, Maverick or Comet is 138, but in a Mustang it's 133. See?!?

Re: HP off / HP on ??

And if you think one of those powerhouse 304 2 bbl AMC motors of the same mid-70's era being discussed here might be a good combo, which coincidentally uses the very same carburetor as the 302 Fords, NHRA says you have to go out and play with 180 factored HP. ????
That's *exactly* why I went for the 6 cyl on my AMX project.

Tom, Jack knew what combo I meant. What Jack meant in the original post was that a request was sent in for a certain 302/2V combo, I believe that the original request was for a Fairmont. Instead of just granting the request for the Fairmont 302/2V, NHRA gave the entire 302/2V family not just a 1-2-3% reduction, they gave the entire family back it's original NET rating.
The funny thing about this is that probably a dozen or so cars are being built or have been built and I think that it's great!
Now NHRA just has to do the same EXACT thing to a bunch of other obsolete combos!

I'd think it was great too if they was t/sa cars Billy :) LOL

I'm sending them to T as fast as I can !

And in legal terms by grouping them together for a HP reduction the group should receive HP increases too

Captain....
shame Indy wont count I could get another one :)

Jack, I feel your pain. But you've got to admit that interest has been created and cars are being built and THAT'S a good thing.
Now about that "legal terms" thing, I think that is called a precedence.

"cars are being built" - participation - more cars racing - "NHRA just has to do the same" All good things for the sport!

Very Interesting discussion..!

After hearing all the dirges about how Stock Eliminator is just a Bracket Race and it isn't this or not that..!
Why would anyone be dumb enough to build a Stocker.
ALL those RULES and so little appreciation.

Yet this conversation you all are having is what all the Stock Hating Naysayers are missing.

What other class would racers consider racing the boring unromantic odd ball car with strange engines and carburetors and exciting spine tingling sexy name names such as ... CYCLONE Fence !!

Hear in our community USA has a totally different meaning.
Stocker racers are SPECIAL no doubt.

Takes a lot of ambition, brain cells, reading rules, skill, no money, no Nitro, no huge blowers, no hipster headers. Yet build beautiful cars that can run 11's in the lower classes with just what the car came with.

The Naysayers just will never get it

Certainly that 164hp wheelie bar equipped Maverick would have a parachute??
